Anyone else apprehensive about Starkiller Base?

A space station that can destroy star systems, probably to be destroyed by some force sensitive from a desert planet? It's poetry.  Every 1st film in a new trilogy has done it so far.

Episode 1 - Slave from desert planet destroys space station

Episode IV - Farmer from desert planet destroys space station

It'd only make sense they continue it, although it being a bit overdone at this point.

There are about 5 to 6 ongoing Star Wars comics in current canon right now. You'll have to be a bit more specific to which one.

EDIT: Just read it through that shitty water mark.  Why don't they just make it part of the Darth Vader comic series instead?

As others have stated already, it was more a writing and directional issue. Even great actors like Samuel L. Jackson gave a somewhat underwhelming performance.

Hayden is great in his other movies. There's even a recent rumor he'll show up as a spooky ghost in Episode 8, which would be cool.

Is your profile pic what i think it is?

It's Anakin from The Clone Wars, if that's what you were thinking.

Can't wait for aim bots and wall hackers flying around. The game is a six year old CoD game. That's no man's land.

Josh Holmes just confirmed the 9GB patch can be predownloaded starting Oct. 22.

Awesome. Any word how we'll do it?

If you have your xbox in it's weird sleep mode thing and have it set to automatically install updates for games, it should just install.

If your like me and don't do that, I assume you try to launch the game and an update will come. Or we will need to delete and resinstall the game completely, which is BS. Hopefully it's the first option.

Gaming / Re: is 30 fps acceptable for you?
« on: October 20, 2015, 03:03:46 PM »
Solid 30 FPS? Yes.  "30 FPS" that actually differs from 20-30 FPS? No.  Do I prefer 60 FPS for gameplay? Yes, but I can also play 30 FPS, so long as it is solid 30 FPS. Where I differ is with the cutscenes.

60 FPS is superior in the gaming market IF and only IF the cutscenes in the game are made specifically in mind for 60 FPS animations. Cutscenes in H2A and Halo 5 are designed this way, so it looks nice.

YouTube

What I don't like is when games with 30 FPS animations get upscaled to 60 FPS. An example of this being Halo 3 in MCC. Then it looks "too smooth" and has the Soap Opera effect.

YouTube

I also don't think live action should go above 30 FPS. It should stay in the 24 FPS-30 FPS range. Until we get a camera that can match the speed our eye captures things, I believe 30FPS is the most live action should go to. Because of this, you could argue that 30 FPS is more "cinematic", but the key to it is how the animations are made and key-framed.

Gaming / Re: So who's excited for working Halo Custom games?
« on: October 20, 2015, 02:49:43 PM »
I'd rather wait a month and have it work than have it launch buggy and broken ala Halo 4.

Of course if it did launch broken, those complaining now would complain it should have been delayed.
I'd rather have the game delayed until it launches. 343 is taking a big risk here. Customs are what keep the game alive after launch, especially if the multiplayer isn't up to par. Look at Reach. Objectively one of the most hated Halo games, yet it still maintains 15k-20k players daily because of it's rockin' Forge and custom game options.

343i are just assuming the majority of players will like Halo 5. What if we don't? What if the game wasn't as fun as the beta, and the Halo community drops it. Now the only feature that would keep the community around isn't coming out until 2 months after launch.

And that's not even considering you might get bored of Halo 5. The multiplayer is fun, yeah. But is it really fun as the only thing to do for 2 months?

Gaming / Re: So who's excited for working Halo Custom games?
« on: October 20, 2015, 02:08:09 PM »

Now correct me if I'm wrong. But why do you need Forge for custom games? Surely you can play customs on the 21 maps at launch.

Without Forge,  you have no custom maps for Mini games and such that populated every FPS Halo game since 3. You can only play slayer or objective gametypes on preinstalled maps, which would not differ much if at all from Matchmaking. Customs without Forge is pointless.

Almost every Halo 2 map. Maps played okay to great in other games that they were remade in, but were just designed terribly for Halo 2's shitty buggy gameplay.

