Earth: Portrait of a Planet.
More of a guidebook-bible for first year geologists rather than a book to recline and enjoy, but still interesting nonetheless.

Christmas day 2 years ago I got Halo ODST. It was my first Halo, and I ended up wandering around Mombasa at night trying to figure out what the hell was going on. After 15 minutes of getting lost and not figuring out what to do other than wander around, I turned it off, and went back to checking out my other presents.
I didn't play it again until summer this year, completed it in a few hours over 3 days. It wasn't bad, it was just so confusing at the time that I was practically averse to it.

Because I don't like anime. Don't care if you watch it or not, I'm just not interested.

Its also the most OP gun in any game its in too for some reason.
In BF3 they tend to use the real characteristics of the real steel guns (in this case it had a 1000rpm rate of fire which makes for the fastest time to kill of any rifle in the game).
In BF3 it was balanced out by having terrible ironsights and a pretty unpredictable recoil, not to mention a tad smaller clip which combined with the high RPM (which they later lowered I believe to 800?) so if you were attacking two people at once you could run out before you kill them both.

World at War was the best, the loadouts were superb, maps were well designed, the story mode was very good and the controls were genuinely brilliant-the sharpness of black ops and the later CoDs but with the quality of CoD4
Plus actual gibs...and multiplayer tanks... only downside was no host migration (but CoD 4 had the same problem), and how easy the killstreaks could stack (if you called Dogs after you'd respawned, you could get the killstreaks again from those kills without shooting a round.)

And do you reeeaaaally want to see what people's skeletons look like that badly? <.<
C'mon, Techpriest Santa should know how to give me eyes that can see through the thickness of wool without giving me meatbag cancer. And I can just totally pass them off as "NightVision Goggles"...

I don't like looking in mirrors.
Not that I hate myself or anything, I just don't like my face very much. It seems my default expression is one of being "not all there".
School photos are terrible too, because I can't just smile on request so it looks bad. I prefer photos of me where I'm practically caught off guard by the camera, so it catches my genuine smile and happiness without a thought for a camera or how it looks.

Hearing your father speak of how pathetic you are when he believes you're sleeping to your other guardians is a sure-fire confidence booster. Especially when you're eight.
Jesus, that sounds horrible. May I ask does he know you heard this later on?
Even if he had, it probably wouldn't have mattered. He wasn't a good person. I lived with him, my step mother, and my half siblings when I wasn't living with my mother, and my step mom left him one day, taking the kids. I saw my dad once after that at a Blockbuster a few years ago. I didn't say anything. I don't care about him.
Fair enough. I suppose it's best left to your past.

I'm not very socially awkward. It's hard getting to know new people as fast as others do, but I can still make friends by the end of the day (or the night if it's at a party).
It's just the start. The start where you know no-one is the worst, because I act like even sitting next to some stranger may be taken as impolite by invading their space, so I seclude myself in a corner until I get a bearing, or if someone else sits next to me and I get to know them by them coming to me. It's even worse with the opposite sex to be honest. Fate drives how I know people, not me. It certainly makes me friends (and deeper relations) pretty well so far, so it's not like I have to do much in the way of intruding on someone to introduce myself.
But I wouldn't turn down an invitation to a drink. It wouldn't exactly lead to promiscuous sex (because, of course, every meet-up results in crazy sex afterwards... /s), and you are in control of your drink, so you know when enough is enough to have a good time.

