Gaming / Re: Beat Fallout 3 100%

Try a kill everything playthrough. Collect all the unique special weapons and clothing.

Try beating the game using only melee weapons or your bare hands. While addicted to every possible drug. With all crippled limbs.Wearing only a party hat.

Or try a Fallout 3 version of FNV's hardcore mode. Not allowed Rad X or Rad Away, only food and water can heal you and limit your ammo on your person to be a max total of 500. (Seeing as you can't make ammo have weight on F3)

Have an Alt and don't tell anyone. Wind up your activity that account while winding down on this one.

Then just don't say you were Trussing Door on your Alt. People here could always guess but if you say nothing, they can't really prove it.

So when you get acting you'll be known as "that guy who said fucked up stuff before, but that was a while ago", while actually you could be still doing that as an Alt called SoAndSo.

While I believe in rehabilitation over punishment, I still think execution should be reserved for the really sadistic or mentally unstable criminals.

Those who commit an extreme crime with no chance of rehabilitation (such as the Norwegian guy who killed 77 people for a recent example), or those who've committed extreme crime after a rehabilitation process should be executed. (This stops mistaken identity executions, as the accused would have to be in the wrong place and time twice which is pretty unlikely, as well as a ton of evidence for both cases.)

However, if an execution must happen, it must be quick, painless, and as private as possible. Otherwise it would be sadistically glorified by a crowd and desensitizes us all to such violence.

I wouldn't say it's rape.

Besides that, however, incest, prostitution and paedophilia aren't immoral by any reasonable capacity.

It's still rape if they don't have the mental capacity to answer. Same as ryhypnol or excessive amounts of alcohol.

And as for the latter, how so? Genuinely intrigued. (excl. Prostitution to be fair, but I'm erring on the the side of immoral)

Mars is actually quite far off from colonization on a large scale than most know. If we had anything there, chances are we'd have to live in massive stations. It will be a long time before anyone can walk out on the surface of mars without a protective suit of any kind.

And those moons out by the gas giants have their own troubles too. Jupiter puts out a fuck ton of radiation, so, again one of the moons people've been considering is off until we can find a way around that. And again, there's a terrain issue. As this particular moon orbits Jupiter, the fluctuations in gravity have a tidal effect on the moon. Instead of raising oceans however, the actual landmass shifts, rising and falling by about 300 feet. Building a structure to withstand that amount of tectonic activity is, almost impossible.

And the one moon out by Neptune, although snowy and cold as fuck, has other problems. It's got some chemical composition in the snow different from our snow, and pockets of methane exist under the frozen snow. But there's enough light and heat, that when disturbed, either by heat or say, for example, somebody stepping on a pocket, that little bubble of methane and other gases explodes.

People don't like to admit it, but really, all we really have is one world to call home in our system.

Huh, didn't know about Jupiter giving off radiation.

Still, there's always the moon. Maybe not suitable for a total terraforming, but seeing as we've already had people on there it'll just be a matter of time before we have some sort of International Moon Station.

Let's see...

Incest? Check
An OTT Lobotomy? Check
Essentially paying for sex? Check

Yep, pretty damn immoral.

You could even argue it goes against his utilitarian beliefs seeing as he's making a child brain-dead on purpose, similar to those brain-dead vegetables in hospitals they pull the plugs on. That's total psychological harm by making them husks, and then humiliation by fucking them.

EDIT: Oh, and that's ignoring the elephant in the room with the pedophilia and rape. (Even if this was in the Vatican/Japan, it's still un-consented sex)

Mars seems way easier. I don't know how you could terraform Venus.
Mainly a matter of removing it's current atmosphere, how to do that is sort of all conceptual at the moment.

Better chances than Venus at least. Although, Mars has it's own problems. The dust on mars is different than ours, since it's composed of different minerals and such. Storms on mars last months, whipping up sand into the air, again, for months. This sand/dust is incredibly fine, which means any machinery on mars in a storm or facing weather like this on a yearly basis will break down fast.

And, there's the problem with thunder storms. All that dust and shit, particles rubbing around in the air makes so fucking nasty thunderstorms. Mars is cold, but it has it's own hot currents too. And I imagine if we started terraforming, this would only cause more troubles. Lighting and wind storms on mars would be fucking strong. Many times over what we have here.

Not to mention a lack of a (strong) magnetic field, theorised to have been lost due to solidification of Mars' core. Even if we were able to get to the point of creating an atmosphere somehow on Mars, Solar radiation would just strip it off.

Oh, and sunburn would be a bitch.

5678
Isn't Venus the one with acid rain and a shit ton of volcanoes?

Either way, doesn't sound exactly hospitable. Mars seems relatively easier.

5679
lolno

Relations would still be shitty without our help.

Granted, but it still seems there would have been a delayed conflict at the very least if Britain wasn't trying it's damnedest to help get the kindling going.

It's a very long article (and comes from an Israeli news source, so I expected some bias...), but it pretty much outlines how the UK used secret agents to try and incite war between the Arabs and Israelis, including a plan to have the surrounding Arab nations to invade and split up Palestine, which somehow would improve Arab relations with Britain.

This is just a brief summary:
Spoiler
Quote
England will give up its mandate over Palestine as soon as possible and return it to the UN, which will oversee, if necessary, an international force to reestablish order in this country. A retreat from Palestine of most of the British troops can already be envisaged. In the event of open conflict between Jews and Arabs, the English, under the pretext of not wanting to be attacked from both sides in these hostilities, where it maintains an officially neutral position, will retreat to Transjordan, from where one or two British divisions will be able to immediately intervene if necessary. British agents will now push the Arab countries to intervene to help their brethren in Palestine if they are attacked by the Jews.”
Cairo and Arabist diplomats in London and the Middle East, supported by the senior military authorities, were determined, contrary to cabinet decisions, to hold on to the Middle East – even if it led to an all-out Arab-Jewish war.

