I've been contemplating this topic a lot lately. Partially due to having absolutely fuck all to do and a lot of discussion here about college enrolment. My question here is; which holds more value? Personally, I hold a lot of contempt for academia as I wasted a good 3 years of my life after being pigeonholed in high school to do to a degree. But then again, it's also partially my fault for not staking out the territory more and taking my time to figure out which path I want to take. I've also learned a lot more on the Internet and the sheer volume of information it holds than I ever have during my tenure at uni. That's not to say that I don't think academia has absolutely no merit in society. Obviously qualifications are required to evidence your competency levels and the capacity to fulfil a specialised role. But does society place too much emphasis on a college degree? Can a person become an educated and intelligent individual without having to enrol into tertiary education?

Is it the art? The language? The concepts being put forward? I seriously cannot comprehend the fascination behind this art form.
I have given most of the so called revered series and movies a fair viewing and I cannot tolerate any of them for the life of me. The characterisation comes off as alien to me, and a lot of the dialogue choices are just bizarre. Maybe there's a translation disconnect between Japanese and English or maybe I'm just straight up missing something.
The only one I can find somewhat approachable is Akira, but apparently it's entry level pleb filter to most fans, or so I've heard.

Rona boredom got me acting strange. Here's another movie bread.
S tier:
2014. Can't really think of a better year that defined the 2010s than this one. Birdman, Interstellar, Gone Girl, Whiplash, Grand Budapest. Even some of the formulated blockbusters had hella originality to them like Edge of Tomorrow and Winter Soldier (well, maybe not the latter but probably the best movie in the MCU). Absolute razor year.
Other kino mentions include Nightcrawler, The Raid 2, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Imitation Game, The Guest, and John Wick.
A tier:
2017. This year produced my all time favourite movie of the decade, BR2049, and also conceptualised a plethora of really technically astute films such as Dunkirk and Baby Driver. The only thing holding it back from S tier was the dreaded TLJ unfortunately. Also the new Apes movie was trash in comparison to its relatively strong predecessors.
Honourable mentions include Good Time, Call Me By Your Name, Get Out and Three Billboards.
B tier:
2015. A respectable year no doubt but not quite enough substance to reach those upper echelons. Mad Max, Sicario and the Revenant were great, but we also had to be subjected to mediocrity like Age of Ultron, Force Awakens and the new Bond movie which I never mustered the effort to finish.
Honourable mentions include The Martian, The Big Short, Hateful Eight and Creed.
C tier:
2013. The mixed bag year. While 12 Years a Slave and Gravity were landmarks in film craft (although, the latter hasn't aged as gracefully as the other admittedly), there really wasn't a lot of vigor to the year. Pacific Rim was fine, I think it's immensely overrated though, and I'd rather poke holes in my balls and watch them deflate for an hour and a half than have to go through World War Z again.
Honourable mentions include Inside Llewyn Davis, Prisoners, Wolf of Wall Street and Her.
D tier:
2016 and 2012. The meh years.
Yeah yeah, 2012 had Django and The Master, but honestly? There's nothing else that particularly stands out to me in these years.
Moderately honourable mentions include Argo and TDKR, and Moonlight and Arrival respectively.
Shit tier: 2011 and 2018
Genuinely can't even remember going to the theatre during these years except for Infinity War and the final Harry Potter.
EDIT: Hereditary was decent.
Have not included 2019 in the ranking as I feel it's too soon for me to accurately place it anywhere.

Who else want to unashamedly steal fantanos opinions 10. Iridescence - Brockhampton  Probably their weakest project they've come out with yet but by no means is this a bad album. Kicks off to a good start with tracks like New Orleans and Thug Life but ultimately gets bogged down with inconsistencies and tracks like Something About Him and Tape, then picks itself up again into a fantastic conclusion with San Marcos. 9. TA13OO - Denzel Curry  Great trap album with a myriad of talented guest artists like JPEGMAFIA and JID. If you're sick of the wannabe Migos artists in the trap game this is a record that bucks that trend. 8. ye - Kanye West  Memery aside, Kanye pretty much owned it this year in spite of his public spazzes. ye might not be MBDTF or Life of Pablo tier but it definitely reminds us that Kanye still has a musical presence that isn't going away any time soon. 7. You Won't Get What You Want - Daughters  друг 6. MGMT - Little Dark Age  Never thought I'd see the day were MGMT made my top 10 let alone a favourite album list. Incredibly solid electro pop album that knows what it needs to be and doesn't try to overexert itself with pretentiousness of their previous records. 5. Joy as an Act of Resistance - Idles  Sonically astounding punk album with tasty riffs, raw vocals and a theme that would make Verb cum in his pants. 4. Veteran - JPEGMAFIA  DAAAMN PEGGY 3. 2012 - 2017 - Against All Logic  Probably one of the greatest house records of the decade. Nicholas Jaar proving once again to be one of the most underrated artists in the genre. 2. Oxnard - Anderson Paak  Anderson Paak dropped one hell of a Soul Rap album this year, with features like Pusha T, Q Tip and Kendrick Lamar accentuating the glossy funk production even further. 1. KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS  FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Kid Cudi and Kanye flexing us all with probably the greatest musical comeback of the year, somehow managing to gel psychedelia, grunge and pop rap into a short but sweet 22 minute gem of a record.

I've always liked how, as a band, they've prioritised progressing their sound and avoiding sticking to the same musical formula, but honestly, I think that approach kind of backfired this time. The entire LP is just really inconsistent. Apart from a handful of really sonically awesome tracks the rest of the album just feels like a mish mash of idiosyncratic experimentation without having a clear and concurrent sound throughout the record. Honestly hesitant to give this anything above a 6/10 tbh.

 Anyone else watching? Pretty kino show with a lot of great period acting and atmospheric horror. It's a fictional rendition of the real life event of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus' expedition through the Northwest passage with a supernatural twist. The best I can compare it to is early GoT with elements of Deadwood, Black Sails and Rome. Highly recommended desu's.

It comes out tomorrow. KINO of the year potential? It's set in medieval Bohemia at the peak of the Holy Roman Empire, and the devs modelled most of the buildings, armour and factions on actual historical facts. It looks incredibly layered, and I've been needing a meaty RPG to sink my teeth into ever since The Witcher 3.

Anyone playing it?
I've only clocked in about two hours, and I've yet to even touch the army crafting facet, but I'm not wholly impressed with it thus far 2bh.
Graphics are pretty abysmal. Is it just me or was the first instalment vastly superior in this department? Looks like discount tier pre-gen.
Controls are somewhat clunky. I remember the original being a bit more watertight than this. Opening was pretty weak too. We just gonna completely forget that we fucked up Sauron's shit in Shadow of Mordor, no? Okay.
I realise these are nitpicky details, but I can't help but notice them, and first impressions go along way. I do however enjoy the in depth customisation and I really don't know why people threw a temper tantrum over the micro transactions fiasco. They're completely optional components to the game in which you're essentially paying to have less fun. It's not exactly game breaking.
Hoping it picks up when I get to the real meat of the game, but what I've seen so far doesn't look that promising.

Thought I'd share this seeing as how it isn't getting a whole lot of attention. The visuals are pretty top notch for a short film and you can never really go wrong with Sigourney Weaver. Blomkamp's kinda gone off the radar recently but it just goes to show how much talent this guy can display in a 20 minute YouTube video. Elysium and Chappie were kinda eh, but I think if he has a collaborative team to reel in some of his shoddy screenplays then he has the potential to produce top quality work.
