If this is your first experience with EG, and you didn't read the book, I truly pity you. Does how you win matter? Or is it simply a case of realpolitik, and winning is the only end. Winning is what matters in war. The means of doing so are irrelevant, unless of course people uninvolved are suffering for it. I must admit I hesitate at the idea of genocide, even in the preservation of the human species. Is such an act justifiable? "Every alternative is preferable," to quote Doctor Church. If it's a battle in which one side will exterminate the other, methods lose meaning. The only thing that matters is that the other side is the one that's gone in the end and not yours. Spoiler Ender plays what he believes is a simulation, but is actually the real battle. He ends up completely destroying the homeworld of the Formics - a race of insectoid aliens associated via hive-mind - and becoming depressed at his actions.
The novel explains this much better and leaves more of an impact, in my opinion.

Part of the reason what made The Emperor such a good villain was his veil of anonymity. It was bad enough when the prequels came along and gave us an identity, now pretty much everything's a given with him.
I wouldn't really have a problem with it if they had picked something slightly less ridiculous. I mean, a Roman esque name would've been cool, but Sheev? Seriously? That's what they went for?
Good villain? He's one of the tropiest old bag of tropes to ever represent evil on the big screen.
When Star Wars first came out Sideous and Vader were considered the definition of evil and badass. True, by today's standards they're cookie-cutter villains, but that's only because there's been so many copies of them in today's entertainment industry.
