The Flood / Re: How many of you would struggle to pay for unforseen costs?

Utah doesn't have liberals stealing your fruits of labor.

You're right. Taxes were easy, and jobs were plentiful. I'd be back right now if I could find a job willing to give me time to move back out there.

It's a mixed bag. When I was working, yeah I could cover costs for a bit. Shit happens, and if it gets really bad you could always borrow if you absolutely had to. That's what I did when I had to fix my old truck just after I moved to Utah. Had to cover 5,000 in repair so I took out credit till I could withdraw money from an insurance account to pay off the credit.

Right now when I am unemployed? Yeah, I'd be fucked through and through. Had I not sold my old truck I would be up shit creek right now. Unable to afford my truck payment, and unable to afford tags. I guess this whole time of being unemployed has been an "unexpected expense" in that I am at a net loss each month. Till I get a new job, be it here in California or out of state, I am going to really be in trouble.

There was a gas station out near Barstow where the regular fucking fuel was $4.74 a gallon.

Fuck this gay state man.

That's Barstow though. Want to see some real gouging? There's a gas station just off the 40 near Fenner on the way into Needless. It's on average 5.99 for Regular unleaded. Why? Because they know people who are scared shitless about the last 100 miles of nothing they drove will pay for it when their low fuel light comes on. If they had the common sense to fuel up in Barstow, Dagget, or Ludlow for god's sake; they wouldn't have the problem of being gouged by Pakistanis in the middle of nowhere.

It's about on par with the gas station in Pennamnint Springs.

I've been to some really fucked up places in California. I mean some really fucked up places. Like downtown Perris, Adelanto(City of Endless Possibilities), Salinas, Goffs. But there isn't a place in the state that makes me cackle as I am driving by like that gas station in Fenner. Why? Because it's an idiot trap. Ludlow is 50 miles away, and Needles is 50 miles away. A little foresight that you're on your last 50 miles of fuel would go a long way to preventing you from getting bent over by, and I quote, "GAS STATION." I mean, Arizona is RIGHT there, just go fill up at a Maverick in Mojave Valley. It's that easy.

Do you plan on getting a green card?

Seriously though, if you can find a decent job to pay for it, then by all means. LA sucks though, just a warning. it's a dirty, nasty city.

Good luck though, maybe after you get established and then citizenship you can move to a not shitty state. I lived very well in Utah, and I could have, if I really wanted to, bought a house making 12 dollars an hour.
Lol no I'm from Pennsylvania. Where I'm looking at in California is Torrance. Seems like it's a bit nicer than LA, plus the job market is better than what's here in this shithole

You made it sound like you were from Germany with the whole, "Germany is fucked."

Torrence is oil country. If you can get a decent job at a well, you'd make good money. Same with Bakersfield. If you can get a job in Oildale, you can work your way up to six figures if you're a good worker.

But it's still a shitty state to live.

sex offender registration?

srsly, what registration are you talking about? What is it for?

Quote
Even if I still had my old truck, that would have been 400 to renew.

The context was there, you just have to use your reading eyes.

So should I not move to California?

Why would you? Unless you're following a six figure job or have really, REALLY good connections; there's no point. California is hard if you're not making good money, then if you are you're being taxed out the ass between income to sales and gas. Want to have some fun? Look at rent prices in LA and the bay area. Even the hipsters are fed up paying for rent in San Fran, a lot of them are driving across the bridge from FUCKING Oakland.

And that's annually? What the fuck?
Indeed :^)

700 that I really don't have. Even if I still had my old truck, that would have been 400 to renew.

I fucking hate California.

What the fuck are you taking about

He's talking about that Mad Max / Fallout larp out in the middle of the desert where copious amounts of drugs are consumed and boobies may or may not get unwillingly touched.

Have you considered reinvigorating your faith in humanity by joining the Wasteland Lifestyle?

Charlie, I used to live in the High Desert. I invented the wasteland lifestyle.

You will find an even better one.

