Could you go and tell your parents that you've given out your address to people you don't know particularly well on the internet?

The wrath of parents isn't truly horrible, I'll admit, but it still sucks.
i've consented with my family ages ago

if i didn't receive their okay years ago, things would be different

I admire the forward thinking, though I still think overall it's a stupid idea.

Is there anywhere on the internet where you wouldn't be willing to put your address? Dark/Deep web, stuff like that.

I detect a hint of sarcasm there.
yes, people can abuse the info

i just don't see any reason to care so much

the chances of anything truly horrible happening are so minute it's barely worth discussing

That's... really not smart, man.

It's better to not disclose your location to people you barely know, on the internet, than to do the complete opposite and risk something serious happening. I mean I'm happy to say I'm in Cardiff right now, but that's about as specific as your gonna get, giving a specific address is just asking for trouble.

What's your take on it?

That it's just a story to explain something we couldn't at the time.

I'm not going to ridicule it, it's not like we knew anything at all about how the Earth or anything really came to be before the 19th century. It was just that religion was the most intelligent institution at the time and that's what they came up with to explain our existence.

A "science before science", if you will.

I'm a loser, baby, so why don't ya kill me...
(Double-barrel buckshot)

-Beck, Loser

I've been, drifting along,
on the same, stale old shoes.
Loose ends, tying a noose
in the back, of my mind.

-Beck, Jackass

I don't know why they are my favourite, they've just stuck as easy to know lyrics for no particular reason.

The Flood / Re: what are some movies you never get tired of?

Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
Grand Budapest Hotel
Forrest Gump
Full Metal Jacket
Bladerunner
All of the Cornetto Trilogy
Inception
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

I would gladly watch any of these films again within a month of seeing them.

What is genuine traditional bonger food anyhow?

I've lived in bongland all my life and I haven't seen anything like that before. I've never even heard of it.
It's called stargazy pie, something the cornish goblin creatures like to eat.

I don't think kinder realises that there are several kinds of sub-human/cross breeds that lurk in the dark places of the british isles.
In the north you have the Badger-Human hybrids, who eat pies.
In cornwall you have the Cornish Goblins, who eat stargazy pie and other weird shit like that. Also babies.
The welsh literally just survive off leeks and ham an cheese toahsties. (Say that singsongy like)
The irish eat raw potatoes.
The scots eat offal as a delicacy and are secretly being made into morbidly obese bloaters by the tories to make sure that they can never win against an english army.
Essex should probably be sawn off and sent to either florida or france. I think they eat tanning products or bucketloads of carrots.
Oh and the West Country cuisine is basically no better than any of the above.

You forgot the northern irish who eat eachother and the upper class who drink the blood of new borns.

Adding on the Welsh eat the same lambs they fuck.

Yep, the British Isles essentially takes part in a national contest of who can eat the weirdest stuff that is still  just somehow edible.

Google Images of something I like (TV or film character/actor, game character) then modify it with GIMP.

An example would be my avatar right now. This guy don't exist with a green shirt if you searched "Mark Lilly" anywhere.
Plus Ryle did an MLG makeover thread, and well I couldn't turn that down...

4694
I think it's a stupid reason to refuse treatment when 85% success rate is pretty fucking good odds to turn down (though I don't know if this type of cancer has a high risk of re-occurring, so that might be an influence in their decision), but it's not really fair for the government to do that either.

With what information has been given however I'm more supportive of government involvement in this case. I really wanna know why she would refuse it, if it's just because "I feel bad when I have chemo", well no shit it's chemo, but being dead for not having the treatment is far worse.

I recall the US threw a fit over the plans of a mosque being built on the grounds of the Twin Towers, which is clearly discriminatory over the fact that the only similarity between the terrorists and the mosque is religious belief (It's not a fucking "terrorist centre", jesus). Those just come to mind off the top of my head.

That's the worst idea to have ever been suggested. Sorry I try to remove all prejudice and hate from my thoughts but I'd throw a fit over a mosque being built on ground zero too.

Fair enough, but I still don't understand why it's such an issue.

And thanks Max for the clarification. Now I really don't get why it was an issue.

Serious / Re: Why I choose to support Israel over Hamas

Okay, but it's not a reason which counts against the Israelis, and nor does it justify the anti-Semitism that we saw as early as 1920 in the Nebi Musa riots.

Seeing as everyone but Jews were antisemitic in the early 20th Century, it doesn't make them any worse than anyone else at that time either.

I remember earlier you mentioned in 1917 Russia Tsar Nicholas II was referencing some falsified text just to make up a reason to hate Jews...

Even when the Nazi's were being increasingly hostile to Jews once they took power (and earlier there were various reasons made up why Germany failed in WW1 - Traitorous Jews being one of them), Britain (and other European countries) shut it's doors to the vast majority of Jews leaving before the war. Then when the UN decided to do something after witnessing the aftermath of WW2 and the Holocaust, Britain piped up with it's offer of IIRC some place in Sub Saharan Africa, or a chunk of Palestine.

I'm not debating that the Muslim's antisemitism was justified at all then - but it was hardly them alone at the time.

The Flood / Re: Endings of things that you actually enjoyed.
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:06:48 PM »
Film and TV wise I can think of a few.

Futurama (they apparently have 3 endings, seeing as they were cancelled so damn often...), Breaking Bad, Trainspotting, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (I should get around to reading the book too), Platoon, Grand Budapest Hotel, No Country for Old Men, Pulp Fiction... there's probably more but I can't remember more right now. Pretty much the film has to have a good ending for me to like it anyway, so most films I like fit here.