They say " Hell is other people", so I wanna hear some anecdotal evidence for it. My own story which is ongoing is quite long, so I'mma spoiler it. Spoiler My housemate is a strung-out sociopath. On the second day of moving in, weeks after everybody else after moving from another residence (I assume they kicked her out of there), she holds a massive party in her room with randoms strangers until 10am the next morning, she then fucks one around 1pm, which was rather a rude awakening after being unable to sleep for the night and repeatedly telling them to STFU, and beheaded a pigeon by ripping it's head off. She showed us it's corpse saying " Isn't it cute?". We tried to get her kicked out after that but for some fucking reason the admin won't get around to it... She's constantly high (not that I think it's all bad, but all the fucking time?), constantly bitches about all of us, to all of us, complains about mess when she's made most of it, and seems to think we're all terrible people because we've down nothing to help impoverished Africans... compared to the fuck tons of nothing she's done for them. /rant I've shared mine, so it's time to share yours! Could be about a past/current roommate, a person you met on your travels, some event you experienced with an asshole at the centre of it, anything. Conversely, you could say your best experience with people. Either or, one or both is good.

I'm happy to share that today I submitted my final assignment for my undergraduate degree (B.S.E. in Industrial Engineering at Arizona State University).
Referring to my previous thread about my thesis, I completed my entire honors thesis in a single night and defended it this afternoon. I'm not sure whether I'm proud or embarrassed about writing the entire thing in one evening, but taking 21 credits in your final year, including a senior design project, was a terrible idea.
I'm pretty excited it's over. Next week is graduation, commissioning into the Navy (flight school sometime in the spring), and getting married. Shit's crazy.
Anyways, congratulations to the folks wrapping up their semesters with hopefully passing grades!
Congratulations! Any tips? I got a roommate who's on the Bachelor's Engineering course as a first year.

It was a standard 13-year-old username, with my birth year on it and everything.
However, when I created an account for something (can't remember what it was, was ages ago), it had a character limit and it cut off the "95" without my knowledge. Now I use 19 as a lucky number, and here I just took off the 19 and I'm left with SuperIrish.
On Steam me and my brother do related usernames, so I got GreenNineteen and he's got BlueTwentyTwo. I might my name here to that when it's a bit more fitting.

Using that GPA calculator thing with 7A's, 2B's and 2C's at GCSE (that's highschool grades, right?), I had at that time 3.45
What the fuck is a GPA, anyways?
grade point average
Ah right. Checked it again with my A-Level results... An A and 3 C's got me 2.50, which I'm guessing is average/crap.

Overhyping games gives you a really high expectation of the final product. Then when it's released, it's sucky.
Think Destiny, and everytime a CoD or BF is hyped all over the everywhere. The only game I think was hyped to general expectations and delivered well was GTA V, and that only failed on giving online heists (which everyone's knickers are in a twist about...) Older ones would be Borderlands, seeing as that had TV ads and stuff knocking around and it got a good reception from most people.
Underhyping, while not expanding your audience very well are usually better games. I think of the Metro series in this regard, that was a marvelous game and I'd virtually never heard about it from anywhere. Early Minecraft had essentially no advertising until it had become popular and was being talked about, and now look at it, one of the most bought games of all time.

Us, and Space hazards.
Meteorite impacts, intense solar flares, quasar bursts, virtually everything outside of Earth is dangerous.

When it says "Every officer in Shetland was called to the incident", bear in mind this place is a fucking tiny island, with a population on par with a very small town: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShetlandAnd it's good that they dealt with this properly. Dunno what the outcome would've been if he'd actually fired the thing at them (though by then the police would realise it wasn't a "real" gun and just rush him), but look at that 'mericah's, he isn't dead! No deaths, no impending riots, and the kid might actually get some psychological help. This is easily the best outcome possible for such a scenario.

Jesus fucking Christ somebody give that girl a 2 large pizzas, the biggest hamburger you can find, and a large Root Beer
You'd probably kill her from over-nutrition (whatever the sciencey name is for the reason we couldn't feed Holocaust victims straight away...). She doesn't even look real. I'm amazed humans can survive in such a state, and she certainly seems content being in such a poor condition, but my god that is depressing.

[I have the same strength and weaknesses as OP apparently] I'm not sure I agree with all of it, particularly the coldness I'm supposed to have - I'm serious, but I'm not steely-eyed with spock levels of logic.

Only problem is the timezones, so I rarely see anyone.
