The Flood / Anyone going to give the new Star Wars film a chance?
« on: December 02, 2014, 07:46:23 PM »
Despite that retarded lightsaber and Disney ditching the EU, there are still some redeeming factors with the film

[urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Awakens

Quote
Abrams directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan, co-writer of the original trilogy films The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi.

Quote
As creative consultant on the film, Lucas' involvement includes attending story meetings; he told Bloomberg Businessweek: "I mostly say, 'You can't do this. You can do that.' You know, 'The cars don't have wheels. They fly with antigravity.' There's a million little pieces. Or I can say, 'He doesn’t have the power to do that, or he has to do this.' I know all that stuff."

Quote
the film would rely on the employment of real locations and scale models over computer-generated imagery, in order to make the film aesthetically similar to the original Star Wars trilogy

Quote
Abrams will use little CGI and more practical, traditional special effects,

Fucking tell it how it is man. You fucking go

Quote
SAN DIEGO - As dozens of students blocked northbound I-5 at Nobel Drive as part of a protest Wednesday morning, thousands of irate commuters were left stranded and unable to get to work. At least one of those drivers was angry enough to push a protester and steal his bullhorn.

Tyree Landrum told 10News he was on his way to work at an area Ross store when he was caught in the standstill. He got out of his car, and in front of 10News cameras, he reached out and pushed one male protester towards the center-divide. The protester was chanting "no justice, no peace" into a bullhorn until Landrum wrestled it away from him to shout his own message.

"Hey, I feel you; we ain't got no justice either," Landrum announced.

Landrum told a 10News photographer, "I got to go to Ross right now, homie. If I don't get there, I'm going to get fired. I've got six f****** kids to feed, homie … m*****f****** get shot every f****** day. Deal with it the right way, not like this."

Many other drivers felt similarly incensed. In the crowd of drivers standing outside of their parked cars were health care workers trying to get to area hospitals. One woman in nursing scrubs screamed, "Arrest them!" at the protesters.

"We have doctors and nurses that have to save lives here," the woman told 10News.

It took a wave of California Highway Patrol and San Diego police officers about a half hour to arrive on scene, and drivers rejoiced when officers drove down the ramp.

One man grinned as he shouted at the protesters, "You're spending the night in jail! That's right, you're spending the night in jail tonight!"

Serious / Video of 12 year old shot (NSFW)
« on: November 27, 2014, 07:04:09 PM »
Released video of the kid that was shot in Ohio a couple days ago. Let me point out, after watching the video, of what I see. First off, you see the kid pointing the gun at a person walking by and seconds later, see him carrying the realistic looking gun in a threatening manner. Soon afterward he has it pointed randomly, probably against other people. The police arrive and, while difficult to see, he does in fact make a reach for his waistband where the realistic gun was and the police shot him, thinking it was a real gun

Now here's the fuck up on the police side, they were too damn close. They pulled up feet away from him and didn't place themselves and the cruiser in a distance. They also had no cover to hide behind in the case of the gun was real and the kid started firing

But despite this, I have to say the shooting is still very much justifiable

Serious / OPEC decides against production cut
« on: November 27, 2014, 06:03:52 PM »
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/markets/2014/11/27/opec-vienna-meeting/19570473/

Quote
IENNA — Crude prices plunged Thursday after the powerful Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said it wouldn't cut production levels to stem the collapse in oil prices that have fallen 40% since June.

Saudi Arabia's oil minister Ali Al-Naimi delivered the news as he left a nearly five-hour meeting of the cartel's 12 oil ministers here.

Benchmark crude oil prices plummeted in London following the meeting, with Brent crude sinking 6.2% to $69.11 a barrel. In June, prices were as high as $115 a barrel. Oil prices are at their lowest levels since September 2010, in part due to oversupply, lower demand and a boom in North American production.

Thursday's collapse — which comes amid an apparent split within OPEC about whether to trim output — could lead to further price cuts at the pump, where U.S. consumers now pay an average $2.80 a gallon — down about 49 cents a gallon from year-ago levels.

Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for the Oil Price Information Service, said without a substantial cut to mollify selling pressure, crude prices are likely to continue falling.

"There is simply too much crude, given likely demand patterns, if the cartel doesn't cut back,'' Kloza said.

But Abdalla Salem el-Badri, OPEC's Libyan-born secretary general, brushed aside concerns Thursday about too much oil on the market leading to declining prices. He said OPEC was looking for a fair price and does not target a maximum or minimum price.

"We are not tying to send signals to anybody," el-Badri said. "We should not rush or panic, we have to wait for the market to settle. The decline in prices that we have seen does not reflect fundamentals."

