I spent a sizable chunk of my time in college tutoring or being a TA, did an Education concentration for my Astro/Physics requirements, passed my MTEL certification test for secondary-level physics, and then landed a job in August from a very nice district in Massachusetts. Working on my Master’s in Education at the moment.well, congratulations 363

Because I'm pretty "satisfied" with my collections at this point (although "satisfied" in quotation marks, because I obviously won't be truly satisfied until I've collected every last game on the fucking planet), I'm going to shift my focus towards collecting games released in the year I was born, since I'd like to play as many of those as I reasonably can. Mostly because I'm obsessed, but also because it'll probably make some interesting YouTube content some day.
Over the past month, I made a collage of all the stuff from 1995 that I'm interested in. It has 400 games on it, and I'm interested in playing ALL OF THEM. That's a lot of games, though—probably more than I've ever played in my life—so for the time being, I decided it would be best to narrow it down to about 50. This works out anyway, because the original image is 20 whole megabytes, which is woefully too big for Imgur's tight ass, and I don't know where else to upload it. Japanese and other foreign language games were accounted for (such as Clock Tower and the original Trials of Mana), because I think it would be a pity to miss out on some kick-ass game just because I can't speak the language. I figure there's gotta be fan translations for the majority of games released in this era anyway, so it's no sweat to me including them. This chart was created after painstakingly sifting through 15+ game libraries in order to check out what each and every system had to offer. Frustratingly, there's no good video game database on the Internet that catalogues every single game, so if you want a definitive and comprehensive list of games put out in a specific year, you pretty much have to do your own research—and that I did. I even scanned through the fucking CD-i, which sucked ass—and if someone had only warned me just how much shovelware they put on the Amiga, I probably would've skipped that one. If any of you happen to know any cool games from 1995, let me know if I'm missing anything, because I'm certainly not going to stop after this one batch here. 367

Gaming / Re: The original Fire Emblem is finally getting a localization« on: October 22, 2020, 12:25:36 PM »Wow I'm so glad Nintendo has set this fucking precident.Yeah, it kinda fucking blows. I fully expect Mother 3 to get this treatment, too. It's practically guaranteed. Adding to the Fire Emblem situation, the original game has actually been available on the Famicom version of the NES service on Nintendo Switch Online since March of last year. Anyone can download the Famicom app if they set up a Japanese account on their system, and they'll be able to play the original FE right now (albeit in Japanese) so long as they maintain their subscription. In other words, there's literally no reason for this. It's transparently just a scummy move on Nintendo's part. I can't spin it in a way that's positive for anybody. 369
Gaming / The original Fire Emblem is finally getting a localization« on: October 22, 2020, 12:09:38 PM »
........................available for a limited time
YouTube Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring strategy for Nintendo as of late, and it's really pissing me off. Recently, to celebrate Mario's 35th anniversary, Nintendo dropped Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of three remastered 3D Mario games (64, Sunshine, and Galaxy) as well as Super Mario Bros. 35, a free-to-play (as long as you're subscribed to NSO) version of the original Super Mario Bros. that's been retooled into a competitive multiplayer battle royale, similar to Tetris 99, where 35 concurrent players try to outlast each other in the classic game. However, due to this apparent new marketing strategy that Nintendo has begun to employ for any sort of rerelease of their retro back catalogue, these games will only be available until the end of March next year. In other words, you have until April 2021 to purchase 3D All-Stars for your personal collection until you won't find it in stores anymore. As for Mario 35, because this game is exclusively digital, the game will simply poof out of existence, so that nobody will get to play it anymore. This is fucking AIDS for obvious reasons, and the trend does seem to be continuing for this Fire Emblem localization, coming out on December 4. To be positive for a sec, the fact that they're localizing this game at all is pretty damn cool for a retro gamer such as myself, and for someone who's never really cared about the Mother series, you could actually say that this game is like my Mother 3. It's that exciting for me, because I've been waiting SO LONG to play the original Fire Emblem game in a language that I can understand. I just kind of hate knowing that I'll inevitably be forced to challenge my own principles with this one, because my inevitable purchase of this localization will inevitably feed into this new anti-consumer practice that Nintendo has adopted for their retro games. Kinda makes me sick, and sours what is otherwise fairly exciting news for Fire Emblem fans and fans of old-ass games alike. 370

