As if I needed confirmation for that.

The Berserk films. You didn't specify live action.
I've heard Berserk is fucking nuts though.
That's what makes it good.

Spoiler

The triumphant return of Rape Horse!

Suoermant is such an asshole

That's just the times where he's outright murdered someone (and that's not even all of them). He was constantly pulling one dick move after another back in the Silver Age and even today can't help himself from time to time.

That's my point. Players shouldn't be John because they aren't.

That's nice, but irrelevant. Some like the idea that they are the Master Chief. That was the original intent, and it's hardly idiotic to want to go back to that type of storytelling. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others don't.

Besides, it's not like he's losing much characterization if they did.

Quote
If you want the player is the character add customisation and don't make a background story for them a la Noble Six, the most boring protagonist in any Halo to date.

Bashing Noble Six for being a boring protagonist is like bashing an Elder Scrolls protagonist for being boring. They're only as interesting as you make them. Get more creative, if you didn't like him/her.

What worries me is that there isn't going to be any ODSTs left in future Halo games. Everybody just seems to turn into a Spartan IV at this point.
That's not true at all.

My question is, why isn't becoming a Spartan-IV mandatory for all UNSC recruits? There's no reason not to, if they're so easily mass-produced.

She was never 'alive' to begin with.

I take it you missed the entire point of her characterization in the canon part of Halo's story? Y'know, where she clearly had her own thoughts and emotions, her own personality, she could even feel pain when the Gravemind showed it to her, she could form empathic connections with others and have those connections manipulated...

Now, if you mean she was never organic, yeah, that's obviously true. But she was definitely presented as being 'alive' in every sense that matters.

I can say, with absolutely no racial prejudice or hateful intent, that that nigger is big.
He's normal sized and maybe even lanky for black standards.

Clearly you don't know the size of black people as well as Kojima and I do. Do you see that giant? He's practically Godzilla next to Kojima. That'd put him at, like, 5'3", at least. What a colossus.

You've seen the backlash from idiots who want John to be a silent protagonist.

Nobody wants him to be entirely silent. Just silent in-game. Having him speak his shiny ass off ruins the effect of the player being in the game and doing all those badass things (and distracts from gameplay in general).

Well, I don't know if God exists. Maybe there isn't a God, or maybe there is. Maybe there are many gods. Or maybe there aren't.

Hard to say. I can't see how anyone could dispute such a non-decision. *Sits back and smokes a classy pipe*

Our species, as relatively "modern" Humans

A small part of my soul rots away every time I see someone capitalize the name of a species.

Then buck up and stop being a fucking panzy ass. If your soul goes down the shitter from that then I'd hate to say what'll happen bigger stuff shows up. Something a little heavier on the soul.

You're beyond obsolete and useless pathetic human.

You NEVER let me have fun on here. :/

Also fuck you.

No. Fuck you. I'm being playful here, the fact that you took that seriously shows that you have a fucking problem. -_-
I'm the one with the problem? Well cool, now I know for sure that you're joking.

Get lost.

I don't need someone like you to tell me my own thread is cancer. You ALWAYS reply with something negative in my threads. I cannot fucking stand it when you do that. It's like you WANT me to get mad at you. -_-

I think you're just jealous that this got 9 fucking pages. I made this thread for intelligent discussion, but it seems people here aren't intelligent enough for it. This includes you. Instead of taking your time to read the OP, you choose to be a dick.

But I thought it was a troll thread. Which is it, Obama?

I didn't even have to try. You morns trolled yourselves here.

First off pfffffffffffffHEHEHEHEH.

And, er, sorry Deci, but they're absolutely right when they say humanity's niche is its ability to make tool. It's how we even out (and more so) the physical playing field with other predators.

But think about it. What if we didn't have this ability to create tools? How would you expect the human race to survive let alone adapt?

But we do, so that's irrelevant. It's like asking what would have happened if a bull didn't have horns, or if a tiger didn't have claws. They specifically evolved to have them, just as we specifically evolved to be intelligent enough to know that using a weapon is more effective in killing something than using our laughably underdeveloped muscles and teeth.

...Because reproduction is the point of life?
Not really. There is no point to life except the subjective meanings we give it.

That...is a debate I've done before and have no inclination to get into again. I shouldn't have brought that up.

And we could still reproduce, most likely, just with less...squishiness.
Unless there's some way they can get a child's consent to be born, I'm not an advocate for reproduction. Especially when immortality makes it redundant.

Oh, you ascribe to Verby's line of thinking. I'm sorry, but that really is disappointing.

Fact is, there's literally nothing there before a child is born. No thought, no emotion, nothing. You're asking for nothing to give its consent. I'd describe it as being like asking an inanimate object for consent before you do something with it, but it's less than that. It's less than asking some plastic and circuitry for consent before building it into a computer. It's less than asking the chair you're sitting in for consent before sitting in it. It's less than asking a lightswitch for consent before you flip it.

If there was something to ask for consent before you do something to it, of course I would. But there isn't. The child-to-be does not exist before the egg gets fertilized and starts multiplying into a full human being. Something that does not exist cannot have rights or freedom of choice, because it does not exist.
this is why i asked you not to do this too yourself

Oh.

Damn.

I should have listened.

Well, he doesn't own anti-natalism :P

I hope this doesn't interfere with anything we've established previously about our relationship.

As long as you're not as militant about it as he is, I don't see why it would. I just can't understand how anyone could think of reproduction as an immoral act. It's what all living things do, whether it's sexual or divisional.

Quote
That's my point. Because you can't ask nothing for it's consent, you should do it.

Something that does not exist cannot have conflicting thoughts or hopes. An egg cannot think 'y'know, it'd really fucking suck if I was fertilized right now'. There's no moral issue here; the egg specifically exists to be fertilized by a sperm. That's the reason we have our standard-issue genitalia: so we can reproduce. That's why I've always thought of it as the overarching goal of all living things - to create more of us.

And if the egg is not fertilized, it dies. That's it. It did not complete its goal, so it died. If you ask me, the moral thing to do would be to let it carry out its intended purpose. After all, both sets of cells certainly consent to it, given they do literally nothing else.

It will eventually exist. You are still condemning the child to a life it could potentially not want, which makes it immoral.

Except the child didn't want anything. It didn't exist until it was born. If circumstances after birth cause it to hate life, it can correct that later if it feels like it (though I personally consider suicide among the weakest, most spineless acts a human being can commit).

"Obsoletion" implies there is something to replace us that is more efficient or superior to us as we are.

Although I would enjoy knowing that the human race will come to an end soon, I disagree with your assessment.

The instant we can start uploading minds into robot bodies, the age of puny organics is at an end.

And on the day we can make that happen, Mr. Psychologist's trousers will be soaked.

I'm all for it if that means we don't have to reproduce anymore.

If we're immortal within the confines of our mechanical being, what use for offspring to we have?

...Because reproduction is the point of life? The one basic task we're born in order to accomplish? And we could still reproduce, most likely, just with less...squishiness. We're even working on the technology to feel through prosthetic limbs, though I'd imagine it'd be much more complex to enable sensations through a fully metal body.
pls, don't do this too yourself

Don't you enjoy my talk of robot sex? I know I do.