It'll be fun to have Flood gamenights that won't crash every five minutes. We can play some fun games like Jenga and duck hun-

Oh wait. Forge isn't being released until December. Well, I'm sure the game can survive on just Matchmaking if it ends up being another Halo 4.

Let's just go ahead and go against all odds and say that an advance alien race visits Earth.

The world superpowers would try to retain peace, while also flexing thrir military muscles. Southern U.S. and sand niggers would try to start an interplanetary war, cuz "muh god". Places like North Korea would fall.

Assuming a war doesn't start, we would trade technology, colonize part of the galaxy, then eventually fall into a war and wipe out the alien race because humans suck.

Serious / Re: Why do we allow a two party system in the US?
« on: October 20, 2015, 06:22:06 AM »
Because it costs like $200,000 for 4 minutes of speaking time or something and the smaller parties can't afford that.

That's what I've read, at least.

True, but with the power of digital distribution now, you wouldn't need thousands to millions of dollars to speak on air for a few moments. You can do it as much as you want now, for free.

Of course, the challenge is being recognized and getting a following, but it's perfectly possible. I wouldn't be surprised if more third party groups started to gain more momentum in the next decade because of it.

« on: October 19, 2015, 09:40:57 PM »
***This is a long rant and story about how one of the greatest games ever produced turned into a pile of rotten mush due to poor development and mismanagement of funding***

Never heard of it? I'd be surprised if you did. Face of Mankind only got around up to 300 players max during it's golden times. Though, this was a good thing, which I'll explain in a little bit. The game was mostly active from 2006-2012.

I'll be dividing this post with spoilers, as so you guys don't have to scroll through a wall of text just to see replies and such.

What is Face of Mankind?:

Spoiler
Face of Mankind was a MMORPG set around 300-400 years in the future. It was a low budget and low profile MMO trying to cash in on the World of Warcraft craze that was going on at the time. Graphically, it resembled near the era of the Playstation 2. The game had 8 factions, ranging from military, to police, to mercenaries, to space hippies. The game's entire economy and in game government was ran by the players. The developers only stepped in for minimal fixes, such as weapon balancing and such. At least, until the big change happened. We'll get to that later though.

Due to being so low profile and not well advertised, the game only received an extremely small following of 200-300 players. Even though they had a such low population by MMO standards, the developers still stuck by their game and so did the community. Because the game had such a small community, it was easy to organize and work together. The 8 factions eventually formed a unitary agreement, and in turn helped each other out. Certain factions would agree to treaties to make certain items. Wars would break out over said treaties if broken.

*Military Faction (FDC) lining up for battle after a treaty with the Colonial Miners (CMG) had been broken*

Overall, it was the small community that allowed this game to "thrive" and become something worth of note. I fully believe that if this game had even above 1,000 players, the government systems we had in place would come falling down and cause total anarchy in the game.

Why was the game good?:

Spoiler
YouTube

Even though the game only had around 100 people playing at peak times in it's last couple years, it is a very unique genre of game. What other game can you have fully functional working government, army, and police force 100% created and controlled by the players? A game where you're forced to work together with others, instead of running and gunning. And if you do end up running and gunning, you get hunted down by police forces, which then in turn makes you side with others who run and gun. Then it's suddenly a 3 faction war against the establish police and military forces.

Or where you can mine resources and create necessity items like health packs. And then eventually give your faction a monopoly on the health pack market and then make a treaty with another faction to get discounted prices, to then get discounts on their exports. Which then in turn sparks a war between the other faction that wanted the same deal.

It's just a type of game you can't really find anywhere else. That being said, it did have a lot of faults. The graphics are extremely dated. The combat system is unique, but entirely too skill based that the skill gap might as well be the size of the grand canyon.  But, there's just something about it that keeps you coming back.

