The essential idea was to give a monkey a dollar and see what it did with it. If the state of the game does not change, I may pick it up as a "premium edition" with all the DLC, like battlefield does, if the price is bdlow $20 or so. That's only if the gameplay is solid though.

We're in a time where features from previous games are going to start getting cut from sequels. Especially when you look at games with a time gap like Star Wars: Battlefront. Studios aren't doing this because 'fuck customers' and they're not doing this because 'money grubbing DLC mongers.' They're doing this because a game has a budget, and they can only fit so many things into that budget.

So why are features being cut? Because the cost of producing content in general is ballooning. Look at some of the material that has come out so far for Battlefront. That blaster pistol probably has more detail in it than all the character models in Battlefront 2 put together. A single character model, weapons included, might have as much detail as half a battlefront 2 map. They've got to pay people to do that, and the demand for detail is increasing much quicker than increases in the productivity of art creation tools.

You used to be able to have a character artist that knocked out all of the character models in a game. Now you need an entire team of character artists just to work on some of the more important characters. This translates into dollars, lots and lots of dollars. And that's just art, the same extends to programming and content scripting as well. Everything is way more complex than it used to be. This object has to behave differently depending on what caliber of bullet struck it. We need to make sure the physics simulation on these plants behaves reasonably when they get blown across the map by a rocket. This is all stuff that didn't used to matter at all, but now is taken for granted and expected in modern games.

So where it used to be that 50 million dollars would get you so much content with so many game modes, that now has been cut down dramatically. The cost of each individual bit of content has skyrocketed to the point where the same amount of money won't get you remotely as far. Features that are less popular are going to be hacked off, and maybe added back on as DLC, because DLC expands the budget and lets these features pay for themselves.

Of course, this doesn't justify the lack of features. The publishers and developers going into this should have known it was going to be a large budget game, that would more than likely easily make back the costs if done correctly. Hell, I'm sure most of us would appreciate the game being delayed if that meant more content upon release. Of course, they don't want to come out and say this, so instead they'll say "Well, it was a design choice to limit play space", which is a crock of shit, and they know it.

TL;DR: Games are getting more compact and focused because the amount of money it costs to produce content is growing faster than the amount of revenue generated by any given game. If you want content, it has to be paid for somehow. DLC is likely to be that somehow.

Here is mine, currently while I'm streaming Netflix.

In Battlefront I, you followed the big battles of the saga. In Battlefront II, you followed the journal entries of a 501st soldier up until the battle of Hoth. Anything that you guys particularly want to see for the Battlefront reboot this year?

The game takes place after Star Wars Episode VI: A New Hope, meaning the main character you play as will probably be a regular Stromtrooper or Rebellion soldier. Seeing as all the clones have either retired or have died out at this point due to accelerated aging, you probably won't be playing as one.

To be honest, I would love to see a Bad Company style squad that you are grouped with throughout the campaign, bringing that sweet Imperial justice across the galaxy to Rebel scum.

Hayden Christensen Ghost:



Pros:
- Allows Anakin Skywalker to appear as he did when he was not corrupted by the darkside
- People new to watching Star Wars (especially children) get to see their hero from the PT and The Clone Wars to return.
- Allows the possibility for him the appear in later films
- Audience can easily identify the character

Cons:
- Takes screen time from a previous filled roll
- Anakin Skywalker is never seen wearing those Jedi robes in all his time in the PT
- Luke would not have recognized this version of his father physically, but probably could through the force

Sebastian Shaw Ghost:



Pros:
- Keeps the actor who played Vader when he died.
- Luke would more likely be able to identify him as Anakin physically

Cons:
- Does not allow Anakin  the potential to appear on screen in future movies
- May confuse the audience to who the character is (although unlikely)
- Keeps the form of who he was when he was corrupted by the darkside

I like Hayden better, due to the fact that it allows Anakin to maybe show up in future projects. Plus, I know from showing my nephews that it makes the kids happy to see young Anakin again.

Jar Jar is a vital part of the story and fit in with the archetypes of story and myth that Lucas based ALL of the Star Wars movies on, and a character in which the viewers can learn important morals from.

Jar Jar Binks is the clown of the Star Wars films. And it makes sense to have him feature prominently in the first act. Looking to Shakespeare’s The Merchant Of Venice, we see Lancelot the Clown featuring prominently in the early act of the play, providing useful commentary, lessons, and above all, laughs and largely disappearing later in the body of the work. Jar Jar works the same way, providing those laughs in the first movie, moving on to another purpose until disappearing completely by the middle of the saga. Clowns aren’t anything new to drama. They’ve appeared back as far as our history of theatre goes. Why should George Lucas be demonized for remaining consistent with his use of classic myth, drama, and archetype? Jar Jar is the sad bunny you help on the side of the road who gives you the magic beans to slay the dragon at the end of the journey.

As far as in The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar is supposed to be annoying, and funny to the kids. That's the point. We need to see past people for their annoyance and look at their inherent worth. Jar Jar saved the day and brought two nations of people together because just one person saw through the fog of annoyance. It’s a valuable lesson that would be well learned by those who seem to have the most hatred for Jar Jar.

That's one of the strongest morals to be learned in The Phantom Menace, and that's a reason to stand up for Jar Jar.



Because of his unifying nature in The Phantom Menace, he was promoted from clumsy annoyance to Senate representative in Attack Of The Clones. His role in the second episode of the Star Wars saga was particularly poignant for a number of reasons and explored how even the most well-meaning person can, by no fault of anything but his intention to do the right thing, be manipulated into perpetrating a great evil. In being made to feel that authorizing an army for the Chancellor was the right thing to do, he was complicit in the eventual destruction of the Republic.

This is an excellent lesson to be learned from Jar Jar in the Star Wars films, and it turned out to be disturbingly prescient. Six months after the release of Attack Of The Clones, the United States Congress unwittingly pulled a Jar Jar and gave George W. Bush the same war authority powers Palpatine was given and in another six months the United States would be embroiled in its longest, most senseless war to date.



As a final point, is this: You’ll always hear people say, “I hate Jar Jar,” and “Jar Jar annoyed me,” and, “Could someone please kill that obnoxious Gungan?” But think of this: how often do you hear people say, “I hated Jar Jar because he looked fake,” or, “I disliked Jar Jar because he didn’t interact with his environment well?” Not very often. The team at Industrial Light and Magic created the first all-CG character so convincingly that his physical presence was never the issue with fans, merely those choking on their own hubris.

Now, you can still hate Jar Jar if you want to, but it’s pretty clear that he worked for specific purposes in the films, whether you liked it or not. And if you can’t at least admit to this stuff, your inability to like the prequels has far more to do with a personal problem than with the actual films themselves.

I mean, for fuck sake, at least send the video in HD.
