The difference is, you aren't able to fully block out somebody in real life. This, however, is a forum. It isn't like real life, where you're forced to react to everything and everyone that addresses you. You have the luxury of ignoring something you don't care about. Reading a post, hitting the reply button, specifically writing that you don't care, and posting it means you saw what they said, had an internal reaction, and responded based on that internal reaction. In other words, you cared about what they wrote.
