The Flood / Re: The Sep7agon Analects« on: December 02, 2014, 02:32:52 AM »
2/12/14 - Everyone not mentioned in the OP gets pissy that they weren't mentioned in the OP.
Including me. A little bit. But seriously, where'd the Meta-Occupation of the Serious board go, and the Meta-Invasion of Flood? 4953
Gaming / Re: Worst Publisher of 2014« on: December 01, 2014, 05:12:47 PM »Ubisoft has become pretty bad as of late. Not sure about Activision, but EA certainly has. Since they were advertising for BF3, they've been flat-out lying to customers, promising them a variety of things, but have consistently not delivered on things such as a spectator mode, or that their super-awesome frostbite engine is built from the ground-up, despite somehow having the exact same bugs as the previous engines. They're also great for saying "Yeah the last game had these bugs and was bad, but THIS game will be better...aaaand it's still shit, broken in the same ways". Then, when the official forums flared up about it all, they closed it down ![]() To be fair I think Ubisoft has fallen off a cliff lately, but I still don't think they've met EA on the way down...yet. 4954

I follow EA's work pretty thoroughly through another offsite (from another game-dev forum, not Bungie), and I'd still say EA are in the shit.
Only reason it's not much as publicised as others is because they've been doing for so long, shit is normal for them. 4956
Serious / Re: My problem with the idea of non-coercion« on: December 01, 2014, 02:54:29 PM »
My only problem with coercion is when it's the go-to method, rather than plan-b.
In a perfect world it would be great if you could communicate and get across what your aims are and why you are doing for (for what, I assume is) the general good of everyone involved. But then I suppose we aren't in a perfect world, are we. I see coercion is used, and in most cases, for the better. I use it myself, though I still find it kinda erring on the grey side of things 4957

Oh, ok. Good for you. sorry if that sounds a little apathetic, I'm just not entirely sure how I should react to this, for me it doesn't really matter what you are, gay, bi, trans, apache helicopter or not.
But good that you start coming out somewhere, I suppose. First Sep7agon, and then....THE WORLD! 4958

Their take on the Rosetta T-shirt "fiasco"
Quote We are all well aware that while oppressing a comet — one of the most distant things the patriarchy has ever oppressed or tried to penetrate — we must remain ever vigilant for oppressive opportunities and Matt Taylor has truly embodied that. We know that the most powerful oppressive thing the average patriarch can do is drape himself in images of attractive women while doing oppressive STEM work, and for this, we applaud Patriarch Taylor. This site is fantastic. 4960
Serious / Re: Is the Israeli State tantamount to Middle Eastern Stability?« on: December 01, 2014, 12:23:10 PM »
I wouldn't say it will, or has exactly stabilised the region.
It was propped up by Western Democracy which is pretty counter-cultural to the East's norm, and not to mention the underlying racism in the area is certainly not helping Israel. I'd say the existence of Israel has to some extent generated unrest. When the '67 war ended, Israel took a bunch of land from everyone as buffer zones, and has only maintained some form of stability by having far superior armies than everyone else. While Israel have every right not to be friendly with their neighbors, maintaining semi-neutral stances with everyone there isn't helping them improve relations either. If they didn't have those, I reckon Israel would have been wiped off the map a while ago, and would have been absorbed into the various countries surrounding it. Not even West Bank - Gaza/Palestine would exist. 4961

Serious / Re: DNA survives critical entry into Earth's atmosphere« on: November 29, 2014, 09:08:42 AM »
Hmm. Interesting, especially considering life *might have* formed on Mars before Earth was settled after the collision with Theia, and meteor impacts could have shot-off stuff from Mars to Earth... (Before Mars "died").
Plus, it always means we could send off DNA to planets too far away for us to reach but life-friendly, potentially start new life ourselves. 4971

The movie, though good, doesn't do the book justice (but then again apparently this book is impossible to put on film - somehow). 4977

Serious / Re: European Union votes in favour of dismantling Google under anti-trust laws« on: November 28, 2014, 07:05:05 AM »I'm not really sure how that is relevant to what I said. Google isn't going to die, nor is that what the EU wants. I merely commented on the misconception that Google is untouchable and will just be able to ignore EU legislation because it's an American company. It doesn't work like that and Google has shown several times before that they are not too keen on jeopardizing their EU market. The only Google service that everyone uses is the Google search engine.>Google has subsidiariesEU is retarded if they think that they have the power to dismantle a corporation based and under jurisdiction of the U.S. Just thought I'd add in, IIRC Google's operations are in the EU are based in Ireland, and as such are subject to EU rulings (if we see any as Flee has pointed out). Google US' operations in California(?) will run as normal. 4979

I don't what to think. Judging by the (poor quality) footage, I can't tell how realistic that toy gun is. But seriously, walking around a park waving it around and pointing at people isn't helping him. He may be 12 but there has to be some common sense there.
As for the police officer, I can see why he had been prep'd in the event of a real gun, but Jesus, he did literally just drive right up to the kid and shoot him. I thought being a good distance away was better for these sort of things? Plus, if he was further away, maybe the cop might not have been so jittery (being so close to a potentially armed person) and it might have happened differently. But there's no point in "What-If"s. All in all, it's a shitty situation. It came out bad for both "sides" here. |
