The Flood / ITT: Tell the story of your childhood« on: October 05, 2014, 02:51:46 PM »
I lived in a lower middle class family, in a neighbor that was half way converted to ghettohood. Mother was a chemical scientists with a bachelors degree, Father was a highschool drop out cop. I had 1 sister who was an anti social, school loving nerd. My Father taught me how to fight, and how to fight dirty, so it's safe to say I've never lost a fight. (Fight me IRL u scrubs)
I went to an elementary school full of low IQ hillbillies. I was the top of my class and one of the most advance students in the district. Made friends with an ADHD black kid. He taught me how to draw better and shit. We eventually made comic books. If I remember correctly, it was a boy and his Doc Brown-like Uncle who would make crazy inventions and help the kid out with family and school in his weird way. Basically "Rick and Morty", only for Elementary schoolers. We would make 10 copies of the same comic every afternoon for a week before making the next. Sold them at school for 50 cents each. Classmates loved them and we were rolling in the big bucks. 5 whole dollars a week, man! We eventually got in trouble and the school confiscated out money (greedy bastards). Once middle school hit, I got bullied a lot. I'm usually very quiet and keep to myself. Then one day I was pushed to far and got into a fight. 3 on 1, but the other 2 back off after a couple of hits. The last one was a giant sack of lard, so I got a heavy duty stick to defend myself. Behind us was a ditch, which I knew a good way to get to the other side of. I backed up onto a large rock and pushed off it to jump back onto the other side of the ditch. With the rock moved from my jump, there was no easy way across. Basically felt like this. Spoiler Of course, that wasn't the last time fat lard messed with me. Turns out we lived near each other. So after I finished visiting my black friends house in the summer, I get ambushed and surrounded by him and 4 of what I can assume to be down-syndrome kids with sticks and a metal pipe. The fucker with the metal pipe came at me first, and I wasn't gonna have any of that. I grabbed him while he was charging and disarmed him, as well as pop his arm out of socket. At this point the others are beating on me with the sticks, though are only hitting my arms to try to get me to drop the pipe, which was idiotic. I hit one kid in his knee cap and another in his rib cage. The fat lard dropped his stick and ran off. The last one was going for his bike to ride away. Of course, the guy instead of riding off in the other direction, rides toward me to get away. I stick the pipe in his spokes as he rides by and he flips and does a face plant. They never bothered me much after that. Fast forward to when I was 14. My mother moved to another state to support us with a different job. My father became more abusive and alcoholic without my mother there. My sister grows to be a fat lard and resents me for her having to watch over me because our father was incompetent. We later move in with my mother. That Thanksgiving, my father blamed me for taking his cigarettes, in which I told him I didn't and went to my room to ignore his yelling. He broke my door down and put his hand around my neck to strangle me. While I was struggling to breath my mother came in and yelled at him to get him to stop. With him distracted I threw him off me. He tried to grab me again, but instead I grabbed him and smashed his head against my wall (I know, that sounds horrible). Years later and he's not much better, but he doesn't threaten me physically since I'm well stronger than him now. We are currently seeking help for him. I know that kind of took a weird turn, but meh. Share your lovely or depressing childhood! 309
Serious / Do you consider "Spanking" to be child abuse?« on: October 05, 2014, 07:49:39 AM »
When I was younger, I got spanked for misbehaving to an extreme extent. However it only went up until I was about 5 years old because by then I learned if I acted like some rabid monkey in a store or disrespected my parents, I would be punished. My mother would pull on the back of my hair, which hurt like fuck, when I was misbehaving and it helped me learn. So, when I started going to public, such as school, places I wasn't some shit stain that the parents dropped off for the teachers to take care of.
Now, discussing this with my aunt who used to work for child services says that this is child abuse and my parents could have been arrested. She has two young boys, one 7 and one 5. She is also one of those people who thinks anything violent is going to make her children murderers (she wouldn't let them watch Tom and Jerry because it was too violent), as well as that anything on the internet is true. As you can imagine, she doesn't discipline her children aside from the "I'm taking the iPad away for 1 hour young man" treatment. Instead she blames their misbehavior on food and media, instead of accepting the reality that they are just little shits who need to be disciplined. Now of course, I'm not talking about beating up your child or anything. But a spank or pull of the hair every now and then for their behavior is good thing for them in the long run. Do you agree or am I just a sick monster who abuses children? 310

The Flood / What do you view as canon in Star Wars?« on: October 02, 2014, 02:01:38 PM »
I view what is officially canon as canon (Movies, Clone Wars, Rebels, etc.). The rest that has been categorized into "Legends" I view as, This shit happened until it is overwritten with new content (aka all post Episode VI stuff due to the new movies). Since The Clone Wars references Clone Wars (2003) and they can both exist without disrupting each other, Clone Wars (2003) is still canon to me.
