How come? Are they all, like, clones or something?
In 1972, Big Boss fell into a coma. Unsure of how long he would remain in this state, Major Zero and the other members of his intelligence society (which would become known as The Patriots) decided to clone him.
At the time, Big Boss was a world-renowned icon, a figurehead for, truth, justice and patriotism. In order for Zero to extend the reach of his agency, he needed the illustrious celebrity persona of Big Boss to be at the forefront of his operations. In case anything ever happened to him, there needed to be others to take his place. Hence, the clones.
3 clones were extracted from Jack (Big Boss): the first, Solid, was to only represent Big Boss's dominant traits. The second, Liquid, was to only show Big Boss's recessive traits.
The third, born sometime after the first two IIRC, was to be a mixture of dominant and recessive genes and become a "well-balanced masterpiece". He is basically an exact clone of Big Boss.
After Big Boss awoke from his coma, he left the Patriots. The nonconsensual cloning was the last straw for Jack.
what are the fucking chances that his name would be jack
He's also John, which is IIRC short for John Doe, but I could be wrong.

Thank you. I was confused when you said 'she' for boss but then it made more sense with big boss.
Aren't there like, five snakes or something in MG?
Naked Snake Solid Snake Liquid Snake Solidus Snake
So, 4.
How come? Are they all, like, clones or something?
Liquid, Solid and Solidus are clones of Naked Snake/Big Boss.
They're the result of the Les Enfants Terribles program.
That makes sense. no one likes the french, anyway.
So... when do I get to meet that prick from revengence and kill him?
Which prick?
the guy you play as
Raiden isn't an antagonist. He's an ally.
I can still kill him though, right?
In one game you can kill an exact duplicate of him with a similar name. Kojima knew how hated he was in the west.

Okay.
Why is he called naked snake?
He goes into each mission with no equipment.

Also, I have been made to understand that Metal Gears are like Halos in halo. the series is named after them, but they encountered only a couple of times throughout the series. Or something.
I know they're mechs, so that's always fun. I like mechs.
You fight Metal Gears in every game except Ground Zeroes, MGS3 and technically MGS2, but it's debatable if the RAY counts as a Metal Gear or not.
Portable Ops nigga.
...Portable Ops doesn't exist.

Gray Fox is an honorary member of the Snake Family. And Raiden is the redheaded stepchild.

I wonder if Boss could use the fulton wormhole to teleport out of places he infiltrates. Just run in, take out his target/grab whatever he's sent to retrieve, and teleport back to base.
For that matter, the wormhole could be used as an advanced courier system. Packages could be sent anywhere instantly. FedEx and other delivery services would be rendered obsolete.

Because the UNSC are technologically retarded. Just look at the Scorpion; what a horrible design for a tank.
Bungie designed shit to be fun over conventional.
Which is lovely, but doesn't make it any less shittily designed.

I played it for a few hours in college. It was exactly as poorly designed as I'd heard.

I was half-expecting Boss to tie Ocelot's legs into a pretzel after Asselot threw that bucket of icewater into Boss' face in that new 30-minute demonstration. Getting icewater dumped on you is much less pleasant than it looks, I assure you.
Speaking of legs, I wonder if Miller ever got a replacement after his amputation. Seems like kind of a dick move for Boss to get a sexy prosthetic robohand while Miller has to limp around on a crutch, given the resources Diamond Dogs has access to.

And I could take comfort in that fact that you're dead and I'm, y'know, not. Except I'd be a god. So, no.
Well, shit. Spending eternity knowing you're still around would be worse than any pain. But still preferable to nonexistence. Barely.

I'd take any amount of pain over nonexistence. I would fulfill this brain surgeon's wish. Make him immortal, and make it so every moment of his life is a perpetual gauntlet of the most excruciating pain ever. It would escalate exponentially for every millisecond you exist, so that you would never get used to it or grow numb to it. It would never peak--it would worsen every single day for all eternity (you would live and be fully conscious through the inevitable heat death of the universe, which would feel like a light breeze in comparison to the pain).
Well, at least I'm still ticking. And I could take comfort in that fact that you're dead and I'm, y'know, not. Though, on the other hand, I suppose I'd eventually get curious as to what death is like. Or if it's even anything. Immortality would just get boring, but at least I'd have all that pain to entertain myself with.

given that all time, every age, and all lives occur simultaneously, no, there wasn't.
What.
Time is not linear Our lives are occurring in the same moments that Napoleon's is.
Is it a big ball of timey-wimey stuff?

Nonexistence is the worst possible fate.
I concur wholeheartedly. The idea of having nothing, feeling nothing, affecting nothing, not being anymore, is just sickening. I'd take any amount of pain over nonexistence.

the plot was literally relatable to halo 3.
I'm offensive and I find this triggered.
nonexistent and barely existent is a pretty accurate description of halo 3's story though
Still more story than Destiny.
the shit i took earlier was more engaging and had more story than destiny
I took a shit earlier that managed to cut my asshole somehow. Gotta watch out for those weird jagged feces, y'know? So I sat there holding toilet paper to my ass until the bleeding stopped. And thus, I too have told a greater tale than Destiny.