What measures are we looking at this time around?
MI's only got two, both of which are easy and boring: Prop 1: This measure would establish the Michigan natural resources trust fund and would change the ways in which revenue in the state's park-related funds can be spent, including allowing for spending on: (A) capital improvements at Michigan state parks; (B) operations and maintenance at Michigan state parks; (C) acquisition of land or rights in land for Michigan state parks. [yes] Prop 2: The ballot measure would add language to the Michigan State Constitution that requires a search warrant to access electronic data or electronic communications. The ballot measure would also state that electronic data and electronic communications are secure from unreasonable searches and seizures. [yes] meanwhile, states like MA are getting to vote on cool stuff like IRV and shit. no fair 378
The Flood / Re: Take this« on: October 10, 2020, 09:09:07 AM »the trick when it comes to these quizzes is to understand the question behind the question—like, if there's one that says something like, "i've always been into things like basketball and baseball," and you put "strongly disagree" because you're only interested in football and soccer, you're kinda missing the point—because what it's really trying to ask you is if you enjoy games that involve working with teams and physical activitywasnt totally sure on some of the questions, since how I think I am and how others see I am are differentAlso I think one way but usually end up doing the opposite there's another proposition that has to do with whether you follow routines, so for that one, i sort of had to think of myself in a different/more idealized state of mind—because while i don't happen to follow any routines right now, it's only because i'm depressed as fuck, and don't really have my life in order; so i could put "strongly disagree," but that wouldn't be 100% accurate because the fact that i don't follow routines is very distressing to me—i wish and strive to have a plan that i can consistently follow every day to sort of dig myself out of the emotional hole that i've dug myself into over the past four years—so from that angle, i can put "strongly agree" in order to reflect an ideal the only proposition that stumped me for a while was the one that had to do with having a wide variety of interests my gut feeling to that one is "yes," just because i can definitely give you a laundry list of things that i'm interested in—music, movies, writing, video games, etc—but all of these things can be boiled down to just "art" do i really have a wide range of interests if the only thing i'm interested in is art? and like, philosophy 379

The Flood / Re: Take this« on: October 10, 2020, 08:25:49 AM »well, i'm extremely kind to those who i think deserve it, and to be honest, "empathetic" is one of those words that i think perfectly describes me—i've just been known to weaponize itYou clearly know that there is something wrong with the test if it says that Verb is kind and empatheticThat's the problem with these sorts of tests, a lot of times the answers don't really mean much because it varies depending on how you interpret it.Yeah, that was something people have found weird about me, how I think one way that's drastically different than how I act in person. I find the serotonin thin weird, too, because it's not like I'm good at planning things, I just dwell on the future a lot and all the different ways things can play out, which leads to a lot of indecision up until the last minute, which drives my nutswasnt totally sure on some of the questions, since how I think I am and how others see I am are different if i've ever chosen to say something hurtful to somebody, it's not because i don't realize how hurtful it is—it's because i know precisely how hurtful it is; a sociopath/someone without empathy wouldn't be cognizant of that the two words used to justify each section are obviously broad generalizations anyway—my low dopamine rating has more to do with the fact that nothing in life really makes me happy these days, more than it means that i'm uncreative you can say the test is silly, but based on what i know about all of you guys, i wouldn't say anyone's results have been totally inaccurate so far—my results in particular sort of corroborate my feelings of being "agendered" or w/e (not that i would ever use such a label to describe myself, but still) 382

Dad came through on those N64 games, so I can cross one of these off now:
- Castlevania (fucking finally) - Mortal Kombat Trilogy - Tetrisphere - Rat Attack! as well as an Advanced D&D game for NES called Pool of Radiance, which i believe is the first one out of four Mortal Kombat Trilogy is also cool, because it's among the first eight games released in the first year of the system's life in the US. These games include Mario 64, Pilotwings 64, Wave Race 64, Killer Instinct Gold, Cruis'n USA, and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. I have all of these games except for one now: Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, which should be easy enough to find. Overall, this brings my total to 56% of the library. 388
