Sailor Moon (Toei, 1992, three episodes) The wonderful thing about shojo series is that they tend to have the coolest and most fleshed out female characters in the entire industry. So to that end, I respect Sailor Moon as a franchise quite a lot. Do I personally enjoy it, though? No, not particularly. Not just because it's for girls, but because none of the plot threads or themes are really resonating with me, and the bubbly aesthetic is threatening to give me diabetes. 5/10
Whisper of the Heart (Yoshifumi Kondō, Studio Ghibli, 1995) Yep, it's a Studio Ghibli film all right. Impossible to hate, yet also impossible to love or be thoroughly impressed with. It make sense how one of the more obscure Ghibli films is also one of the most middling, and I only like it less the more I think about it. 4/10
Mobile Suit Gundam (Sunrise, 1979, three episodes) The appeal of these stupid mecha shows may forever elude me. It's just a nonstop deluge of ridiculously dumb shit being battering rammed repeatedly and relentlessly into my fucking face. Anime at its anime-est. Fuck characters, fuck plot, let's just have mindless action scenes all the time. No thanks. 2/10
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (AIC, 1992, two episodes) Quite run-of-the-mill outside of the cool character designs. I don't know why I expected more. 4/10
Bonobono (Group TAC, 1995, three episodes) Sure, I can get behind stuff like this every now and again. It's for kids, but it reminds me a lot of Peanuts or Calvin and Hobbes, in that there's a lot of stuff for adults to take away from it, too, making it wholesome, yet thoughtful. But both of those two comic strips are something I have personal attachments to, so I'm naturally going to gravitate towards them more on an emotional level. I'm also not gonna sit through 40+ episodes of it. But hey, whatever. I don't hate this. 6/10
H2 (Production Reed, 1995, three episodes) Paint drying. Ice melitng. Watching H2. The show is about baseball and is about as entertaining. Which is to say, not very. 3/10
The World's Most Famous Tales (Toei, 1995, two episodes) Just. Watch. Disney. These things do not need to exist in any capacity. 1/10
Magic Knight Rayearth (Tokyo Movie Shinsha, 1994, one episode) 4/10
Wild Knights Gulkeeva (Sunrise, 1995, one episode) 2/10
Jura Tripper (Ashi Productions, 1995, one episode) 2/10
I can't find streams for these shows anywhere:

i also play competitive games, if you don't understand why competitive games take energy, i'm not sure what to tell you
that you're being elitist and hating on the very things you're doing?
yeah
sorry buddy, I talk to people every day who are in platinum ranking shit like on League, and while I loathe that game, they're in far more competitive environments than you.
I play Rocket League on a daily basis competitively. Like top 5% in the world tier in Solo Duel... Sure it might be stressful to play at times, especially in tournaments but I love coming home after a long day and playing it. Like fuck, competitively playing Rocket League is one of my favorite things to do.
I also enjoy competitive Rocket League
What confuses me is the lack of energy or "mood" to play it. It's supposed to be fun, like that's supposed to be your free time fun activity, regardless if it's competitive or not.
you have NEVER not wanted to play rocket league
you are in a constant state of wanting to play rocket league
How the hell did you get that from what I said?? And actually yeah, if my friends are up for it I'm generally always doen to play it unless I have an obligation or some other game I want to play more.
if you don't understand the concept of not being in the mood for something (which is what you said)
then that leads me to believe that you're always in the mood for it
I meant more I wasn't sure why a long day would cause that lack of a mood to do it. Usually a long day is what drives me to play something like Rocket League. It's a contrast to work
because they're both things that i have to put effort towards and after a long day, after i've done all my work, finished my schoolwork, and taken care of all my responsibilities, i don't want to put any effort into anything for the rest of the day mostly, i just want to lie in bed, fall asleep, and then never wake up that's what i look forward to the most

Well yeah, might is the better word. It might not work out for everyone because everyone is different. When I say workout, I don't mean just do some workouts and you'll feel better. It needs to be accompanied by a lifestyle change and a desire to improve if and only if you're sick of the life you are living. It's not a one goal solution because if it was, I doubt anyone would be depressed if they had the answer right in front of them. Honestly if you're depressed, what I'd recommend first is therapy and help on that front.
thank you, that's much more reasonable that's why my first response was "so basically it's not worth it" though, because i honestly don't think any girl is worth changing your entire lifestyle over, but that's jono's prerogative if he wants to do that if you want to change your lifestyle, do it because you want to, not for anyone else

