That's almost as bad as a /k/ meetup. And arguably less spergy.
Does /k/ actually do meetups?
Yes, they do bi-yearly giant meetups. They call it, "Nuggetfest." is it sad that I'd go to one if they were closer?

Because of all the taxes and regulations placed on the companies that make them
The right answer. They have to charge a bunch to compensate for all the government bullshit they have to go though.
It really pales in comparison to what the government puts aviation manufactures under though.
As it should. 90% of people who buy guns use them either to hunt, or to tuck under their pillow for safety and never actually use them.
Aviation manufacturers put thousands of lives at risk with every unit they make. It only makes sense that they should be under greater scrunity.
What if the FAA didn't exist? How many aircraft companies or airlines would be in operation with shit-tacular safety standards? Probably not many if any at all.
Remember, people tend to vote with wallets. I sure as shit would not get on a disreputable airline.
The FAA is pretty shitty when it comes to stifling innovation. They literally just fucked over companies who were producing 'drones' for the consumer market.
Come to think of it, I don't think there is an Alphabet soup agency I actually like. FAA shits on aviation innovation CIA are spoopy scary skelingtons (though SAD is pretty operator) FBI is pretty incompetent ATF is incredibly incompetent and shoots dogs IRS takes muh monies
Maybe the Secret Service? I mean, they deal with Counterfeit shit, and I like my money not being devalued. But at the same time, South American hookers...
There is a good side to the FAA though. Our ATP's have to have shitloads of hours before they can fly left seat, unlike some Asian nations....
Every agency does some good, well except maybe the BATFE. They can do only evil.

I believe it has to do with the fact that if you give your gun decent care, it will outlast you and your child's life.
My oldest Mosin was built in 1925 and still fires just right so yeah >.>
There's some 19th century breech lock that I don't know a whole lot about hanging on my grandfather's wall. I do know it's still fireable though.
Sharps? Is it a Sharps? How about a Sharps? Maybe a Sharps? I bet it's a Sharps. Is it a Sharps?
God, I want a 45-70 Sharps Carbine.
Too long to be a carbine I think. I do believe he's said it's a .50 though.
May or may not be some kind of trapdoor Springfield model.
Trapdoor was specifically 45-70.
Sharps made a rifle length as well as a carbine length in .52
Huh, didn't know that. Tell yeah what, man, I'll try and remember to find a picture for ya when I get home tonight.
I look forward to it. Turn of the century cartridge based rifles make my peepee hard.

Let me guess... you don't understand why people like firearms?
Yea.
Why do you like hockey?
I started playing it when I was 3 and have grown up watching it and playing it. It's a sport that I both enjoy watching and participating in. And best of all I'm not shooting a lethal weapon. :^)
And shooting a lethal weapons is bad how? Not like gun ranges have people tied up and you fire at them. Just like with every hobby, it's about enjoyment, making friends, developing a skill, and just having fun
While having weapons that could kill dozens of people in seconds at your fingertips. There's a difference between a hobby that you try to get an object in a net and a hobby where you could kill many people with any inclination to do so.
I would be surprised if you could kill dozens of people in seconds with a semi automatic rife.
With enough people lined up I'm sure it could be done.
"Excuse me, I intend to mass murder the lot of you. Can you all line up orderly so I can shoot you down like dominoes?"
Being in a town square. Bank Grocery store
You greatly over estimate shooter ability and the power of a chosen bullet. 5.56, the round everyone was panicked about, is a .22 caliber projectile that weighs about 55 grains. 5.56 is incredibly light. It's parent cartridge, .223 Remington is considered barely adequate for deer and is generally used for varmint hunting. Animals such as Prairie dogs, rabbits, and Coyotes. The reason the military adopted it was for it's ballistic properties in holding a reasonable trajectory at 300 yards as well as how light of a cartridge it is. Now in a perfect storm where a shooter has a bunch of people in easy shot, you still probably could not kill the dozens in seconds you claimed. Considering non-lethal wounds and misses, also considering that standard capacity magazines are 30 rounds, dozens killed without a reload would be difficult to your average sperglord mass murderer. This is all assuming of course that the people have not fled at the first sound of a gunshot, and there isn't anyone carrying their own in the crowd.

boom But that's probably because you'd probably hit the first target, rip apart your shoulder, then shoot down an orbiting satellite as you continue to fire upward. The Satellite then crashes into a major metropolitan city.

You probably shouldn't tell him that there is a huge gun culture in Canada, he may get scared or something.
I'm talking on a personal level.
What makes you think that someone who owns a gun is such a danger? I own several, but I've never shot anyone. I have a lot of friends who own more than me, and have never shot anyone. The vast majority of gun owners in American and Canada have never shot anyone.
So what is it? Do you believe that YOU would not be responsible enough to own a weapon so you project that believe of self irresponsibility on everyone? or Is it good old fashioned hoplophobia?
Why do you own something you've never used?
Who says I've never used it? I've killed bottles, paper, clay targets, steel plates, and lots of dirt by proxy. I've never used them on another person and god help me if I am in the situation where I have to. I'm content with target shooting and maybe hunting. But I know that if I ever need my gun it's there for me.

In other words, you're gunshy.
Honestly, I could easily kill more people at once with my car than with the Remington .44 I took hunting.
Maybe we should bring him to the states for a good old fashioned range day. He seems like one who can be easily turned to the fun side. That is, if your determination of gunshy is accurate.

Except no law-abiding and responsible gun owner goes out and kills people. There's millions of people like me and we are held to the highest standards of the law because we don't commit crimes; that's kind of why we can own guns in the first place. Alternatively, you have car-related deaths that number higher than gun deaths yet these people still are able to drink and still able to drive after a period
Hey I'm not saying that owning a gun is the worst thing in the world. I'm just saying I don't understand what drives a person to go out and purchase one. That makes zero sense to me.
Easy answer. Because we can. It's as simple as that.

I would do the one you get less opportunities to do
That would be the shooting range. I've not been since, god, September? I think last time I was there I shot trap. Range it is, then cleaning, maybe booze after that, then Arma if they are still playing.

They're equally fun god dammit. That's why I have the issue deciding.

I don't know how to spend my Saturday. Should I play Arma with my group, or should I spend a day at the rooty tooty point and shooty range?
What do you guys think?
I may be able to squeeze in both, but I'll be late for ArmA, especially after having to clean a nugget.
