Serious / Re: Plastic-eating fungus discovered

What's the by-product of the fungus?

It doesn't mention it and that makes me slightly doubtful of it being a miracle fungus just yet. If it just excretes oxygen after ingesting plastics, great. But I have a feeling it's not good to be worth mentioning...

If we went by latin naming of plants I'm sure it would fit in.

As long as the latin for Chrysanthemums isn't ridiculous too

Serious / Re: What does being in the military mean to you?
« on: October 27, 2014, 03:43:59 AM »
Depends. I have respect for the military, but it only goes so far when they invade another country and then spout constantly that "they're defending our country". How the fuck is invading a 3rd world country several thousand miles away "defending our country", when the only reason they attack us now is because we invaded?

Plus the huge service funerals. Yes, I get that it's horrible for a father/brother/son to die, but frankly they chose to do an occupation that when doing their actual job (as in, fighting and not just training to fight) that it is likely that they are going to be injured, even fatally. I would be less ranty about this if we were actually defending our country, but refer to the above paragraph regarding that, so imo I think it's just opportunistic propaganda so the average man hates the country we invaded more for a false reason.

TLDR:I get serious wars and respect the military for conlifcts like WWI/II or the Falklands (kind of), but the more recent wars in the Middle East have had the military as a tool of government greed rather than defence of their home country. Hell, despite my dislike of Israel, at least their military is fighting and defending their ground (although "their ground" is debatable).

Doesn't every race do that?

It's just the same as a bully whaling on a nerd, because he tries and is largely successful.

The only reason I could think of what he's proposing as a "dark secret" is that black kids happen to be more impoverished in the US (for various debatable reasons I won't go into) and so there are more black bullies to whale on the others.

Some of these seem a bit loaded just to have an argument. Others could have been easily answered by Google if they really wanted the answer.

But jesus, the first one seems to think changing the entire system is easy as a flick of a switch.

« on: October 25, 2014, 05:39:26 PM »
It doesn't scare me a bit.

It's inevitable except in rare cases where your life get's put into mythology like the ancient Egyptians, Greeks or Romans (and even then, we can't exactly prove it was all true). Billions of people have been on this Earth and we do not care. Those old skulls of homo sapiens, or before that? We don't really care about that particular individual other than the evolutionary bits and what general life was like rather than the individual life.

Seeing as 99.9% of the worlds population doesn't know who you are alive now, it doesn't matter if they knew you when you died afterwards. Personally I think that's worse going out an unknown but then becoming famous after your death, like Van Gogh.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to die famous, or become famous later, but it isn't the be-all and end-all of things.

I think even combined I wouldn't have enough posts to get a custom title here.

Let's see, judging by my average post count here and multiplying by 2 years(as the first year I basically just watched the chaos rather than joining in)

(2x365)x7=5110. Huh. Guess I was wrong, though I'm not sure I posted as often as I do here so this may be an over-estimation. Just add 637 and you've got my total (<5747)
I still saw you around on Bnet quite a bit. Or maybe you're just one of those members that stuck with me.

I stuck to threads interesting to me, so some days there was nothing to post in and I had a gander around some other forums.

Who knows, same interests perhaps? I'm not particularly known for being memorable.

Organising a houseparty with a few houses on my street.

Thinking of hollowing out a pumpkin and using it as a themed-fishbowl.

« on: October 24, 2014, 08:27:36 PM »
I'm sure that paying it won't be any trouble for the UK, but it will certainly leave a dent in the budget.

Aren't we still in some sort of deficit? That's sure to cut the UK some slack.

Not to mention the bailing out of lesser-EU states (not to say they're any worse of course, but Greece and the PI_S don't have a strong economy). It seems that EU is just getting grumpy because we voted "No" for something a year or so ago and got demoted to some sort of lower status in one of the many unknown but important EU councils we have.

(My memory has failed me terribly as to what it was all about; I blame how dull the EU political stuff is sometimes)

News just in, David Cameron says he ain't paying the tab.

No, seriously.

This should be interesting.

They can't really threaten Britain with much.

"Oh, you're going to kick us out of the EU? We were totally gonna do that anyway"

Yeah, it really does seem like quite the 'No frack you' situation. If they go for sanctions then the UK will have even more reason to leave. I've been quite the pro-EU chap for a long time, but they really have some incompetent feckers running the show.

Even though this surcharge isn't anything out of the ordinary, and the UK has previously had rebates through the same system, the sheer tactlessness of the timing staggering.
It would make more sense if they allowed them to pay in installments at the very least, but no, gotta scrounge it all up by December.

Hell, I'm not certain my Uni funding will entirely last me to then. How the hell is D.C. gonna pull 1.7bn out of his arse in that time?

Does lolSapphire still exist? I remember I was on a list of members that weren't able to get in. I called Jay the muslim equivalent of Sarah Jessica Parker.

Yeah it's still there. Took a visit today to post and bide my time to see the injustice. It seems relatively dead though, so I'm guessing it's largely full of 'Mericuhs.

The Flood / Re: What's You're Morning Routine?

Alarm goes off 7:20.
Get up, go downstairs and have cereal/coffee.
Go back upstairs after finishing (~7:40-8:00), grab washing bag and towels and take a shower.
Finish shower, dry off and brush teeth/shave if necessary and go back to room to get dressed (~8:10-8:20)
Pack bag and fill my pockets with necessities (pack of tissues,Wallet,Phone and Keys)
Jump on laptop to check for important e-mails and drop by here until ~8:50
Leave for Geology lectures.

This all changes on weekends where usually I'm up around 12-ish not knowing what happened last night and who I am, and all the above steps get mixed up.

We bounce off each other with the crazy shit we say, and share the same humour. We were there for each other when both of us ended relationships (separate times).

He'll be coming up to visit in a few weeks after I went back home to see him, get pissed and eat kebabs.

Gaming / Re: What do you name your classes?
« on: October 24, 2014, 06:43:50 AM »
I like doing little wordplays on them.

i.e. FAL/Snipers are "Long-Range Loner", Shotguns and SMG's are "Close Quarter Chaos", and my personal favourite on W@W is a Browning MG with an M1 Carbine and a Flamethrower, dubbed the "One-Man Overkill"

There's usually a few variations on it depending if the class is AA or AT, or orientated around Assault Rifles/ Explosives, but you get the idea.

Since going to Uni, apparently I've gotten skinny.

The thing is, I was skinny when I left, so I'm more worried I'm becoming unintentionally (anemic?).

I'm eating chocolate digestives to compensate.