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood me in the first place, or I expressed myself wrong, so allow me to try again.
He was asking about confidence boosting and I said (or meant, i'll go back and read it) that working out will increase your confidence tenfold, and a benefit is also the attraction bonus. That's not me trying to get him laid, it's a simple fact of how human minds work. Fat/obesity is inherently unattractive because it is unhealthy, and has a load of negative connotations with it (we could go into depth with this since it's not always been like that, but for the sake of this post let's not).
Even if someone is zero interested in women but wants to feel better about life, I'd advise them to consider adding workouts to their lifestyle (along with other things).
That's what I meant. Whether or not you disagree with it is another story entirely.
>"will" >not "might" see, that's what i don't like again, i've worked out regularly before for about a year, and i can't think of a less useful experience it has been for me overall, so when i see someone say that working out is guaranteed to improve your life (because the word "will" connotes a guarantee), i feel obliged as someone who hasn't had that experience to sort of provide a counterexample because as much as i dislike jono, i wouldn't wish a fate like that on him, where he works out, hates it, and doesn't get what he wants in the end i'll also add that plenty of people find fat people attractive (they're crazy, but they exist)

i'm $100K in debt because my college career didn't pan out the way i thought it would, but at least i have 20 extra years to slave away paying it all off because i'm just so darn healthy!!!
no one is asking you to prolong your life, just realise that some people could conceivably want to for good reasons.
It doesn't even have to be about prolonging it. Just improving quality of day to day life.
explain how feeling sore for hours in the morning because i expended all my energy lifting or running the other day, and not having any remaining energy left to do actual fun things, is improving the quality of my day to day life
I dunno, when I was running everyday, I felt refreshed and full of energy.
that's awesome, i envy you when i run i just want to die, and wasn't bad at running either (i would be now though)

Your actual fun things require the same energy as that? You're playing video games or whatever, you can do that for hours without moving what kind of physical energy do you need?? have you ever just not wanted to do something because you had a long day you just weren't in the mood for it if i worked every day, i would never be in the mood to do anything fun i also play competitive games, if you don't understand why competitive games take energy, i'm not sure what to tell you even then, staring at a screen full of bright colors while playing a game that's asking much of my reaction times, dexterity, and my full undivided attention in order to perform well isn't always something that i have the energy to do, regardless of whether i'm playing a competitive game or not The soreness is one thing but you're only sore because you haven't done it in a while, if you're consistently working out for a moderate amount of time you don't feel like you're dying when you do the same exercise. that's not the point of exercise you're supposed to work out until you're sore, because that's your body growing stronger if you only work out doing what you know your body can handle, then you're not getting sore and you're not getting stronger, which is the point of exercise i should know, because i have exercised and it sucked fucking dick, and it was the biggest waste of my time ever As for the improvements, say you have a bad back because of posture, well doing exercises to improve your back strength will help to alleviate that. Say you were sore every time you stood up but did exercise for 10 - 20 minutes every couple days and it went away. Is that such a commitment?
not worth it

Your argument is already flawed if you have your own threshold of what fun is. Some people find working out as fun as you find something like Zelda
that's what makes humans unique and allows you to argue with them all day. People have different opinions and ideas.
well no, you see, because that was my point from the beginning you were giving advice to jono saying "working out will get you laid and improve your life in general" all i said was "yeah but maybe it won't though, that's not guaranteed"

We just come from fundamentally different standpoints and will disagree. My mindset being that if my life is ultimately pointless and serves no real purpose, I might as well feel good and enjoy it while I can, and maybe try to make an impact on some idiots lives.
but i don't disagree with any of this i just think there are 100x more efficient ways to do that than exercise

I mean I think Luciana's point is that you might live to be 40 - 50 but the quality of your life might suffer. Various issues that add up to make it less enjoyable.
the world is shit, i'm poor as a motherfucker, and everyone's a fucking idiot but at least i have abs :DDDD
what a joke
lmao, have fun with your various nagging physical ailments that could have been prevented from spending a bit of time doing some exercise.
better than having fun living in complete misery because i didn't spend enough of my time doing what i wanted, rather than what some dumb kid on the internet thinks i should do "but you already live in complete misery" four fifths misery, work and exercise would complete it

It was an example
average lifespan is 71 for men, 81 for women, so you're about 20 years off with that unless you hop over to Africa maybe.
that's what i'm saying, it's practically guaranteed for you to live up to 40-50 range, and you don't need to exercise to do it, because the average lifespan is much higher than that, and most people don't get "enough" exercise so what i'm saying is, does it REALLY matter is it REALLY worth it

