As for demos yes they can be entirely misleading (Destiny, Halo Wars)

Okay.. what? I'm not talking about stage demos.

Halo Wars's playable demo was very reflective of what the actual game was like, in fact it's the first two missions. The stage demo was also very similar, just some changes in UI and base visuals.

Destiny had two betas and a demo. Yes, the stage demo was a bit a fib, but everything they showed in it I could do in the beta and final game. The beta played very similarly to the final game, and the  playable demo that was released with it's launch was a restricted version of the final game.

So, unless you're referring to the E3 stage demos, I have no idea what you're talking about. And even then, those demos were pretty close to what the game ended up being.

Gaming / Re: 2015

and some games even have a public beta and demo.
The demo level for Halo 2 ended up not being in the game. In that demo the Earth does look like it's being invaded. In the final game you hardly get that feeling. Halo Wars ended up being different than the demo. The demo for Aliens CM is a hell of a lot better than the final game. Hell the demo makes the game look like a demo. So no. Just because there's a demo for a game doesn't mean the game is going to be what is being shown or played. It could be like Aliens CM where it's a bait and switch

I'm not talking E3 stage demos.

Keep telling yourself that. I highly doubt you're going to finish a game that's barley playable or has shit controls just for the story.

It shouldn't be assumed everything is broken until proven otherwise.
If I sold you a pound of gold wouldn't you like to make sure it was actually gold before I took your money and ran off?

Okay, if you're using that analogy, that doesn't make sense. They still sold you a game. Just not the one you hoped it to be. For your analogy to make sense, they would have to give you something that is not a game, like a tuba or something.

You still get the gold. It's just in the shape of a dick, not a bar like you wanted. Some people like the dick. Just because you don't like the dick means you should be angry at others for liking it, you fucking homophobe.
Let's say there's a trusted car company. You're looking for a new car to buy and you immediently go to this company because they are trusted and have good reviews. But before you sign the paperwork and pay you ask if you can testdrive your car to make sure it works as expected. The company denies and asks for your money.

Who is winning here? For all you know that car could have a lot of engine troubles but you're paying for it without test driving it.

But fuck it, right? Cause it's a trusted company.

Game companies don't make you preorder though. That's your own decision, and some games even have a public beta and demo. There's even these things on the internet called reviews. They tell you about a game before it is released. Did you know that? Mind-blowing, right?

And as for your car analogy, then choose a different company to buy from if you don't trust them. Some people don't have issues with that company you don't like though, and you know what you do about that?

You deal with it.
A demo does not reflect the final game tho.

Game companies are starting to extend embargoes past game releases so you don't see reviews until after the game comes out.

Maybe in like 2005. All the demos that I've played before a game release seem to heavily reflect what the game will be like. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about E3 stage demos.

Only a FEW game companies are starting to do that. Christ, you take the actions of a few big name developers and all of a sudden every game company is like that? Let me guess, you also think all muslims are terrorists.
How the fuck can you be okay the big companies starting to do this?

Oh wait, deal with it, right?

Okay, I'll bend over for them too.

Because if a game isn't 100% up to par upon release, is it disappointing? Yes. Will it be fixed? Yes. If I enjoyed the game, despite it's condition upon release, does it really matter? No.

I agree, devs should not ship an incomplete game. Preordering however, has nothing to do with that. The game could have 1,000 preorders or 100,000 preorders, if the devs and publishers want to ship an incomplete game for a quick cash grab, that's what they're gonna do.

For example, Battlefield 4. A game originally  meant to releasing in the first quarter of 2014. Instead, to gain as much profit as possible off of next gen hype, EA pushed forward the release date by several months. The game shipped as a broken mess for most people. Does that have anything to do with preorders? Maybe a tiny bit, but nothing to be to influential.

Preorder what games you want. If you think that this whole "Don't preorder" thing in 2015 is gonna do anything, then you're delusional. If you want to have an impact on poor publisher and dev choices, don't buy the game. Preorders, as has been said multiple times in this thread, mean nothing anymore to both consumers and developers. For me, it's just so I can not waste two hours of my day on release day downloading a game when I could be playing it.

Halo 2 PC Master Race you mofo.