As a personal experience of mine, a couple of friends and I decided to be the "run and gun" group of the game for while.  We all changed our names to have the last name "O'Brian". We would sync up with the police patrol schedule (we had an inside man), and commit mass murders. We would be fined out the ass, but never pay it. Eventually we entered on of the Union meetings (Basically the game's equivalent of the United Nations, but for the 8 factions) when security was lax. They'd confiscate weapons from  the faction leaders so no deaths happen. So we broke in and slaughtered them all.  We were basically the mob family of that game for a while, and it took them months to permanently kill all our characters and have us make new ones ( You get 10 lives in the form of clones, you can buy additional... but sometimes we just forgot).

*Police Forces (LED) attempting to arrest a member of the O'Brian family*

So what happened to it?:

Spoiler

Oh, what didn't happen? It all started with The Fall of the Dominion. For context, the Dominion was the name of the government in Face of Mankind. But, let me explain a little bit what led up to the Fall of the Dominion. I'll put it in a spoiler though, incase you wanna skip over it.

Spoiler
So, the Police Department (LED) and the Military Forces (FDC) were at odds. The new head of the FDC didn't like all the power the LED had over the citizens. People could be arrested for carrying more than 5 hacking devices (essentially that game's equivalent to pot). Every other faction agreed the LED held too much power, but naturally the LED did not want to give up it's power. So what happened? You guess it, war.

The LED had declared war on every faction, including the FDC. Most factions didn't want war, so they stayed to their controlled planets and didn't touch LED worlds. The devs took note of this, and instead of letting everything play out they decided to intervene. This is not the type of game where devs should interfere with the politics of the game.

So, the devs combined the LED and FDC into one faction. Of course, they did not remove the leader, and instead kept the power hungry LED leader. So now the super LED faction is now waging war against the remaining factions. Before The Fall of the Dominion, the LED controlled all but two planets in Face of Mankind.

*LED during their take over of New York City*

The developers launched a Kickstarter program called The Fall of the Dominion. This was to break up the power that the government had in the game over the other factions. Most players were for it. They were able to reach $60,000 with their Kickstarter campaign.

Unfortunately though, the developers had also completely dismantled all the other factions in the game, a detail the left out. Essentially destroying what all these players worked for the past six years.  Basically killing the game at it's heat, with what little community it had in the first place.

They then have the audacity to call that update a finished product for the game. As far as the community knows,  no money was spent on the game from the Kickstarter campaign. In fact, one of the developers had used part of the money to get himself a brand new car.

The game is dead now. The devs killed it. I logged on a round 6 months ago to find less than 15 people online. I wouldn't imagine there to have been a resurgence. Such a shame that poor development management destroyed such a unique experience of a game.

TL;DR: Unique game got shat on by shitty greedy developers.

Planetside 2?
Lolno. Planetside 2 is only populated on Friday nights and weekends, and that's only on Emerald, the most populated server. The game is borderline unplayable during the off hours. I say this as someone that has over 1300 hours of game time on Planetside 2.

God, that game had so much potential. Such a waste. Especially on PS4. It was supposed to be a launch title for PS4.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. The game has such a ridiculous amount of potential it's not even funny, but basically all of it is squandered away because the devs no have clear vision and no idea what the fuck they're doing. The PS4 release actually had a chance to put the game on the right track again, but of course they botched it. It's fucking depressing, really.

The only reason I've played PS2 for so long is because there is literally no other game like it. The game really does have an excellent community. Planetside 2 may be shit most of the time, but in those moments where it's actually good, the game shines so much that it's one of the most memorable experiences in all of gaming. The expiriences I've had in other games simply do not compare to the ones I've had in Planetside 2.

Mark my words, if Planetside 2 ever had any direct competition that had a competent developer, then it would be one of the greatest games ever made. Sadly, Planetside 2 is the only game in it's genre.

Planetside 1 was fantastic. Planetside 2 was good but had a poor dev team. Maybe if Microsoft gets their hands on it (let's face it, Sony Online Developers suck sweaty balls), then it could end up being a decent game. Third time is the charm.