I don't have a hard time adapting to changes, like the look of Mandalore in the Clone Wars never really bothered me, especially because Karen Travis is a terrible writer. What do you view as your personal canon? 317
News / Review - Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion« on: September 29, 2014, 08:00:22 PM »Story: Spoiler Set about 15 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the new animated series begins on the planet Lothal with a young, teenage orphan and thief named Ezra. Through his antics, he ends up in a chance encounter with a small group of rebels while they’re stealing from Imperial Stormtroopers. Eventually he ends up on their ship, the Ghost, where his Force abilities capture the attention of Kanan, one of the last surviving Jedi. Ezra ends up learning that Kanan and his allies are doing what they can to fight back against the Empire and help those in need. After escaping the trap of an Imperial Officer, they make a daring attempt to rescue Wookie slaves from the Empire. By working together, they rescue the wookies and Ezra joins the rebels to learn the ways of the force and become a Jedi. Characters: Spoiler Kanan: Spoiler Labeled as a "Cowboy Jedi", Kanan is the leader of a small band of rebels on the planet Lothal. He is one of the few remaining Jedi after the downfall of the Republic in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He will play the role of "Master" in his relationship with Ezra as he teaches him in the ways of the Force. Ezra: Spoiler A local pickpocket of the Capitol of Lothal, armed with an electric sling shot, Ezra meets up with the crew of The Ghost and it changes his life forever. His is taught about the Force and shown that he can do good for people in the galaxy. Ezra will be taken under the wing of Kanan to learn the ways of the force, and will eventual construct a blaster/lightsaber hybrid for himself. Zeb: Spoiler Based off old Chewbacca concept art, Zeb is the muscle of the group. Given a raspy voice and an electro staff, this guy can take out squads of stormtroopers with ease. Sarcastic and witty, he often gets into brotherly-like arguments with Ezra. The two end up forming a close relationship as the series progresses. Sabine: Spoiler A teenage Mandalorian, Sabine is the most creative of the group. She is an explosives expert, and very artistic with how she does her work. Not much else was expanded upon her character, but will most definitely be developed as the show progresses. Hera: Spoiler Hera is the pilot of The Ghost. She is the one who is more of the nurturer of the group and helps everyone keep level heads. It's heavily implied that she and Kanan are in a relationship. Chooper: Spoiler The snarky and disobedient astromech unit of The Ghost. As said by Dave Filoni, "If R2-D2 is a dog, Chopper is a cat.". Agent Kallus: Spoiler The main antagonist of this hour long special, Agent Kallus specializes in neutralizing rebel cells throughout the Empire. Animation: Spoiler If you've ever seen Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animation style here is very similar, after all it's made by the same team. Though this time around, the motions are more fluid and round. Visually, it's amazing for a CGI television show, but nothing that I'd par up to theatrical releases. Suffering from smaller budgets and tighter schedules, quality from The Clone Wars to Rebels reduced in things like explosions and landscapes. That being said, the visuals still look absolutely amazing, making homage to the original trilogy with it's laser and lightsaber effects. Soundtrack: Spoiler The soundtrack is a mix of John Williams's score and original compositions made by Kevin Kiner, the composer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It is done very well and has it's own unique feel to it. YouTube Review Score: 9.0/10 Spoiler While a great show, it just felt a bit short. This is just two episodes put together sold as a separate movie. The visuals and sound as well do seem a bit lacking at times, but having seen future episodes, this issue is fixed later on. A fantastics show for kids and Star Wars fans alike. Personal Score: 8.5/10 Spoiler While great for all the reasons listed above, one thing that really annoyed me was the cheesy dialouge. However, seeing as how it seems to only last for the very beginning, I think I can get over it. It does seem a bit lighthearted in the beginning, but I have seen future episodes... and boy does it get dark fast. Remember, just because it's on Disney XD doesn't mean mature content won't exists. Naruto Shippuden is a prime example of that. Watch the episode for yourself! (Free) (720p) >_> 318
The Flood / So, my sister just got into a car crash« on: September 29, 2014, 06:27:18 PM »
We just took the week off to visit my sister in Indiana (we live in Virginia). During that week we helped her find a car for about $4,500. It's been less than a week and my sister already got into a car crash. Some drunk driver crossed 3 lanes of traffic and hit them with a head on collision, totaling the car. Life sucks.
EDIT: My sister is fine. No injuries. 320

Serious / Mantis shrimps can see cancer, and scientists have now created a camera off it« on: September 27, 2014, 10:41:56 PM »
http://www.sciencealert.com.au/news/20142609-26244.html
Quote While current imaging systems already use polarised light to detect cancer, there are limitations to the size of tumours they can detect, and they require large equipment. By replicating the eyes of mantis shrimp, the scientists hope to improve our technology to the point where it could be included into a smartphone. This would reduce the need for more invasive cancer detection methods, such as biopsies, and could help detect cancer earlier. Pretty interesting. 324
