I made a GIF a few days ago. Sort of. Entitled "Carpet Ban".

The Flood / Re: Smoking cigarettes« on: September 17, 2014, 06:56:38 AM »
I tried a cigarette once. Can't say I saw why people have them personally, to me they tasted like stale, burnt bread. I can't even see why people smoke cannabis for the high, they could just as easily eat it (or the resin/oils, apparently they sell blocks of it in certain Cafés in the Netherlands) without getting the damaging smoke.
Anywho, I don't know exactly why smoking has been targeted, compared to the relatively damaging legal substances available. If we were going by the British classification of drugs (where they look at the adverse effects on your health, your social life and some other stuff like addiction rates), alcohol would be comparative to the damaging effects of Meth, Cocaine and Heroin (Class A), whereas I think things like Cannabis is Class B I think. Then again, alcohol only damages yourself (maybe some other guy if you're a violent drunk, or a stupid one and decide to drive), but cigarettes have the potential to damage other people in the area (and I guess it accumulates if you're smoking and in a smoking place with other people...sorta like a smoking circlejerk). I know you yourself (Class) only smoke on your own, but it doesn't stop other smokers from doing it. 5644

I'd have to agree with BC2, though BF1943's one sounds pretty damn good.

Nope. I don't think about it, and I'm young, so I don't care.
What I'm afraid of is dying early. Anything below 80 and I'm going to be rather disappointed (and dead of course). 5650

Although you've explained why he can't answer for this himself, I'd rather I'd get it from him that he wants himself banned for ever. I can wait for his reply, once he's unbanned again.
Also, what thread? I haven't seen it so if it's possible to link it, I'd be grateful. 5651
Gaming / Re: When people claim to be hacking you on xbl« on: September 16, 2014, 04:59:20 PM »
Call of Duty is great for this sorta thing. All the little squeakers threatening to hack me... whenever I ask how exactly, they seem to quieten down a bit.
Me and a friend once reversed it on this guy, pretending to be the actual "hackers". Corrected him every step of the way on his plan to hack us, and just threw in a bunch of IT words to do with the internet and how we'd use his parents credit card to get him in trouble, and this poor kid started shitting his pants (figuratively, of course). A bit cruel, but the little shit got karma'd. 5652

Only if everybody shut the fuck up about it and never mentioned religion.
But...seeing as online it's a hotbed of discussion, someone will mention it, someone will then post something a bit extreme (on either side) and then it all goes tits up. 5656
Serious / Re: Would you support American troops returning to Iraq?« on: September 16, 2014, 04:26:34 PM »
No.
Nor any other foreign military. ('cept maybe the UN if they had the firepower to back up some sort of ceasefire agreement or policing, or whatever they do as a neutral army) 5657

There's probably variations on that, depending on how said loved ones come to their end and whatever their will states how they are to be buried (what with family mausoleums, cremations, and those new ways to be buried such as with tree seeds in a biodegradable box) My Dad already has told me his plans. "Just put me in a fucking cardboard box and bury me in the backyard. Don't worry, I won't care." It's not exactly a happy topic to discuss about, so I don't really think about it. 5658

Serious / Re: Is Religious Tolerance on a large scale possible at all?« on: September 16, 2014, 05:35:42 AM »
I think it is.
I mean, we get along mostly ok in the West with Christianity, Catholics, Protestants and Atheists. Add in Hinduism, Buddhism and the other Asian ones (seeing as I haven't much conflict between any of these on a religious basis in the last decade or so) ...And then we have the lesser developed countries, where just being a different sect of Muslim can get you killed. 5662

The Flood / Re: How does personal statement write? (UCAS)« on: September 15, 2014, 10:53:03 AM »
Oh jesus that fuckin' thing.
Regardless of how you write it, you WILL sound like a twat. Sorry. Although I didn't write one for a Computer Science course, my generic advice is: -Use larger vocabulary than you already do. If you already sound "posh" in writing, keep it that way (or you run the risk of them thinking you just copied words off the internet). -Say how computers and coding (is that computer science?) have always interested you and have read various books, and go briefly into why you are interested in it. E.g. For a geology course I applied for I said I was interested in taking the course because I am interested in how the Earth "works". Volcanoes creating Islands, Earthquakes creating trenches and mountains, all that good shit. -Ask your teacher for their opinion and feedback on it, a LOT. I ended up making 10 drafts of the stupid thing. Also, it's best if you ask an English teacher, they are fantastic word-smiths. -Say how great you are, ignore how bad you are. That's simply put of course, but don't over-do it. Making yourself sound like the King of the world is kinda arrogant. Also, if you want an example I'll PM you my PS if I can find it. It got me an offer and finally place in a good University (though I think it was my grades tbh), and even I fucking hate my personal statement because it isn't really me. 5664

Serious / Re: Friends of the Earth change course of Nuclear energy; admit it's safe« on: September 15, 2014, 09:58:01 AM »
I wouldn't say it's totally safe, but it's far safer than it was in the 80's. Good for FotE to change stance, although that may undermine whatever credibility they have/had.
Recently I also discovered the waste from the old Gen. 1/2 reactors can be re-used in the more modern reactors (Gen. 3/4), so that's good news, considering the highly radioactive (and at the time, completely useless) waste was just being dumped like landfill. 5667

Just wanted to see if being male makes you be more biased towards male artists/bands, and vice versa.
I have to say mine is completely stacked towards male artists, with maybe a few songs having features with women in them or in the background. Jesus it's pretty bad, I only found one song with a female singer in it, out of 111 albums. EDIT: Seeing as OST's and instrumentals are being mentioned a lot, factor in the composers for them too. I don't know any female composers at all to be honest. 5669

If one of us a capture card we could record gamenights.
If we just edit out the crazy racism and whatever else that might not exactly be favourable on youtube*, it would resemble something along the lines of "X game with the ASDF's" * Spoiler Yes I know you aren't serious with it (I hope...), but it sure would help gain popularity if we edited out every time someone said "nigger". Just a thought. |