I'd get with you in arguments but I think old age is retarded too, but no I was thinking 40's and 50's, and I encourage you to do research on what obesity does to you, along with exercise in general
your ignorance on it is pretty telling
but nobody here is obese, and living to 40s and 50s is basically guaranteed for the average person if i wasted several years of my life exercising, i'd probably find ways to justify it too
4283
« on: February 02, 2018, 01:03:49 PM »
holy fuck your peoples arguments with verb are fucking retarded
you don't need to work out to save yourself from a situation that risks your life, and you don't need to workout to be a beefcake
It's simply desirable to stay in shape for a myriad of reasons, attraction to men/women being the least of which. Unless you wanna die early and from complications, or feel miserable, don't get fat and don't abuse your body.
i think the amount of lifetime that you would "gain" from exercising is the same amount of time you would have to spend exercising for it to make a difference that isn't negligible in other words, i could spend 5 years to gain 10 years, or i could, you know not do that, because it's the same difference what is the difference between someone who dies at 65 and someone who dies at 70 you're just old for another five years, big whoop, nobody lives forever

That is a remote possibility. This is also a straw man. My point is the more physically fit you are the better your chances of protecting yourself and your loved ones from others. i mean, weapons exist That's just not true. When you're in a near death situation, all philosophy, religion, whatever goes out the window and fear, desperation, and the will to live kick in on overdrive. You'd wish you had the strength to do so. well yeah, but that's called being irrational what i believe in my most irrational state of mind is the exact opposite of what i actually believe I just don't really care at this point in my life and having fun right now is more important for my mental well being than exercising. same here so you shouldn't be responding to me at all, unless you aim to sympathize That's true, but that's why I think it's something that should be taught to children at a young age and in a fun way, to make sure all kids feel included and motivated. But I guess you might as well wish for world peace, with the way PE teachers are. all my PE teachers were fat pieces of shit, which i thought was hilarious I don't like gyms and I don't recommend anybody goes to them. It's a waste of money, a stupid culture, and generally a waste of time. Just do push-ups, sit-ups, burpies, whatever in your own home and you'll likely have better results than going to the gym half assed like it's a job. And before anybody else says that's bullshit, it's not. It works, and I was in good shape because I was worried I'd need to be in good shape to protect myself in case something happened.
i could probably stomach doing 50 of each of those every day or so but i'm the kind of person who needs a tangible end to strive for, and i just don't

Why do you think that? more people should be voting in the long term, because hopefully by that point, we'll actually have an electorate that's educated, well-informed, unbiased, and thoroughly invested in the political affairs of their country but in the short term, less people should be voting, because we're simply not there yet, and we're not going to get there for a very long time (if ever) and that's just the reality I mean if they don't bother trying to learn anything and they don't vote when they easily could and should, they don't really have a leg to stand on. i don't think that's so easy for most people most people don't know how to conduct proper research, and you can't blame them for not being able to do so it's actually extremely difficult for the average person (who doesn't understand how the internet works) how to sift through news sources, detect bias, and realize when they're being fed bullshit even these so-called "fact-checkers" can manipulate people into thinking ANYTHING just by calling themselves a "fact-checker" i don't think it's reasonable to expect people to know where to look for the facts people are smart but they're also stupid and gullible Can they recognize a shitty situation? Sure, anybody can. But they don't really have the "right" to say anything because they did absolutely nothing to change anything. I know this recent election was a complete farce, but to abstain when there's a candidate like trump who has the possibility of winning, I think you let your country down tremendously.
sure, the nature of this past election is something of an anomaly where the correct choice was so painfully obvious, i wouldn't have wanted to see less than a 90% voting turnout but i'm not factoring in the last election, though, because yes it was a farce, and also because no other election in american history has been this clear-cut, especially on the state level (which could be argued are the ones that matter more) in other words, i'm just trying to be general

What the hell? You should always be in shape and ready for anything, you never know what situation you might find yourself in. Personally I think the education system should encourage this and teach you survival skills. the inability to survive a freak incident where being able to lift 300 pounds would've saved my life is such a remote possibility that i'm willing to sacrifice it for my own personal comfort and trade it for something i actually enjoy doing and if i got into that situation and i died for being too weak or whatever, i would die knowing that i still made the 100% correct life decision if you took away all the things that i enjoy doing with my life and replaced them with work, i can guarantee you that i would kill myself by the end of the year either way, i've seen from experience that most people who lack the drive to grow physically stronger simply will not get any kind of results if they exercise out of necessity rather than having a genuine desire to therefore, even if i were stupid enough to waste my time at some gym, i'm not going to get anything done, because i don't care and i don't want it
4289
« on: February 02, 2018, 09:43:34 AM »
do you seriously think a test before being allowed to vote is going to encourage more voting?
obviously not, but that's not a bad thing less people should be voting i disagree entirely with the part where she said that those who abstain (or otherwise consider themselves too uninformed to vote) have no right to complain about a shitty result, because while they may have the humility to consider themselves too stupid to vote, i'd say most people are smart enough to realize a shit situation when they're put in one or maybe not, that's just how i feel