Another goal was to prevent the establishment of a Jewish state or an Arab-Palestinian state based on the UN partition. There were also emergency safety measures – both military and diplomatic – to prevent the Jewish state from expanding its territory if the Arab armies were defeated. In this event, British forces stationed in Transjordan and Egypt would intervene, while British diplomats in the UN Security Council would act to impose a cease-fire.

Whether the Arabs won or were defeated, its instigators assumed that Britain would be in a better position than it had been in the summer of 1947. Indeed, the attaché's report concluded: “The British position, which for some time has appeared precarious, will thus find itself again dominant, all the more so as Egypt’s termination of the Anglo-Egyptian treaty will enable the British forces to maintain their position on the Suez Canal.”

As the communist threat became less convincing, British agents believed that they had to come up with more effective leverage to persuade the Arab governments and public that their countries needed Britain’s assistance.Without the knowledge of their cabinet, from June 1947 until May 1948 British secret agents conducted their own covert policy. While officially seeking to convince the Arab governments of the importance of concluding defense agreements with Britain to counter the escalating Soviet threat, they secretly instigated an Arab-Jewish confrontation in Palestine to advance Britain’s strategic ends. They sought to use a war in Palestine to deflect the Arab public’s attention from the controversial treaty negotiations; as an incentive for the Arab governments to conclude defense treaties with Britain; to demonstrate to the Arab rulers their countries’ need for military collaboration; to reinforce the Arab states’ military dependence on Britain, while preventing the establishment of a Jewish state or limiting its size.
Alongside negotiations with the Arab governments on defense treaties, the British secret agents stepped up their efforts to fuel violent Arab-Jewish clashes, urging the Arab leaders to close ranks against the Zionist threat. An Arab-Jewish conflict would also validate Britain’s long-held position regarding the solution to the Palestinian problem and demonstrate that, despite its good intentions, it was caught in the middle. Moreover, it would help Britain secure its strategic assets in Palestine: Haifa, with its port and refineries, and the Negev region in the south.
The British secret agents used almost all the “dirty tricks” in their arsenal – fear, jealousy, greed, false promises, misleading information and playing on inter-Arab rivalries – to provoke the Arab rulers into a war in Palestine. Nuri al-Sa’id (until the failure of the Portsmouth Treaty); King Abdullah (between June 1947 and May 1948); and Azzam, Mardam Bey and Sulh, and other co-opted “agents of influence” – all allowed the British secret services to operate behind-the-scenes to implement their schemes. King Ibn Sa’ud aptly described the British agents as “master puppeteers.” Azzam admitted to a Jewish Agency representative that “we have no choice but to go to war, even if we will be defeated.”

« on: September 14, 2014, 12:59:20 PM »
I don't know. I could rank life by how much they mean to me personally and to the world (a scientist or whatever), but I think the value of it must be a lot if I don't ever wish to "spend" it.

E.g. I know that if I were force to end someone's life, I'd prefer it to be a random person I've never met with no relatives or future potential than a family member. Then again, if it were the life of someone else or myself, I'd most likely choose me to live.

Isn't it funny, how the silent protagonist works? Now that you mention it.

Funny, how for some reason, silent characters can have such an attachment to them by their fans without ever saying a word.

I suppose you really could say that actions speak louder than words.
Yeah, everyone can see how Gordon Freeman got his Doctorate in Theoretical Physics by bashing inter-dimensional aliens with a crowbar.

OT: Assuming Columbia is in the same Universe where Rapture exists, I'd suppose he'd be a constant. Though I'm not certain on this.

For other games, what is considered as canon and continues on to the next game varies. For TES, the main quests were considered canon and done by the character, while faction based quest(s) were canon although done by some unknown person other than the main character.

Other games took a completely different approach. For GTA, there's a "HD" and "3D" Universe which are completely unrelated to each other, which explains why characters from GTA IV are referenced or appear in GTA V, but CJ from GTA SA isn't (because he's from the HD Universe and doesn't exist in the 3D Universe).

They give the U.K. government more revenue from their lands than their salary costs the taxpayer.

Can't argue with that. Still see little point in them though other than money. Having them have a title of "rulers" without actually ruling anything seems stupid.

having to pay taxes

It would make no sense to have them pay tax.

If they weren't kept as high and mighty rulers we wouldn't need taxes to pay for their protection, or whatever else it goes towards. Then a percentage of their revenue still generated from tourism can be siphoned off to go to something else, or their vast amount of totally private properties (which I hardly believe are all occupied) can be opened as attractions, generating further profit.

TBH I'd rather get rid of them all, they seem completely pointless from an outside perspective. With no power other than signing off on new laws (which I really think doesn't Queens signature to make it fucking law...), yet still have the maintained presentation of superiors, requiring a shit-ton of security.

But...I suppose they could be tolerated by only having the honorary title and having to pay taxes and what-not like everyone else does*, and having their other benefits of being royalty gives being removed.

Saying "Nobody cares" still adds to the discussion factor, because you're telling OP there isn't any to begin with, and should never do said topic again because it's pointless

OP, who at this point is obviously hurt by this, tries a shit attempt at a comeback, which so far in the history of forums, the best comeback is "You cared enough to reply"...which is still shit.
