So, since both L4D games are backwards compatible on the Boner now, I was thinking that we should group up and play some.

Preferably, I'd like the full 8 players for versus mode, however I'll just test the waters with a thread first and see if there's enough interest in the game for anything to happen.

So, as some of you bongers might know <.<
The colour milk that you buy says a lot about you and whether you are infact a stand up person or a degenerate piece of filth. Or a baby.

So just to make things simple
Green is the only correct vote
Blue is for babies
RED MILK A SHIT
Or worse... Hippy shit

Fer Yank transatalkin' click 'ere
Green is Semi-Skimmed, Blue is whole milk and red is skimmed milk. Hippy shit is any 'milk' that doesn't come out of a Cow or a Goat.

Vote as if your lives depend on it, and I promise I will try not to ban you for voting red.

The Flood / Computer issues, pls help.
« on: February 22, 2016, 07:52:02 AM »
So I've tried my hand at putting together my own computer.

I've gotten all the parts, they're not excellent but they're good enough for what I can afford right now. I pieced the computer together, made sure to be careful and connected everything up according to the manuals and some online help when I wasn't sure.
Parts
Western Digital Blue HDD
AMD Athlon X4 quad core
Crucial Ballistix 16GB DDR3 (x2)
Gigabyte GA Motherboard
Seasonic S12-2 PSU

When I power it up, the lights come on, fans spin and the keyboard lights like caps lock etc all light up.
But nothing appears on my screen.
I've tried VGA and DVI inputs, I'm going to try HDMI shortly.

It's as if I'm not even turning the PC on and I'm stumped. Taking everything apart and putting it all back together did nothing, so it doesn't seem like I've missed a cable or inserted one into the wrong place.
Googling and asking on another forum hasn't done anything for me, I'm going to contact the motherboard suppliers if nothing comes from this thread, since I'm pretty sure that's where the problem lies.

Help me Sep7, you're my only hope.

I don't know many details yet, just that his crippling disease finally took him. No words can really be said about this, let's just pray that he's in a better place now. He was truly an inspiring individual.

Please, I'd rather not turn this thread into an argument about false accusations and such, let's just mourn our lost friend.

I have a laptop, that I got in late 2012, if age matters much.
Just today when I turned it on windows explorer stopped responding and kept freaking out whenever I started up the PC.
I can't do anything on it, even a system restore had no effect.

Is there anyone that knows techy stuff able to help, or provide some info?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

News / Anime Review: Parasyte
« on: January 21, 2015, 04:41:57 AM »

Genre: Drama, Psychological, Action

Synopsis

Spoiler
The 17-year-old Izumi Shinichi lives with his mother and father in a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo. One night, worm-like aliens called Parasytes secretly invade Earth, taking over the brains of human hosts by entering through their ears or noses. One Parasytes attempts to crawl into Shinichi's ear while he sleeps, but fails since he is wearing headphones, it enters his body by burrowing into his arm instead, taking over his right hand and is named Migi.

Because Shinichi was able to prevent Migi from travelling further up into his brain, both beings retain their separate intellect and personality. As the duo encounter other Parasytes, they capitalize on their strange situation and gradually form a bond, working together to survive. This gives them an edge in battling other Parasytes who frequently attack the pair upon realization that Shinichi's human brain is still intact.

Story

Spoiler
The anime surrounds teenage Izumi Shinichi and his struggle coming to terms with the alien living inside him and the trials that same being creates as it drags Izumi deeper and deeper into trouble just by existing.
All the while monsters that consume humans and hide in plain sight wander freely and mingle with society.

Where did the Parasytes come from, what is their purpose?
With this anime, the answers won’t come cheaply.

Animation and Art

Spoiler
The production of Parasyte is headed by Madhouse (Death Note, Trigun, Death Parade) and licensed/distributed by Funimation.

The art of the show seems fairly average at first, it isn’t unusual, there are no apparent deviations from the seinen style. That is, quite grounded looking, without the overstatement of features such as the eyes.
The brilliance of the art here comes with the Parasytes, creatures that can morph and change appearance at will.
That can alter their very makeup to be soft and flexible or hard as steel.

The setting is mostly in suburban areas, the backgrounds are detailed, but there are no soaring skylines or oddly shaped stuctures.

Animation in Parasyte is, again like Death Parade, fluid and thorough. Madhouse don’t pass up chances to show their talent.
The real treat, again, is the Parasytes, where their morphing abilities are shown to full effect.
Parasyte stood at the top of the stack last season, it's not letting that top spot go without a fight.

Soundtrack

Spoiler
The soundtrack to Parasyte is an odd one.
The OST features both dubstep and orchestrated pieces.
Mixing dubstep and techno-like music with heartfelt melodies isn’t something I thought would work and sure enough a small number of times, the wrong track choice is played for certain scenes, but overall the mixing of the genres works surprisingly well for this series.

