the same way everything becomes a meme

do you actually know the definition of meme?
nah man, he's not schooled in the science of memetics.

Don't tell me what I know and don't know, slut.
"an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture"

it makes perfect sense when you know the definition

One person starts saying it and another and another and another. That's how memes happen, they're like a virus.

I feel like everyone actually knows each other here to some extent which is not something that could really be said about b.old

That on it's own is a pretty interesting dynamic.
I think for a forum to be good there need to be a balance between 4chan and this site

total anonymity isn't all that great but neither is knowing everyone. B.net had a pretty good balance on that.
Um. The more like 4chan it becomes, the worse it actually is.
I think you're missing the point. This website is nothing like 4chan unless you're just basing that off people being unkind. And even then this website is leagues different than 4chan. The fact that everyone knows each other makes most of the insults non-malicious where as on 4chan no one knows eachother so they quite literally mean every insult they sling. The comparisons of this site and 4chan are pretty retarded actually because they're nothing alike other than "oh people are mean sometimes." I have news for you, that's just people being people.

The comparison I made was simply based on anonymity vs knowing everyone but thanks for making me go on this tangent.

hah two people i went to highschool with have been convicted of murder

this forum's "culture" is just ripping off of b.old's culture though

still got mine

the only people who dislike facebook are people with shitty friends or no friends at all
you seem like the last person that would judge people over something so trivial as their disposition towards a social media site

Perhaps it's just what I've seen, but joking aside women aren't exactly that unreasonable.

No moreso than blokes, you get the level headed masses and then the psychotic bitches who tarnish the entire other gender in the same way that blockheaded dolts make blokes seem like obtuse retards.
Do you even speak English?

Joking about suicide is never okay, and it is something I will not stand by and tolerate without a fight. Suicidal posts should be reported to the mods and approached carefully and appropriately. The fact that people ridicule others for being suicidal is outrageous. I don't understand how someone saying that they want to end their life can be considered funny, or fun to harass and taunt someone over.
who really cares that someone you don't even know on an internet forum dies?

people die, get over it

The Flood / Re: why do bike lanes exist?
« on: August 31, 2015, 06:33:14 PM »
Lol Naru because the obvious alternative to a lane for bikes is to make pedestrians and bikers share the sidewalk

can't think of anything that could go wrong there....

let me guess - you're for intersections over roundabouts, too
roundabouts are fucking retarded though
Are you 16? It's well-known that roundabouts do nothing but make traffic flow more smoothly.
yeah a well known fact to idiots

I thought the calling out rule was put into place because of Kinder
It was the Kinder, Comms, Noelle triumvirate
I remember Noelle having a few call out threads, but not in any negative manner. Kinder on the other hand was all about the to the death flame wars.
Yeah it was mainly to avoid the situation that shitted up the ProBoards forum

towards the end it was just non-stop calling each other out between those three

TIL if you wear shoes indoors you're autistic

k
its true tho. like, nigga what tard would wear Vans / nikes / etc indoors and bring in dirt from the outside world?
I walk on sidewalks, not grass

my shoes are rarely dirty
yeah cause sidewalks are totally clean

why don't you go outside and eat off of one?

but it would

also kill yourself

So to address the first issue, as LC said we did actually take action against people/challenger for doing the Beep Beep stuff. It wasn't immediate and it wasn't with Mjolnir levels of impact for a number of reasons which can be combed over another time when I'm not as tired if people would really like to go back over that again.

I think it should also be addressed as to the reason why it was pretty clear cut for a warning on the thread that preceded the one that preceded this one - 100 posts. Screaming at someone ''FUCKING LOL

This place won't ever be safe until YOU'RE gone, you fucking batshit sociopath ''

In response to a post that did not concern them/address them/provoke such a response whatsoever beyond whatever compelled elegiac to reply like that to challenger out of the blue. That's not exactly hard to look at the rules and go, 'yeah this isn't allowed'.

+++

To address the suicide stuff though, it's a tricky subject for a number of reasons. Primarily of all is the 'Kill Yourself' yamyam which muddies the water to an ungodly extent. Making a blanket ban on saying things like that is a step towards a hugbox in one way and a step towards decency in another.

What might be feasible is an addition to do with the more clear cut issues of it, such as telling someone who is suicidal over something to kill themselves. But such instances are rare and usually met with enough condemnation, the contrast here I imagine is that as goots sadly and rightly pointed out - the popularity of a member plays a role, or in this case the unpopularity of a certain member. Which isn't exactly a nice thing to state, but it plays a role in the community reaction to events.

In terms of moderation, which is what we can handle as opposed to manipulating the collective thoughts of a section of the  forum to be less judgemental of another user and therefore more sympathetic, it's not exactly clear cut even though it should be.

On a moral level it's obviously disgusting, regardless of the circumstances, but one of the things that is a recurring theme for rule enforcement is having to make enforceable/workable adjustments because otherwise ideals just get crushed into useless pulps.

So at the end of the ramble, if people have suggestions as to how we could implement a system to stop that kind of asshattery without it being nothing but a headache for consistent enforcement (regarding the jokes aspect) then I'm all ears <.<
it shouldn't be moderated. If someone is going to kill themselves they shouldn't be advertising it on a backwater forum. If they choose to do so they deserve whatever treatment they get.
Skipping the moderated part but I strongly disagree. If someone is in that state of mind, they deserve compassion and help not abuse. If they are talking about it on a forum, chances are they aren't able to talk about it IRL to a professional for whatever reason so simply going 'ayy lmao do it faggot' is pretty disgusting.

I'm undecided over moderating it really, I think it's probably better as an issue for people to react to it naturally and (hopefully) light some flak up at the asshole making fun of the other person <.<
then don't make a thread or post over it.

PMing someone is the much more logical solution if you really want to kill yourself.
