There's always the hope that two decades from now they'll have better treatment for cancer. Humanity has suppressed or cured more diseases in the past fifteen years than we have in all of history prior; don't count yourself out yet.

I don't understand the appeal of Pokemon. How is buying the same game with slightly different monsters again and again fun?

Or is there a better game in the series to start with? It'd be best to play MGS3 and Peace Walker first, but I suppose you could start right in the middle of it. You'd miss a lot of information and callbacks to older games though. 4419

How long are we supposed to keep our lips shut about it after launch? Saladin is most likely playing the game as we speak and has already seen it, so I guess it's fine as long as no information about the story is revealed. 4424

Gaming / Re: Halo 5 opening cinematic« on: August 31, 2015, 10:40:40 PM »that Spartans are emotionally dead The Kilo-Five trilogy, Halo 4's ending, and what we've seen of Halo 5 disagree profoundly and deconstruct the concept. Spartans are seen as machines who fight and win and do nothing else, and certainly don't let little things like 'feelings' get in their way. That's what they were meant to be, but it's made evident that they're not. Kurt and Jorge, in particular, are standout examples of Spartans who are quite clearly human underneath their suits. All of them saw Halsey as a mother figure, and learned to respect Mendez as a teacher. John's meeting with Parisa wasn't just an encounter between a walking suit of armor and a forgotten and irrelevant woman from his past. Maria even got married and had a family. They're definitely psychologically fucked up, but they're not sociopathic. 4427

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Yes, it's a reference to Sam. Every Spartan was angry that he died. What of it? 4428

Gaming / Re: Halo 5 opening cinematic« on: August 31, 2015, 10:11:40 PM »The bonds between Spartans are more akin the comrades than friendships, necessarily. Chief doesn't exactly mourn Sam very long, for example. To be fair he didn't exactly have much time to mourn anyway, what with all the missions and cryo and all that. Also the narrative skipped ahead shortly after IIRC. In Halo Wars you can sometimes hear a Spartan yell 'for Samuel!', so I suppose they do mourn him in their own way. 4430
Gaming / Re: Halo 5 opening cinematic« on: August 31, 2015, 10:01:44 PM »That's generally how sociopaths become sociopaths. It's usually a result of developmental deficits during childhood. All Spartan-IIs are sociopaths. That isn't the point. Spartans most definitely can form bonds and regret their actions in regards to others...but they (usually) don't, at least in regards to non-Spartans. Sociopaths cannot do the same; that's what makes them sociopaths to begin with. 4431
Gaming / Re: Halo 5 opening cinematic« on: August 31, 2015, 09:54:39 PM »All Spartan-IIs are sociopaths. I wouldn't go that far. It isn't that they lack empathy and remorse or the ability to form emotional bonds, it's that they've been taught not to. 4432