As for books, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, On the Road, and a few of Clive Cussler's books (some are just a bit too ridiculously happy an ending). 1984 though depressing an ending, it did it well that I wasn't unhappy, plus it left me thinking more about it afterwards which is a good sign for me.
there's only one real "ending" to futurama, to my knowledge, and that's the actual final episode

True, though because of the 2 cancellations they had previously, those were (at the time) final episodes also.

Serious / Re: Why I choose to support Israel over Hamas
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:32:19 AM »

I sincerely doubt that.

I think the real reason they haven't annexed Gaza yet is because of the global condemnation and sanctions Israel would receive as a result. Not to mention a good portion of Palestinians support Hamas' cause anyway, making it an exercise in futility.

True, but seeing as Israel don't really give more than one fuck what the UN condemns at the moment with the civilian casualties coming out of Gaza, I'm not so sure would they care afterwards if they annexed it. America would still back them anyway.

I wouldn't say oppressed, far from it compared to many places in the world:
-Allowed places of worship here
-Allowed to practice their religion freely in public
-Allowed to protest about their religious issues (e.g. That girl can say that stuff without threat of execution, or the more extreme rallies calling for Shia law in the UK...)
-Religious inclusive businesses (Halal meats, etc)
-Allowed to hold a position of power in the UK. (Granted there's not many, but there's certainly nothing preventing them in the same way I could hold office)
-Given certain circumstances, are allowed asylum here.
Name one country short of Israel, NK, or China where they can't do those things (and they can do most of those in China).

Why can't I use those countries? Oh, because they actually do restrict those things? Ok.

Anywho, I could still mention some of the Middle Eastern countries, depending on which sect (Shia or Sunni, or Allawhite) is in charge. Also, France has banned religious attire in public and/or government property, though that includes christian symbolism also. I recall the US threw a fit over the plans of a mosque being built on the grounds of the Twin Towers, which is clearly discriminatory over the fact that the only similarity between the terrorists and the mosque is religious belief (It's not a fucking "terrorist centre", jesus). Not to mention that there are 1 million Arabs that currently live in Israel, so the false narrative of this fascistic xenophobic state that Israel is constantly painted out to be is quite frankly disingenuous and fallacious.

I dunno...

Last year, a grand total of 1 million Syrian refugees went to Lebanon, a further 750,000 going to Turkey, both of these countries bordering Syria since the civil war began. It should be noted that Lebanon already has ~950,000 Palestinian refugees since the war of '67. Israel, another neighbor to Syria which was better suited to handle an influx of refugees at this scale took a grand total of...4. IIRC, 3 were wounded, and after receiving treatment were all sent back into Syria.

Also, If Israel really wanted to annex Gaza and the West Bank, they could with ease in military terms. There are some intelligent (maybe high ranking officials? I can't remember very well) that claim the reason they haven't yet is solely because if they did, they'd have to make them Israeli citizens, and that would mean Israel would no longer be a Jewish State, as Muslims would outnumber them (as well as the obvious fears of a coup from them as a result).
I'd love to give a source on this, but my memory has failed me once again. It was I believe a BBC documentary, I think Panorama from early 2014/2013.

Serious / Re: What causes Near-Death Experiences
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:06:51 AM »
I've only got anecdotes to discuss, so here goes...

Spoiler
Technically, my mother died for a short period when giving birth to me. Despite receiving some pain relievers that supposedly knocked her out cold, she remembers hearing nurses saying something along the lines of "Shit, do CPR", and feeling them pushing on her chest to restart her heart (she doesn't recall the pain, though after recovering later she was covered in bruises by this). She also recalls being given last rites by a Catholic Priest which was pretty traumatising for her, especially seeing as when my father was asked about this prior, he refused it for this exact reason (that she possibly could be still alive and would know they essentially "gave-up"). She was otherwise calm throughout this experience (though fully aware that she was pretty much declared dead), no physical feelings, and no "light at the end of a tunnel" - just darkness.

But that's the confusing bit. Technically, she was supposed to be dead at this point, and even if alive, was also inoculated... the presence of a priest was confirmed later on when my mother told my father afterwards and he confronted the hospital about it. I dunno, perhaps the Dr. fucked up on the dose on the knock-out drugs, and also fucked up on the death diagnosis, but it seems unlikely that both could have happened.

I don't know why we have near-death experiences, though these hypotheses make sense, almost as if the brain was doing a last-ditch attempt at remaining alive, sort of how before going unconscious from strangulation or drowning people can suddenly gain a "boost" to fight for their survival.

But there are many prejudiced people here of anybody Arab-looking (or even  as far as just not being White British), though that is fault of them reading papers like The Sun and freaking out over terrorism. Noteworthy though, minorities in general are more likely to be stopped and searched by police, according to a recent survey of the Met. Police in London, but that doesn't mean crimes reported by minorities are ignored, or that more prosecutions occur of minorities than say...America.

But the phone layout is nice.
Yeah, have you had the problem of your profile picture not rendering in the correct spot?

I get that too on my mobile (through Google Chrome) when I load up a new page, though it moves back to the title bar when I move a thread up or down. Otherwise this update is better for my phone than the last layout.

Serious / Re: Let's be honest, humans are shit parents
« on: January 05, 2015, 10:32:26 AM »
"Parents - They fuck you up"

I guess nurture overcomes nature in this case. If a child has a bad parent, they are more likely to be bad themselves when they have children (or be over-caring and cushion their child if it bounces back).

Then again, you can get bad children in a good family simply because of genes - My aunt was the good kid from a crazy family, met my Uncle, and now their daughter is off the rails crazy, despite the parents being good and caring.

The same applies to fears and other habits as well. E.g. a divorced family can have children afraid of spiders with the mother, and fearless children with the father.

4708
I'm about as supportive as this as I am for plastic surgery and botox stuff - They can do it if they want to, but they can live with the potential irreversible consequences of it (and it kinda looks shitty, especially regarding botox).