You got a PayPal fam? I can throw some buckeroos your way if you're actually struggling.

Nah, but thanks for the offer. I don't want to take handouts. Selling the truck bought me some time, but I doubt that I'll ever have one like it. Entirely too much sentimental value to ever be replaced.

« on: February 06, 2019, 03:35:13 PM »
I've been really hurting for money and struggling to find a job to make ends meet. So, I have to sell my old pickup truck. Assuming all goes right, today will be the last day I ever see it. It hurts to think about and I have no clue how I am going to fare when I wake up tomorrow and I don't see it anymore. This hurts worse than every breakup I've gone through. It's like losing an old friend more than anything.

How do you deal with these feels?

The Flood / I also nearly died
« on: February 04, 2019, 04:46:42 PM »
I really had to take a dump, but it was storming. Things were calming down so I decided that I had enough holding it. So I sat down to do my business in the process In the short time I was on the shitter there were three lighting strikes in close proximity. My lights flickered and the thunder roared. I nearly got struck by lightning through my loo.

It's a truly terrifying experience.

Yeah uh... 2019 me is basically 2009 me but with a lot more beard, fat, and scattered beer cans  and guns around the photo background

Are you me?
Are you also building a side folder ar to host one of brownells new ar180 things?

I would be if I had money and I didn't live in California where folding stocks are extra verbotten! Though I'd honestly prefer something a little closer to an old school AR-18 than Brownells AR-180.

The Flood / Re: any other 8-5 office workers here?
« on: January 22, 2019, 08:53:36 PM »
I worked in a little more sophisticated call center. Though we had a few shifts and I worked them all at some point I did do the typical 8-5. It got a little boring after a while. But thankfully I was rarely in the phone queues because I handled email based requests; I could bring in my gaming headset jam out to music. Since we were a satellite HQ (I was in Utah and our main HQ for my department was in Vegas,) I could also get away with watching Netflix or youtube on slow days.

On one hand the slow days were great. 8 hours of watching Kitchen Nightmares while working requests via email from customers or operations. Those days were also the worst in a sense they dragged on forever, and fewer actioned emails meant that much more work to hit quote and make bonus (Though I did considerably surpass quota and made a few hundred extra in bonus each month.

It was a good gig till we merged with another company and they took away our bonuses and replaced them with a single stock each quarter and a yearly evaluation that would lead to a raise. My first eval landed me a whole .36 cent raise. The stock was nice since it's a pretty expensive stock. It was just below 400 when I worked there and right now it's at 298 if you want to try and figure out who it was I worked for. Therein lies my problem with the stock. Sure, we all got it, but it's extremely volatile. One day it could be bitchin' stock and then the CEO says something that people take out of context and the stock price plummets. The bonus was based on how much work we put in and how much hustle we had.  Plus, even at 400 a share, it was the same as what I made with a bonus EACH MONTH, except the stock was quarterly because lolinsidertradeingisbad. There were a few months I took home 600 in bonus. Bought a couple guns with bonuses. Shit was cash.

I do kind of miss it though, even if most people in the office (in other departments) were fake as fuck. That is my experience with office drones, they're all mindless plastic automatons who talk about inane, nonsensical bullshit. There is always that one middle aged woman talking at EVERYONE who she thinks might listen about her engagement and trip to Italy. Offices, in my experience, are full of people who seek approval and admiration from others who seek that same approval and admiration. It's an endless circle jerk of, "look at me and all the money and social conscious I pretend to have."  Meanwhile, I came to work, put on metal, did my job, and went left when my time was up. Then I'd stop at the gunstore to bullshit with real living breathing interesting people for a minute or two, finger fuck a rifle or handgun, pick up a new PMAG or some ammo, then I would go home to shitpost on /k/. I admitedly did have a few buddies there who would hit the range with me or start department roast sessions. Our area was pretty laid back in that sense. No one really gave a fuck.

My advice to you. Avoid the fake people and the stereotypical office drone. Do you job, and get home to enjoy things that actually matter.