Overall, sound is crystal clear and high in quality.
The voice acting is performed to very high standard, with almost no non-emotive tones or bored sounding actors.

The opening is well put together and doesn’t feature much in-show animation, so, while foreshadowing aplenty, it doesn’t give away any actions preformed by the cast and doesn’t reuse assets.

The Verdict

Spoiler
Parasyte was an anime that quickly built up momentum and popularity, but still remains seemingly hidden for all the attention it has gotten.
Based on a 20 year old manga, the anime is reported to be nothing but faithful for its first season.
Airing alongside names such as Psycho Pass and Fate/Stay Night, Parasyte held it’s own and came out as a top contender of the season for it’s animation and character driven plot.

The animation is well above the standard of its airing season, but the inclusion of the Parasytes and the odd way they are animated really let that facet of production shine and stay shining all through the season and into the next.

The plot is intriguing and full of mystery, with a surprising amount of character development and involvement and devoid of many of the typical character tropes.

Parasyte gets a rating of 7.5/10.

My Thoughts

Spoiler
Parasyte came highly recommended to me from a trusted source, along with hearing good things about the show that pushed me to finally watch it.
And I don’t regret starting it at all.
The characters are quite relatable and come across as naturally human and the plot jumped at me with intrigue and emotion once it finally got rolling.

This is an anime I would recommend easily and with its second season currently airing, I eagerly await each new episode.

News / Anime Review: Death Parade
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:04:35 PM »

Synopsis

Spoiler
Queen Dequim is a bar in a corner of the world where the souls of the dead gather.
With no idea that they have died, two souls walk into the bar. Dequim, the bartender, welcomes the customers, who are clueless as to what is going on.
“I'm going to ask you to bet your life and play games,” he declares.
The souls must put their best efforts into playing various games for a chance to get out of the bar. As the games unfold, the souls' true colors are bared. What judgment will be handed down to the two?

Story

Spoiler
The story centres on the bartender Dequim and his new assistant. Onna as they deal with and judge souls that die in pairs.
The judging is done by a game. The games range from darts to airhockey and through competition, the true colour of the souls is tested and brought to light.

As emotions flare and tension between the players rise, Dequim, normally sombre, experiences these events and emotions with Onna and starts to feel something within himself.

“What is life really all about? What is man's true nature? The story unfolds as it poses these questions."

Animation and Art

Spoiler
The production of Death Parade is headed by Madhouse (Death Note, Ninja Scroll, Trigun) and licensed/distributed by Funimation.

The art of the show has a lot in common with Ufotable’s work, the acclaimed Kara no Kyoukai series.
The character design is both simple and complex, compared to most anime. Clothing is basic but detailed and facial features include a prominent nose (Unlike a lot of other artstyles available).
The most extravagant piece of character design to be shown so far is in the hair of the main cast.
The set of the hotel bar, dim and trendy, can quickly explode with raising platforms and moving walls to turn into an area to facilitate one of the many games played.

The animation of Death Parade is fluid and thorough, careful attention is paid to showing emotion with body language.
It is above average and definitely stands near the top of the animation department this season.

Spoiler

Soundtrack

Spoiler
The music is almost subdued, a jazz themed ost fitting for the tone of the set, a quiet, fashionable bar. That is, until the games begin, then the music picks up and rises in beat with the tension of the players.
The ambience is crisp sounding and well included, things like darts hitting boards, glasses clinking and string stretching add to the quality of the show and make things feel more alive.

The opening is quite deceiving, the upbeat music, smiling faces and snappy animation belie the psychological nature of the show. The nature of the opening tells of a fun show where the cast enjoys themselves

The Verdict

Spoiler
Death Parade is not a dark horse, coming from a well recieved short animation and subsequently getting a fully fledged season of production, this show has something good to give.
Airing alongside titles that have done extremely well in previous iterations this year, it's arrival to the scene is nowhere near overshadowed, it shines.

The animation, while not groundbreaking or even top class, is well above average in the first two episodes.

The plot holds a lot of promise, although, if not up to scratch, will fall down around its own head quickly. Especially if the development of the characters isn't done with care.

From the first two episodes, together making the prologue of the story, animation and story have been interesting and of high quality.

Death Parade gets a rating of 7/10.

My Thoughts

Spoiler
As someone who doesn't frequent the psychological genre, Death Parade intruiges me.
I'm curious to find out just how the character Dequim, changes as the show progresses and what exactly goes on at the bar when the "customers" are gone.

Death Parade wasn't even on my radar until it began, but now I'm hooked and wanting more.
I'll be keeping a close eye on this anime for the time being and I don't think I'll ever tire of the opening sequence.