OPEC re-committed to a production target of 30 million barrels a day.

"It was anti-climatic and expected," said Jamie Webster, an energy analyst at IHS, a consultancy. "The concern I have next is that (OPEC) is just not going to go below 30 million barrels, ever. If that's the case we could be in for a really wild ride over the next few months. I am very surprised that they didn't have any discussion about having another meeting before June next year."

Webster said that the communique issued Thursday by OPEC was the exact same one they issued a year ago when oil prices were $25 higher.

This is fantastic. An organization that was meant to keep prices in their favor are loosing now

Serious / "Police are too damn trigger happy"
« on: November 24, 2014, 07:22:17 PM »
Every few days I manage to come across a person or group of people discuss that too many cops are trigger happy and far too many people are killed by police annually. What perpetrates this conception is in great part of not only the 24/7 newsertainment, including the likes of FOX, CNN, and MSNBC, but the extreme lack of fact-checking to all of these news stories. Upon a quick 30 second Google search, one can bring up the following sources and facts that shoot-down what people think

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/persons-arrested/persons-arrested

In 2012, a grand total of 12,196,959 people were placed into custody by law enforcement all over the United States, or 3,888.2 arrests per 100,000 citizens. That's a lot, huh? But that's an entire different issue. So now how many of these arrests turn deadly?

1,000,000? No
500,000? No
10,000? Still not close

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_14_justifiable_homicide_by_weapon_law_enforcement_2008-2012.xls
How does this sound to everybody? 400. 400 is the number of individuals killed by police officers using deadly force

There's some food for thought

Jennifer Gable, an Idaho customer service coordinator for Wells Fargo, died suddenly Oct. 9 on the job at age 32. An aneurysm, according to stunned friends.

Just as shocking, they say, when they went to Gable’s funeral in Twin Falls, Idaho, and saw her in an open casket — hair cut short, dressed in a suit and presented as a man.

“I am disgusted,” Stacy Dee Hudson posted on Facebook. “A great and dear friend’s mom went to the funeral today. It was not closed casket. They cut her hair, suit on. How can they bury her as geoff when she legally changed her name. So very sad. Jen you will be missed and people who know you know that you are at peace.”

Gable was transgender, born Geoffrey, but living the past few years as Jennifer.

That wasn’t mentioned in her paid online obituary:

Geoffrey Charles Gable, 32, Boise, passed away suddenly on October 9, 2014 while at his job at Wells Fargo Bank.

He was born in Twin Falls on January 27, 1982 to Anthony Clark Gable and Lori Ann Walton.

Geoff and his brother, Steven, were raised from toddlers by their maternal grandparents, George and Joan Walton.

He attended Morningside Elementary School, O’Leary Junior High and graduated from Twin Falls High School in the year 2000.

He was married to Ann Arthurs in 2005 in Hawaii. They were later divorced.

Geoff grew up as a member of the Twin Falls First Christian Church, where he was baptized in 1996.

“No mention of the woman she knew she was and had lived as for several years. Just erosion of her identity and an old photograph of how the father perceived her to be,” said Meghan Stabler, a board member of Human Rights Campaign and member of HRC’s National Business Council.

“I only knew her online. She reached out to me a couple of years ago when she was in transition,” Stabler told the Miami Herald. “The usual: What do I need to worry about at work? Am I going to be OK? Is life going to be better? Can you assure me everything is going to be OK?”

Stabler says Gable’s death “stresses the importance of having a will.”

“She had done what she needed to do legally to be seen as her authentic self. Her father erased her identity either though ignorance or arrogance,” Stabler said. “But who knows what the parent was going through?”

Mike Parke of Magic Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Twin Falls said Gable’s death certificate listed her as male.

“The death certificate says Geoffrey AKA Jennifer Gable,” Parke said Friday night. “The last few years she lived as Jennifer. They buried him as Geoff. A tormented situation for all those involved.”

Have another, and final, history paper to write and this time I can choose anything from what we have studied since the paleolithic era all the way to the Renaissance. Not entirely sure what to pick; no real interesting wars or political figures to write a general biography on, although Saladin or a Roman Emperor is actually not that bad of a choice

Serious / "I have tax problems because people hate Obama
« on: November 23, 2014, 08:00:47 AM »
http://hotair.com/archives/2014/11/19/al-sharpton-i-have-tax-problems-because-people-hate-obama-or-trayvon-martin-or-something-like-that/

or Trayvon Martin or something like that"

Quote
Professional racial agitator Al Sharpton responded to Tuesday’s NY Times piece revealing that both Sharpton and his charity National Action Network was increasingly delinquent in paying taxes to NY State and vendors who performed services. According to the MSNBC host and architect of racial discord, the progressive NY Times published the story because of politically motivated hostility toward Bill de Blasio and Barack Obama:

I think it’s political, he said. A lot of people don’t like the fact that President Obama’s the president. A lot of people do not like the fact that Bill de Blasio won for mayor. And they certainly don’t like that I’m still here, and I ain’t going nowhere.

