You're an affluent person who has the choice to do nice things to people even without them asking. And you do them, which means I have a high regard for you.

« on: November 18, 2014, 05:50:24 PM »
At what size does this site have to be until we can have a Mod's "Waaaambulance" section?

We're a bit too small to have it now seeing as virtually everyone knows everyone, but what would be an acceptable number of people to have an (anonymous) "Lol at this excuse"?

I assure you this is a serious question.

The Flood / Re: Why isn't there a pinned Plug.DJ Megathread?
« on: November 18, 2014, 12:25:10 PM »
Because if it's pinned, bumping it doesn't make it noticeable and eventually it will be in the back of everyone's minds like the ad banner on the top of websites.

Besides, I have a thread that I (or anyone else for that matter) can use to get some DJ's as and when we need some.

News / Re: Apply to be a Monitor
« on: November 17, 2014, 04:03:21 PM »
Um...fuck it, I'll apply here, I can't lose if I start with nothing.

I suppose one advantage would not ever being in a heated argument nor holding any grudges with anyone as far as I can tell. No past experience whatsoever in any form of moderation, so that's a drawback.

I couldn't do middle of the day for GMT timezones given I've got Geology lectures most of the day, but I'm on regularly by around 4-5ish and around until around 11-12pm if that's any consideration.

Gaming / Re: Farcry 4, Assassin's creed Unity or GTA V on Ps4?
« on: November 17, 2014, 03:55:23 PM »
Either GTA V or FarCry 4.

FarCry for new content, GTA V for better existing content, plus you could burn days on it in the long term. (Personally FarCry 3 wasn't much fun after the missions and outposts, so I wouldn't expect more from FarCry 4 in terms of replay value.)

Serious / Re: New Study Suggests Genetic Link for Male Homosexuality
« on: November 17, 2014, 01:06:07 PM »
Hmm, that is rather interesting. It would be more interesting if these gay brother were separated at an early age also.

I'm a bit skeptical about this research though - If two brothers turned gay, wouldn't that support that experiences they shared (such as family upbringing, growing up, culture, etc.), rather than genetically are what constitutes their sexuality? It just seems like they got a similar experience at some point, early in their lives which made them to develop a homosexual behavior.*

e.g. My friend and his brother are afraid of spiders because their parent's split and lived with their Mother, who was afraid of spiders. His sister, who lived with her Dad wasn't afraid of spiders because their Dad wasn't either.

*
I realise that the belief that homosexuals are not born gay is for reasons unbeknownst to me, an unpopular one. However I don't really have an opinion on the matter as I don't really know much about homosexuality (apart from the plainly obvious bits), nor do I care whichever it is as it wouldn't affect my judgement of a person. But seeing as I'm pretty much on the fence about this, I thought it would be worth pointing out an alternative viewpoint, which in retrospect seems a bit contradictory to what this research was aiming for.

TLDR?: Deal with it.

Serious / Re: What are the strongest arguments for God?
« on: November 17, 2014, 12:49:17 PM »
Hmm, this is interesting...

I'd have to go for our uniqueness in the known universe. Only planet in the explored and studied universe to have tectonics (at least active), have liquid water, and of course, life.

Sure we may not have discovered life or evidence of ancient life elsewhere yet but given the similarities between our Earth and Mars, the contrast in far more surprising. No life, arid, dead. It seems to me that if life were truly easy to create (i.e. doesn't need an all-powerful superbeing to start it), it would be at least on Mars, or observable on outer planets outside our solar system

Personally I think the final nail in the religious' coffin will be when we discover extra-terrestrial life, regardless of how simple or complex. It'll show us we aren't that unique, that we were created in "God's Image" (Then again, if we meet comparatively intelligent extra-terrestrials with a suspiciously similar religious belief akin to our own, I may decide to become at the very least Agnostic.)

Serious / Re: True randomness: Does it exist?
« on: November 17, 2014, 01:41:10 AM »
I think things can be random, but we are good at picking out patterns. We can make the random follow laws or fit an equation, but only because we've modified the numbers so they appear to make some sense. Think log graphs, or how we can make any sort of data on a graph a law, or make specific equations for different things i.e. Boyle's Laws, Thermodynamics, half-life, etc etc

Serious / Re: Jihadi John injured in airstrike, Cameron wants him alive
« on: November 16, 2014, 03:36:33 PM »
Good move

A person should NEVER be killed or given a sentence without first be given a fair trial. After all, that's western powers decide to invade countries that attack their own citizens, is it not?

He has beheaded at least 5 innocent foreigners in Syria, why the fuck should we give him a fair trial when he didn't offer his victims the same??

Innocent people that were in Syria either volunteering to help or spread awareness about the cruelty that was going. Fuck a fair trial 'Jihadi john' deserves instant death.
So people like Ted Bundy don't deserve fair trials? Everybody deserves a fair trial. I don't care who you are or what you're beliefs are, as they don't matter when it comes to a universal human right

But we already have the evidence of him beheading people, they published it themselves. A trial is clearly not needed with him present when he is obviously beheading bound innocents. He voided his human rights when he violated others'.

I figured out a perfect way

1. take person's IQ
2. take person's post count
3. multiple IQ and post count

In OPs case, it's 0
this might pass as mildly humorous if it made any fucking sense.
Forgot, you have not learned about multiplication and that anything multiplied by 0 is still 0

He has to be at the very least above 20...he's still breathing man, give him credit.

ovelty or for the sake of humour, not much. You could argue a hydroelectric damn or a "water-drop" generator is perpetual, however.

Well, we've got stuff like this:

...but it can't really power anything - you try and stick a generator on that and it'll change the weight, and mess it up.

Then there's the comedic perpetual motion generator:

As for something that's more than a novelty or for the sake of humour, not much. You could argue a hydroelectric damn or a "water-drop" generator is perpetual, however.

The Flood / Re: i really want a custom nameplate
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:09:20 PM »

5125
The first is a little bit understandable, but not worth getting so pissed off over.

But for the second thing? If my course had a year abroad, my parents would be proud I'm experiencing new things which is essentially what Uni is for.

It could be over-attachment for her son (you), but getting pissed at you over that is a tad too far to be just that. Over-protective, over-nurturing perhaps? Need to remember the proper word for this, but it happens a lot where the parents (particularly the mother) don't want the kids to leave, and can go to extreme lengths to stop them as what has happened to one of my friends.

I don't see why this is provoking an outburst now, Tesco's been doing it for years and IIRC still are.

I think if you're part of a scientific team of geniuses who can land a satellite on a comet you should be allowed to wear whatever the fuck you damn well want. Or nothing at all, so long as you aren't disrupting the other scientists.

People who are complaining over this during a monumental event should get the fuck over themselves, jesus.
