What? No! How? What happened?
He was sent around to flank some Innies, and got captured in the process. He was being held hostage in order to get the rest of Alpha-9 to surrender. Instead, Buck ordered Mickey and Dutch to sneak around and get into position to attack. When he executed the maneuver, Mickey hesitated, and the Rookie was shot in the head as a result.
FUCK YOU MICKEY FUCK MICKEY FUCK YOU MICKEY FUCK YOU MICKEY FUCK YOU MICKEY FUCK YOU MICKEY AND FUCK THE FAGGOT THAT WROTE THE BOOK
Death to 343i, down with Forbeck, etc. etc.
Mickey just didn't want to kill humans. Instead of shooting the chick who had the Rookie hostage, he shouted at her to stop.
>spends years killing aliens with no problem >hesitates to kill one human Just give up, Mickey.

Even if this is true we didn't loose anything of value. This guy is probably the most or one of the most bland playable character created.
But we did tight something of value. Besides, he wasn't supposed to be a character so much as he was a means of piecing the story together.

I am so confused. Is this canon? If so, from what?
Its from the novel "New Blood", and yes, it's canon. Unfortunately.

Book was great IMO. Rookie decision served its purpose in the story but nullifies something great about ODST. That being said, pretty much everything else about it was great. Dialogue + character interactions/motivations in particular seem like something Staten himself would've written for ODST.
[Though this is from a quick skim]
What does the Rookie's death take away from ODST?
He worked better as a plot vehicle than as an actual character that does stuff in the story.

People bitch about 343i not explaining the Covenant in Halo 4 but Bungie did the exact same thing in Halo: CE and didn't explain their motivations until 2-3 years after.
It was the first game in the series and released during the time period where nobody gave a shit why they had to shoot the aliens, only that they had to.
By the seventh game in the series, we should know who the bad guys are, especially if they're just the old bad guys with a slightly different motive.
Just because people apparently didn't care (which obviously isn't entirely true) doesn't excuse no explanation.
The only reason that anybody bothers to point at Halo 1 and say 'yeah but Bungie didn't give a reason either' is to try to excuse Halo 4 doing the same. Except Halo 1 didn't have to give a reason, given the Covenant were less of a story-based enemy and more of an obstacle for the player to fight through to get to the real antagonist, the Flood. They kick off the game by showing up and wrecking shit, then act as a placeholder bad guy used to keep the player actually playing until the real story begins. (That, and storytelling in games wasn't up to today's standards anyhow). Halo 4, however, already has the Covenant as an ingrained staple to the plot; why they're attacking, especially after they had a ceasefire with the UNSC, is rather important this late in the story. They're more than just a placeholder enemy until the Didact and his goons show up at this point, so 343 should be expected to tell us why they're doing what they're doing.

It's funny how The Flood seems to actually agree on something.
I have a theory that you should have studied better since your success depended on a single point.
I have a theory that you should post your boobs
So that means you'll do it?
YOU CAN'T EDIT YOUR POST YOU CHEATER
She can when she edits it to a JoJo picture.

Seriously though, I took my both my tests half-asleep, did absolutely no studying beforehand, and still passed them easily. Driving is one of the most basic concepts I've ever learned. Are the tests in the UK more difficult or something?

And Chief too, since he had development throughout Halo 4.
It says a lot about both Bungie's writing skill and the fanbase at large that finally giving a character any personality at all other than 'tacit badass' is considered serious character development.
When you're at the bottom the only way is up
True. I just find it odd that his character development in Halo 4 is played up so much when he was given such a meager amount of it. He essentially went from being a camera that interacts with the story to the framework of a character. Though, the Rookie was a good example of the former that was done well. 'Was' being the key word.

WHO KILLED HIM?
Captain Ingridson, a rebel leader.
A fucking Innie killed an ODST? Fuck Halo
Why does it matter which faction she was from and which outfit he's a part of?

They all look bloody terrible.
I'm glad they're returning the series to its roots as a fantasy story (with robots) that it never should have left.

One of the very few genuinely interesting Halo characters...and they just threw him away.
Yep, that's why Halo ended with 3. To prevent shit like this from happening.

Gotham City was always supposed to feel timeless, but closer to the '30s and '40s than anything else.

I was expecting him to have a transformation like Zarbon and Cooler. When they go stronger they transform into some type of form. Zarbon looked more bulky and Cooler has a new form. A transformation would go perfectly with Frieza since he was based around it. This SSJ wannabe thing of his is just lazy.
Mainly because that's supposed to be his true form. He was the opposite of Zarbon and Coola in that his transformations were supposed to limit him instead of make him stronger. When he transforms, he's shedding another restriction until we get to his sleek, plain fourth form/technically first form.

This guy can and will fuck your day.
But that boss is super easy.
...if you have the precision of a machine.
Not even man. My 10 year old self was able to beat him no problem.
My ten-year-old self was able to die repeatedly then finally beat him after developing lightning-fast reflexes. Then wonder why the final boss was basically a proto-QTE and so much easier. But really, I've played through all three Souls games and most of the others listed in this thread, and not one of them ever gave me as much trouble as the fucking BioLizard. That's the go-to boss for when I think of annoyingly difficult battles.

They just dipped him in gold paint.
Talk about disappointing.
I can already tell that movies going to be a disappointing. Frieza as soon as getting revived and told of Goku beating Majin buu scoffs. He says he can beat him with 4 months training since he was so strong naturally without training, cuz dat plot potential. Screen shots show the z-fighters struggling with frieza's minion's, somehow Roshi fights, Gohan looks like a gay jogger lacking a gucci hip bag, Goku will no longer transform due to retaining god strength in base, etc. This plot is worse than some random fan fiction.
Everything after Freeza's first defeat was worse than some random fanfiction.

Or that he claims for the 100th time that it's the last MGS title he'll work on.
I hear it's rumored that Venom Snake might be Punished Snake in disguise. Don't tell anyone though.
Also, I'd be both amused and furious if Kojima's special message was that he was cancelling the game.
To be fair, he really does want to end the series. He's basically getting dragged along when all he wants to do is work on something else now.
He's a perfectionist. He doesn't want to leave MGS behind until he creates the perfect game.
Not to mention, he has big plans for Big Boss regarding possible remakes and retcons where Big Boss is the main character in MGS 1 2 and 3.
...How would he be the main character in 1 and 2? He's dead at the time (kind of). It'd take some very creative writing to plausibly make him a participant in those games.
