I see that some of you will be getting two consoles. Which one will you use the most?
Pretty equally. I play PC for the single player and Xbox for the multiplayer.

I find it interesting that we can edit each other's posts. Checks and balances I guess.
Normal users can't. It's only staff.
Well yeah I was saying how Ninjas can edit each other's posts.

Could be the best/worst year of my life depending on my results in 2 weeks. It's certainly been the most stressful.
Results of what? If you don't mind me asking.

My mother lied about me and decided to kick me out of her home.
She also decided to not fill up a form for my financial aid, and my scholarships will not cover the entirety of my pay in college.
Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer once again.
I lost one of my best friends.
Found out my boyfriend was basically cheating on me.

Yeeeeeeeeep
Damn. Sorry about that Vien. Hope things get better.

Seriously, the contract I'm on is looking like it's going to turn into a 100k a year salary + bonuses up to 20% per quarter within the year, and until then I'm making ~75% of that in weekly pay  as a 1099. I was on a 7-month unemployed slump before this.
So you don't work for a company at all? You're totally freelance?

Right now yeah, and I'm clearing ~1k a week
Nice. It must be awesome to work for yourself.

Especially when it's all from the comfort of my house, 90% of it anyway. I have no complaints right now.
You ever thought of expanding your operations? Like starting your own business?

No point in incurring the extra cost/pita when 1099 suits all my needs. The business type you are referring is the same as the company who is currently my primary client, which is also the company that will be putting me on full-time this year at the 100k base salary + bonus structure. It might be useful if I wanted to expand beyond my own work and add contractors to my offerings, but I'm good with the direction I'm going atm.
I'm starting college for a computer science degree in August. I'm getting my degree focus in data mining, SQL and the sorts. But there are so many different types of coding that interest me, I don't want to really be specialized in one area.

I still haven't specialized, they key is being able to learn a language/framework on the fly and develop while learning (on time and to spec.) I've been at it for over a decade, and the last 2 years have been the most fruitful in terms of realizing my potential paygrade-wise. It's an extremely competitive market, with 10000 people who know more than you in any given field looking for the same job at any given time.

Networking, and some luck, that's what it takes combined with innate problem solving ability and technical skill. Build your relationships when and as often as you can. Make sure those relationships carry on through the years, as you never know when one might turn into your golden ticket.

Also be prepared for long bouts of unemployment, and if you do have a string of success in terms of work, prepare financially for years of downtime.
Good advice. Noted.

Nothing will teach you better than experience, get in the field asap, school is good and all, but real-world experience is invaluable. Take an internship at an enterprise corp if you can get one, be proactive, and remember things tend to work out over a long enough period of time if you stay positive and keep at it.
Yeah I plan on trying to get an internship immediately. I don't care if I have to work a free internship all 4 years of college. I've already seen that experience is invaluable in the field along with connections which an internship can also do. Plus there's a lot of good stigma attached to my college's name especially with Chicago tech companies.
