The irony!no, kid The irony being that you are an idiot, and yet you attempt to call me an idiot. This is a reversal of the expected - that is, it is ironic - because one who is an idiot does not typically call another an idiot, but is instead typically called an idiot. You fucking idiot. 5617

The Flood / Re: Describe your daydreams.......« on: March 10, 2015, 06:29:25 PM »
One thought I've had stuck in my head since I rewatched Man of Steel a few months back is, assuming somebody with superpowers showed up in real life, what would they really do with them? I can't help but think up little scenarios of what a real, actual person, who does not have the same extreme morals or lack thereof and ingrained inclination to help or hurt people that fictional superheroes and villains have, would do if they suddenly found out they were basically a god.
So I started asking myself what I would do. It's hard to come up with a definite scenario, so I end up daydreaming of something different every time. 5625

Serious / Re: Why do you think children can do the same thing almost indefinitely...« on: March 10, 2015, 04:32:40 PM »
I actually learned about this in a class I took last semester. Essentially, children are at a formative age where observation is the main priority, so getting used to motion and sound is key, at least with movies.
With toys it's about learning in a tactile sense, like building shit with legos and getting used to how they work. They need to know how it works, in and out, before moving on to something else, and they may spend a lot of time on one function, like a blinking light on an electronic toy, because they don't understand how it works and want to figure it out by repeating whatever caused the light to appear. Adults, on the other hand, don't need to keep watching what's happening on the screen or figure out what every little feature of what they're holding does - they just need to apply that knowledge to something productive. It's natural for us grown-ass men to get restless watching movies because there's nothing productive coming out of it. We're not entertained by toys because we already know how they work. Kids don't, and they find that fascinating. 5632

And, assuming the pay is high enough, I wouldn't have to work there for long. 5635
The Flood / Re: >tfw philosophy teacher thinks suicide is cowardly« on: March 10, 2015, 04:10:59 PM »Quite clearly you don't understand anything regarding psychology, so discussing it is going to end with people making fun of you. I'd quit whilst you're still capable of maintaining your dignity.Suicide is cowardly.no I'm well aware of the causes of suicide - mainly chronic depression. I've known people who considered suicide - it's not something I'd wish on anyone. I'm not such an asshole as to say it's easy to down a bottle of pills or jump off the twentieth floor of a building. That's complete and utter bullshit. It just isn't brave. It's the result of a moment of hopelessness that leads to a reckless, selfish action that doesn't take into consideration how others would react. Anyone that does has my sympathy, but at no point will I ever consider that a courageous act. Considering it as an option and choosing otherwise, however, I do consider a courageous act. It takes strength to reach the point where ending it seems like the best choice and then decide to keep going. Not everybody does. I'm not pointing at them and saying it's their fault - far from it. But it doesn't make them courageous or brave for giving in to personal challenge. 5636
The Flood / Re: >tfw philosophy teacher thinks suicide is cowardly« on: March 10, 2015, 03:47:19 PM »Suicide is cowardly.no There's only a few certain circumstances where suicide could be even remotely considered a 'brave' thing to do. Most cases aren't. 5637
The Flood / Re: >tfw philosophy teacher thinks suicide is cowardly« on: March 10, 2015, 03:46:17 PM »It's not giving up, it's saying "fuck you adversity, I'm not dealing with your shit" and having the balls to go through with it. Most honorable.Suicide is cowardly. But that doesn't require bravery, as it's simply one listening to their self-preservation instincts. You're a sheep if you can't pull the trigger or down that bottle of bleach. I'm inclined to agree, but only in certain circumstances, such as if you're facing terminal cancer or some other situation where you're dead regardless. Dying on your own terms, if you will. Lost a loved one? Bullied at school? Lost your high-paying job? That's awful, just not to the point that suicide is at all warranted. That's blowing the situation completely out of proportion. It's caving under pressure that, quite frankly, so many others never buckled to. 5638
