RWBY and Sword Art Online
both of which are shit, even though SAO had semi decent arcs at some points.
SAO had great music and some really nice animation sequences, so, on an objective basis, it's good.
Hardly anything near "excellent", but it's pretty clear the people that say it's utter shit are only going off their emotions.
SAO DOES have good music, yes, but the main protagonist is more edgy than Cloud and about as shallow as a puddle.
That's a disservice to shallow puddles. And aside from a bit of promise that Sinon showed before she turned into Asuna 2.0, all the characters are shit.
But out of animation (including art), sound (including effects), story (including dialogue) and Voice acting, it only falls flat on its face at the story.
I hate what they did with Asuna. She was easily the better character early on in SAO and would have made a better main protagonist, but then they turned her into the stereotype love interest. Then she just literally gets raped in the 2nd half.
See, about that. It turns out that in the source material, the Asuna we see later on is the original iteration of her character. So there wasn't much hope there to begin with. Really, they should've done an FMA03 with it and gone down a different route with it.