Later on he added:

Every time there’s a Sean Bell or a Ferguson or a Trayvon Martin, we go through my taxes. It’s the same agreement, y’all.

The New York Times piece reported:

Today, Mr. Sharpton still faces personal federal tax liens of more than $3 million, and state tax liens of $777,657, according to records. Raw Talent and Revals Communications owe another $717,329 on state and federal tax liens.

But according to state officials, his balance on the state liens is actually $220,000 greater now than when they were first filed during the years 2008 through 2010. A spokesman for the State Department of Taxation and Finance said state law did not allow him to provide any further details.

Sharpton claims the story is false:

In a 30-minute press conference at his Harlem office which ended with him abruptly walking out on a roomful of reporters, Sharpton said, “The National Action Network’s tax debt as of December of 2013 was a little over $400,000. …On that, they want $400,000 in penalties. The board’s position at our national convention was that why should we have to pay 100 percent if we can knock it down. But we continued to pay the monthly installment while we did.”

Asked about the combined amount in taxes that he and his organization owed—$4.5, million according to the Times— Sharpton said, “How could I owe what you originally owed in 2008. Then that would have meant we paid none of the installments and that we didn’t put up the $1 million that everybody reported.”

However, Sharpton did not give the outstanding balance personally owed by him and his for-profit companies –Raw Talent and Revals Communications. Rather, he focused his remarks on how much money his nonprofit group, the National Action Network, has paid back. He also talked about paying back his federal taxes. The Times story agrees that he has been paying down his debt to the IRS,  but his state tax and the Action Network’s payroll tax debt however has been growing.

Records reviewed by The New York Times show more than $4.5 million in current state and federal tax liens against him and his for-profit businesses. And though he said in recent interviews that he was paying both down, his balance with the state, at least, has actually grown in recent years. His National Action Network appears to have been sustained for years by not paying federal payroll taxes on its employees.

Sharpton also disputed the claim in the NY Times story that he leaned on the generosity of friends and sometimes even his charity, intermingling its finances with his own to cover his daughters’ private school tuition.  According to Sharpton he only borrowed money from the National Action Network against his salary to help pay off his daughter’s school.

It is difficult to evaluate whether Sharpton or the NY Times is telling the truth.  Sharpton didn’t really address the newspaper’s charges —  he answered different questions. And it is hard to believe that the bible of the progressive movement, the NY Times, is attacking Al Sharpton for political reasons.

If the story does turn out to be false, it would be a wonderful demonstration of karma. Despite the fact that he’s a Baptist minister, Al Sharpton regularly breaks the ninth commandment, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” He has incited riots; he has falsely accused people of crimes, made disparaging remarks about people without any justification.

Sadly Sharpton will probably miss this lesson as he has missed so many others.

Just throw his ass in prison already

Winnie the Pooh has been banned from a Polish playground because of his “dubious sexuality” and “inappropriate” dress.

The much-loved animated bear was suggested at a local council meeting to decide which famous character should become the face of the play area in the small town of Tuszyn.

But the idea soon sparked outrage among more conservative members, with one councillor even denouncing poor Pooh as a “hermaphrodite”.

“The problem with that bear is it doesn’t have a complete wardrobe,” said Ryszard Cichy during the discussion.

“It is half naked which is wholly inappropriate for children. [Poland’s fictional bear] is dressed from head to toe, unlike Pooh who is only dressed from the waist up.”

The meeting of officials was sneakily recorded a councillor and leaked to local press, according to the Croatian Times.

One unnamed councillor can be heard discussing Pooh’s sexuality, arguing that “it doesn’t wear underpants because it doesn’t have a sex” before another, Hanna Jachimska starts criticising Winnie the Pooh author AA Milne.

“This is very disturbing but can you imagine! The author was over 60 and cut [Pooh’s] testicles off with a razor blade because he had a problem with his identity,” she said.

It's sad that we have become such a consumerist nation that businesses decide to stay open for 2-3 days straight and people lineup outside of stores weeks ahead before Black Friday. I seriously dislike that craze commotion when having to go to stores these days, but it's also nice to get really great deals on things so I'm always stuck on deciding if I should spend or stay home
