Also when the Tau take a world by force that's essentially been abandoned by the Imperium There are a few quintillion people in the Imperium spread out across a fucking galaxy. The size of a galaxy cannot be overstated. The Milky Way could house the entire Imperium several times over and still leave room for the xenos. The High Lords can't get ships out to every planet that gets attacked; odds are they won't even hear about an invasion until years after if happens, unless it's an incredibly important world like Holy Terra or Cadia or something. Most of their countless millions of planets out in bugfuck nowhere have never been invaded by any of the other factions, so they don't really need constant protection anyway. And then all of a sudden these Greater Good assholes show up with their Gundams and their weebweapons and strongarm them into joining their side as second-class citizens or else they'll burn the place to ash, when everything was going splendidly on Genericworld #3,163,746 mere moments prior. Wonderful bunch, really.
