Serious / Re: Is there something wrong with our culture?« on: December 11, 2014, 04:05:48 PM »
The worst part is we spread it - or at least try. You hear often about how this and that threatens some ancient culture, you even see it now with things like spring up McDonalds in places that just seem surreal and out of place.
Dylan Moran has a good take on it. YouTube 4837

The Flood / Re: University selection« on: December 11, 2014, 06:16:40 AM »So can anyone (Particularly bongs, as I know it applies here) tell me why universities seem to look at your extra curricular activities and what you do outside of school and shit when doing a course? Like, what does it matter if I just play video games with my spare time but I got A's at A level? Surely your grades are more important than your spare time activities, right? Some Universities are just picky. Despite that, it's easy to say a load of bullshit in your Personal Statement and make it seem like you've been doing tons. e.g. I put down I was a prefect in my 6th Form, and that I helped the younger years with stuff (made it sound super important, though I can't exactly remember what I'd said). What I failed to mention was that everyone in my 6th Form was a prefect (we were a tiny 6th Form), and that my helping people was keeping the canteen doors open at lunch until Christmas, where we stopped and no-one gave a shit because no-one did it anyway. It wasn't exactly a lie, it was just withholding the details. You went once to a society meeting or something? Say you went to it. You volunteered for a few weeks somewhere? You volunteered. 4844

The only notable difference I have seen between Fifa 2003 (PS1) and Fifa 2013 (Xbox) was the graphics and the AI weren't so retarded. Oh, and all the players were different. And the cost for the latter was far higher brand new...
You could argue CoD has been very similar over the same time period, and I'd generally agree with that too. Battlefield has definitely changed since it's early beginnings, although I think for the worse as it's now in-line with CoD. As for AC, I've never bought any myself but my brother has all of the ones up to current-gen (AC3, I think?), and while they have vastly improved from AC1... I wouldn't warrant paying full price for those changes, expecially between AC2 and Brotherhood/Revelations - they could easily have been £20 DLC rather than a £40-50 standalone. 4849

I think those who leave to a new colony planet are essentially in control of themselves. We'd be too far away to just send soldiers every time a riot or whatever breaks out on another planet of us.
They'd set up, startup a new government probably with it's own take on politics and all that, and then expand from there for the rest of the planet as the colonists multiply. If we ever met other life on the way, it depends on what the stance is towards this discovery (either fear, scientific interest, or both), and we'd probably kill one and start dissecting the shit out it if it isn't the most intelligent of life. This would happen if we were a united humanity or not. 4854

Serious / Re: Would you end the Internet?« on: December 09, 2014, 03:18:38 PM »
No. Communication is pretty big component of humans, and cutting it off would be detrimental to that.
Collaborated research would struggle to get through, global business would grind to get to a halt, and news coverage wouldn't be so instant. Also, my porn. You can't just take that away too. 4858
Serious / Re: Learning to code from a jail cell« on: December 09, 2014, 03:00:40 PM »It's not so much a flaw or a mistake to try and get people to straighten up their act in prison. Because some people can straighten out. But the fact that simply being in prison grants you access to those resources where people who aren't in prison have to struggle and fight every step of the way means that something is fucked. I dunno exactly... They're gonna have a hard time with someone hiring them to give them a decent wage, and if they had to consider paying back in student loans they might well just go back to crime to pay for it if the education they gained gets them nowhere. Put it this way; two candidates for a job, both are equally qualified and perfect for the job, You check the CRB, and you find one had a stint in the joint for drug use, a violent crime or something a few years back. Would you be inclined to hire them? Most wouldn't, even if they were proficient at what they learned. 4859
