If they really need money so badly that the few cents those ads get them are crucial, then they shouldn't be making videos on YouTube, they should be out getting an actual job to support themselves with. The Kilo-5 books are an example of a good idea done badly. Still, I liked the story they were trying to tell.
The Forerunner Trilogy is an example of a bad idea done badly, then salvaged at the end. I strongly recommend Silentium, but first you'll have to struggle to stay awake through Cryptum. Skip Primordium entirely, it's complete garbage.
