Not sure how I feel about this narrative to vilify the Capitol Police in a scenario where they were incredibly overwhelmed and that resulted in five lives lost.
It's reasonable to assume that the response would have been different if it was ANTIFA or something (a discrepancy between police responses in right-wing vs left-wing protests is a fact supported by data) but the National Guard probably would have been called much sooner. They were withheld by President Trump, who was reportedly pleased with the riot while it was occurring. I don't think I can fathom why democrats or republicans would want to be stormed by an angry mob of fascists and conspiracy theorists, when they were literally in the building.
The video of them "letting them in", is actually the police falling back because they knew they wouldn't be able to hold their position. The only person waving them in is some guy in a hoodie and sweatpants. Not sure what to make of the selfie guy, but to my understanding there's an investigation going on.
There's not some big conspiracy here. The only villains are the mob members that were chanting "hang Mike Pence" and had combat gear and zip tie hand cuffs, our dangerous rogue president, and the GOP members that continue to enable him.
Feel free to fact check me on any of this.
I thought one death was the officer that got beaten with a fire extinguisher, and the other four were rioters. One of them at least was a rioter, since she got shot through the doorway by an officer.

After all that shit and protesting, even if it was well meant, do you feel like anything at all was accomplished? Was any justice done? Any headway made(other than showing that the police force is an issue)?
I went to 3 separate marches, stopped going because of health stuff and the risk for covid was too high. I was there for police brutality, as I've seen a lot of it firsthand. The last time I ever called the police was when I was staying at a motel near the public transit station- I heard a man and woman screaming in the floor above me, sounded like the man was extremely angry and the woman like she feared for her life. By the time the cops arrived, the screaming had stopped and they didn't even try to investigate. Instead they kicked a homeless man awake who was sleeping on the grass, arrested him, and left. There have been other events, but that was the one where I completely stopped trusting them and the last time I ever called 911.
Not much changed here, but in other parts of the country the police was at least partially defunded. I don't go much into specific detail about events like that in my life on here, but I'm no stranger to attending protests. When you work in nonprofits as much as I have it's practically part of the job. They don't typically result in immediate change. But as far as I'm concerned I was just doing my part. Nonprofit work was what kept me going when I was homeless and gave somewhat a sense of purpose, and I still contribute to causes on occasion. It's also what got me couches to crash on and scholarships to go back to school.
Never been in protests but I've passed through small riots and gang gatherings. I was surprised when I was in victoria back in 2019 for new years. The police had some real heavy duty combat rifles and gear like they were expecting trouble. I guess I just never pictured myself as a protester person. Never saw the point, considering all the downsides that can come with, like opportunist riot starters and looters. To my understanding it's part of the reason why the BLM protests where met heavy handed. Antifa was involved in the looting and rioting. Everybody got painted a broad brush stroke. S'pose I can't rule out the possibility of change from a protest, if done right though. That'd be the catch though, wouldn't it.

Doing some reading up on stuff. Apparently the national guard was mobilized and ready to go but the pentagon gave some orders that delayed that, allegedly. If I had to make a ballpark on that one it probably came from repubs. Although I personally wouldn't rule out demos either. Then you've got shit like the police on capital hill supposedly letting in the rioters vs the officer who got killed after getting beaten with a fire extinguisher and the other one that got crushed between a shield wall and the mob pushing against it. There's a lot of angles at play. Somebody wanted that shit to happen. Not just Trump or the dolts that stormed the building either. You see the circle that's starting to spin up again? There's going to be political strife between hardcore repubs and demos for a while now. I'd bet you there'll be protests coming and more conflict. BLM is jumping into the mix now(not that their points are invalid). The big divides are being stirred up again, and everybody is going to be outraged at something for the next long while. Things will settle, they'll debate for months, and then the next big firework show of whatever shit will come up and do it all over again. If this shit's not planned, then it happens through calculation and capitalization on events. And that's partially why shit never gets done down in the states. Those well meaning to do groups out there are played because all of their reactions are predictable. The divides are stirred up easily. And as long as everybody's bitching at each other or holding protests and riots(which are highly controllable through prediction of emotional responses), that little inner governmental wheel keeps turning, and nothing of any real consequence in the way of positive change happens. That's why I've no faith in any organisation, even if they're well meaning. They're either playing for power(which they need to influence change) or they're being played. I didn't know you took part in the BLM protests Nuka, so out of curiousity, I have a question for you.  Thought I'd visit a more recent event in memory. Came across some homeless guy that OD'd while taking a walk through a park. I spent hours waiting after I called the authorities about it and tried to get his heart started. Nobody came. I would've focused primarily on is face, since that's what's still gets me. But the day itself, where he died, I feel also is what makes the lasting impression to me. I just waited hours in the rain, sitting with him until I gave up and decided to leave.

My cynicism calls. That footage could be cherry picking if it's not isolated to the same place. It's partwise a moot point if there's protesters getting beat up in another state entirely and others getting a better treatment on capitol hill. That just indicates the police force in one state is more rubbish than in another. Not to be a detractor to the actual situation, but shit like that serves no constructive purpose other than to paint a slanted narrative. If all the sources are out of the same general location, then I'd be more likely to buy it.