Also, if you bought Destiny on the PS4, you're not allowed to talk shit about Halo made by Bungie since it's the same developer, although you are allowed to talk shit about Bungie today since they seem to enjoy fucking themselves with a cactus now.

I've never had an issue with Campaign progress saving in DICE's games before.
Still doesn't change that it's a known issue with the last two games. You're blindly pre-ordering a game for story when the people that are making this game had an issue with their last two games that deletes your progress.

I don't deny there weren't issues. But I've never had any. Besides, try look at things from a positive prospective. It did happen in their past games, let's hope that they've fixed the issue.

I'm not much of a multiplayer guy either.
What's the point of getting this game then when the MP is the main focus of the game? Battlefront was never a story focused game.

I'm still going to play multiplayer, obviously. But I'm getting it for story. And Battlefront II, Elite Squadron, and Renegade Squadron all had good stories. Plus, if they have Galactic Conquest, that's where I'll be spending my time after I'm done with Campaign.

Quote
Quote
And I'm not giving into hype.
You are basically doing the same thing. You're giving into the game due to blind ffanboyism because Lucasfilm is involved with this game.

I have read almost every Star Wars book and comic that exists, and own every game. Is it fanboyism? Yes, I'm deeply enthralled in the story. To me, it's no different than preordering a book before its released.  The real question is, why does it bother you so much that I'm getting the game?

Quote
Quote
I'm giving into my love for Star Wars.
Which is giving into the hype...You're already getting this game all because it's a Star Wars
.
As explained above.

The game can be as good as Colonial marines for all I care, I'm getting it for story.
Lel. The stroy isn't going to mean much when the game as shit gameplay or a campaign. Super Man 64 can have the greatest story ever but it's not going to get the game far when it's unplayable.

I preorder whatever game I want.
You shouldn't

Unlike most people, I preorder games that I research and have had a good reputation from the developer. Preordering is showing support for the company. Will I do it for a game that's a piece of shit? No. Will I do it for tthe next portal or L4D? Maybe.
Reputation and trust means shit all.
Researching a game won't determine if it'll work on release or be good.

Pre-order isn't showing support. It shows that you're willing to fork over money for a game that's not finished, which gives developers less of a reason to make the game work.

Pre-ordering hurts the industry.
Pre-ordering every othe game title you purchase hurts the industry. For example, I plan to  preorder Battlefront. You know why? Because there has never been a Star Wars game with a shitty story, even the gritty ones.I highly doubt Battlefront will break this example, you know why? Because the story team over at Lucasfilm is keeping DICE and EA in check to bring a good Star Wars experience.
You're pre-ordering on blind fanboyism over Star Wars. That doesn't excuse pre-ordering.
You're also pre-ordering from EA.

I'm a big fan of Halo, yet I don't pre-order them because I don't want to buy a game that has the possibility to be bad or broken.
If it is broken, then pre-ordering it just shows MS that people will buy it regardless of how functional it is.

Even if Battlefront does have a good story, that won't mean shit if the game is anything like what BF4 was when it released. Even if you don't play the multiplayer, you absolutely should not be okay with that portion being broken just because you don't play it.

You shouldn't pre-order. Trust and reputation means absolutely nothing.

Now you're just speaking out your ass. If it truly meant nothing, then they wouldn't be trying to earn ours. It just sounds like you're butt hurt over a few bad games you were hoping to be good or didn't turn out the way you wanted.

Lel. The story isn't going to mean much when your campaign progress is going to get reseted and the main part of the game which is the MP is going to be broken. Showing blind faith into a developer is retarded. we know what the launches for BF3 and BF4 were like so having this blind faith into Battlefront is asinine. The only thing you and others are doing by pre-ordering this is showing developers you are giving into the hype instead of waiting to see what the game ends up being. If you people actually waited to see what the game is like when it is released then these developers wouldn't be making games that are badly broken or unfinished. They would actually have to try at them and include the cut or hold back content. Look at what Destiny turned out to be. You people that blindly pre-order are risking games to be like that.

I've never had an issue with Campaign progress saving in DICE's games before. I'm not much of a multiplayer guy either. And I'm not giving into hype. I'm giving into my love for Star Wars. The game can be as good as Colonial marines for all I care, I'm getting it for story.
