Gaming / Re: friendly reminder that realism=/=quality gameplay

Well when you put "suddenly" into the equation that's when it becomes impossible.

Watch the video. It details how 60% of our diseases originate from domesticated animals, and how it's possible for an infection to travel along a particular food chain. Viruses mutate to accommodate their hosts mang.

Yeah, they do, but it isn't making it any more plausible for a fungus that, as of now, targets the brains and bodies of ants to do the same to humans. It'd take quite a while for them to go from infecting ants to, say, infecting rodents, to larger animals, and so on, all the way to humans. So no, the concept itself is still not realistic. At least, not in the time frame we're given in the story.

You're right about one thing, that if you take out the zombies the story is realistic, but you could say the same about pretty much anything. Take out the Conduits in inFamous, and the story is realistic. Take out the talking animals and robots in Sonic the Hedgehog, and story is realistic. Take out the unrealistic elements, and the story is realistic.

What is with these Asian games having chronology issues?

Seriously. Metal Gear Solid has the same issue as Zelda (apparently). MGS3 takes place before 1, but came out after 2. 4 came out years later but takes placr after 2. PW and TPP (the two latest MGS titles) take place after 3 but before MG1.

3 is a prequel because Kojima needed to tide the fans over while he worked out all the plot issues in 4.

Hm?
realistic games

Cordyceps are a real thing you know.

The idea of them doing the same to humans what they do to ants is laughable, however. Certain diseases and parasites have some influence over human behavior, but not enough to create zombies.
YouTube

Plausible? No.

Possible? Yes. The idea of a viral pathogen jumping from species to species is not unheard of.

Anything is 'possible' when you get down to it.

The idea of a viral pathogen that specifically targets ants suddenly being able to infect a far more complex human brain is an interesting one, but I'm not about to pretend it's even semi-realistic.

Gaming / Re: Thel 'Vadam vs Garrus Vakarian

Thel is faster, stronger, with better shielding and possibly training.

Unless Garrus got him in a very long corridor with no movement room, Thel wins hands down.
Does he really have better shields though? IIRC the weapons in Mass Effect work in a similar manner to the mass arrays, effectively making them portable MAC guns. Those would punch through sangheili shields with ease, wouldn't they?

Oh yes they would. Though Thel's sword would cut through Garrus just as easily.
Only if Garrus would even let him get that close.

The universe is omnipotent, in fact.
False. Omnipotence necessitates agency.
The universe could throw a black hole at us for shits and giggles.

I sometimes do that.

I have an eternal and unconditional love for the Space Wolves, but I also really, really like how the tyranids form troops without digestive systems, because they know they won't live long enough to eat anything.

Nope, Blood Angles all the way.

It'd likely end in a sort of draw, where every time one side gets some sort of advantage the other adapts to it.

Until the actual tyranid fleets get there, anyway. Then it's a godstomp.

The Arbiter wins, no question.

Garrus is a cool guy, one of the best squadmates in ME, but can't take on The Arbiter.

Arby's tech, well Halo tech in general is just too advanced compared to Mass Effect.

Yeah, Mass Effect tech really is shit tier.

Oh really?

*Nice energy sword you have there. Overload.
Mass Effect is a pretty weak Universe in comparison to most.

In space, oh yes. On ground, not so much.

What are their loadouts? Does Garrus get a sniper-type weapon? Does Thel get his sword?

I can't see Garrus winning at all in close combat, but if he has a sniper he might be able to pull off a win. Unless Thel gets close enough. Then Garrus is fucked.
Its any situation really. Dont forget Thel has a Carbine too, he's not limited to close combat with a sword.

Yeah, but he's not really a marksman type guy. Not saying he's inaccurate mind you, just that Garrus is a crack shot whereas Thel is more of a close-up fighter. Even in mid-range I can see Garrus doming him, but he'd get taken apart if Thel somehow gets close.

There's this one that not many people have heard of. It's about these two groups of soldiers that fight it out in a box canyon, except sometimes they leave the canyon, and it's really wacky and slapstick, except when it isn't. Then there's this one story arc where it turns out there's this supersoldier hunting down another supersoldier, and it's really cool because we get to see things get serious, but it's still funny in its own way.

I think it's called Green vs Brown, or something like that. It's pretty obscure.