I would be unaware since I wasn't there in person. And I keep tabs in a minimalistic sense only to know that stuff is happening. I don't trust news outlets or social media not to slant things in their favor because it's proven that they do.
Like I said, not to detract from the actual situation. You just can't ever trust anybody with political motiffs, even if they cover critical events and happenings.

Looks peachy. I certainly won't attempt to deny anything about the immense divides in the states because I can't. It's plain as day. You live there, so more than anybody you'd have a clearer picture. Certainly more than me, since I've only passed through fleetingly and heard all the talk from friends in the past. Don't pardon me on my skepticism though. You of all people should know how all organisations and politics work. They all have self serving agendas. The longer they exist and the larger their framework gets, the more possibility of corruption or highjacking. And that only occurs at the top levels of the framework. It's always the people that are ground level who end up paying or being played.

I got extraordinarily lucky when my sociopathic ex tried to get me fired on a false accusation of harassment. Not only did the company find her accusation entirely baseless and told her to never to make up a lie like that again, but she ended up losing her most dreamed position/location to me in the end afterwards.
Had she gotten away with it though, and had I lost my job, I have several thousand dollars in savings in the case of unexpected unemployment and have various levels of backup plans laid out in case one of those things don't work out. It would be a major setback to my overall plans but I figured if things just keeping failing for me, so long as I can get an overnight security guard position at some retirement home I'd be okay. Sure I'd lose all my ambitious goals, but if I'm failing constantly, I'm probably not cut out for that anyways.

I'm pretty damn accustomed to most of the things I want or plan not working out. Enough to the point where failure is the expected default, and good things are a genuine surprise. Can't say I do much of anything to cope, and I can't answer why I keep trying in spite of things. I just do.
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. After while enduring things gets easier as you build up resilience. But I also wouldn't consider myself the best person to ask.
Bout the best answer I could hope for. One at least. Thank you kindly for that.

Considering you have the algorithm RNGesus to deal with, or the fact that the platform's become another bloated economic shithole. You'd have to have some real cutting edge polish to get some traction going for yourself.
the question of whether something intentionally bad can really be bad is a question of whether intent, and the execution of that specific intent, are the two most important factors when evaluating a work of art, which i think tends to undervalue a lot of other important facets to consider, such as whether the choice to make such an intentionally bad work of art was the best choice to begin with--was it a meaningful or intelligent choice? was it a contextually appropriate choice? would it have been better if they had just made something traditionally good instead?
there's also an ethical side to it. how much money was spent on it? how many man hours were wasted? there's many counterpoints to the old "but it's intentionally shitty" argument; the easiest to make, of course, is that bad is bad is bad is bad. if you make something bad, but you meant to anyway, then congratulations--you made something bad. for me, that does not automatically make it good. there has to be something else going on, like an ed wood tribute that successfully manages to capture that director's distinct lack of taste and style, while maybe shedding new light on the value of schlock cinema
as for the youtube thing, i've learned in life that if you tell yourself you're going to fail because of this or that from the outset, then you will, because it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, so i choose to roll the dice--i think my perspective on shit is unique enough that i could catch some viewers, because i'm basically a living hot take dispenser who has something to say about everything, and i can always start it out as more of a personal hobby early on

The neat trend that I've seen at least is that "bad" art typically uses the fact that it's bad for shock value. Which makes it a pretty cheap gimmick with no substance other than to act like an advert for what it's trying to convey. It's telling rather than showing. Maybe that in itself qualifies it as perhaps not bad, but like you say, poor decision making process. That's earnestly really good to hear from you Verb. Long time ago I was worried that some of the negative tendencies you fostered in mentality would trap you. Correction, your standpoint of looking at the negatives. Nothing wrong with weighing them, but I find that in too many people I've met, the negatives grab hold, and as you say, grant the self fulfilled prophecy. That you're at least trying with something you're good at is also nice to hear. If we're gonna be here for a while, may as well try and do something we enjoy right? Don't give up on that.

as i brought up before, i'll be okay if it's bad, because 3.0 was so hugely disappointing for me that i've found it particularly easy to keep my expectations in check, and even if it really is his worst work yet, that could serve as the perfect launchpad towards some kind of youtube video essay career, because i'm an opportunist like that i guess

At the risk of continuously being labeled a Reddit Consooooomer, I've waited eight years for this movie and if there's one franchise that I truly connect with, it's this one, and this is the big finale for all of it. When watching Eva it's like looking into a mirror, I see a bit of myself in all of the main four characters. That can be both optimistic and also scary at the same time. These characters have positive qualities to them but their mistakes and how others treat them really tears them down and I can't help but notice the parallels with my own conflicts in life.
Hideaki Anno is a genius and after this final movie for the whole series I doubt I'm ever going to find a work of art as personal to me as Eva.
That being said, it's earnestly nice to see that you're so enthusiastic about stuff. Be nice if I could feel that kind of enthusiasm about anything. See, now I've just got this funny image of game of thrones season eight happening again. Except that the creator is known for trolling the fanbase. What better way to do that than tank a finale? How would you feel if the entire movie was just a massive stream of visual and written vomit done on purpose for the sole point of driving home the series undertones that failed to establish the first time around?
