Uh... no.

Once, but never again.

Shortly after the Industrial Revolution.

Create the Bessemer Converter before the original inventors, sell the patent to America for £250,000 then-money, then maybe have travel around the wild parts staking my claim in Texas oil fields.

After that, fund an Irish revolution around the time after the Act of Union (1800) with my oil money and have an independent Republic ~140 years earlier than expected (and the complete country so there isn't any of that Catholic vs Protestant nonsense)

Odd, I consider it the best (though marginally - I love them all).

But then again it was released around the time of me entering legal drinking age, so I that may have influenced my decision somewhat...

Serious / Re: Are we really free to protest?
« on: February 10, 2015, 06:28:01 PM »
Depends on what.

I mean you can protest about immigration in a serious manner (ala UKIP), but as soon as you go more extreme and start to incite racism and hate speech, you're infringing on another's rights (ala EDL or skinheads), and so you can't.

...or you could do the retarded thing like break local shops and loot them and just be an inconvenience/arsehole.

There's also the effectiveness of said protest. Even if you protested in a relatively polite and progressive manner, you can just be ignored and the system can carry on regardless of what you think (unless you get some maaaajor backing, and I mean on the scale of millions/hundred-millions).

Hmm interesting.

I'll stick to the more researched and accepted theory for the creation Universe for now, but if this picks up more research and scientific backing then fair enough, although that's going to fuck up a lot of other widely accepted theories.

Spoiler
Would Planck's constant be affected for example, considering theoretically the earliest time you can get to the creation of the Universe is 6.6x10^-34s using that. I may not have remembered this well, it was a while ago from my A Level Physics teacher.

That ONE old man defending his family in a month of violent shooting is worth it to me.

Here's what I disagree on, but fair enough. Freedom to defend yourself is fine, but concealment of certain defences, and when they can be used for other, more nefarious purposes it just goes too far for me.

You guys always focus on how people shoot each other, but never care about the stories of people who defend themselves and their families.

Find some stats showing that the cases of the uses of guns for home/personal defence outweigh the death/murder rate for gun related incidents, and you might have a point.

A. "Pain is temporary. Pride is forever."

After the scenario in B I doubt I'd have any of the latter. And my arse would hurt.

Probs last year.

All the assholes before 6th Form had left, made new friends (inc. my then-future first girlfriend), strengthened my existing friendships, and the future looked bright for Uni.

Shame that future now isn't as bright as I'd hoped then, but it's still pretty damn good. Still got another ~80 years to have a better one.

4423
Damn.

I kinda agree with abortion when necessary and I mean very serious reasons, but this is just ridiculous if it's true. If a husband wanted his wife to abort their child because their child was a daughter, there would be outrage (and depending on certain cultures and in history, this has/does happen which also is terrible).

How did she justify it to the doctors though? I'm not sure, but it does seem unlikely they'd carry out such a procedure if this was the sole reason given.

On another note, this article is totally biased. It starts off about some past experience this woman has which doesn't seem related to the headline, and just make the reader dislike her before they even get to the bit about the actual story.

it's almost impossible to get one in Britain unless you're seriously connected

...because the sale of guns are heavily restricted here.

And seriously, you can't say allowing guns here wouldn't mean they reach the hands of criminals if they wanted them. You're assuming a perfect system of regulation which is highly unlikely at best.

You keep dodging the point. What are you going to against four or maybe even more thugs with knives? Fight? Unless you're some sort of martial arts master, you don't have a chance. Run? There's a good chance they'll catch you.

How about you stand your ground instead.

That argument still applies to guns. What are you going to do against 4 guys with guns? pull the gun out and shoot all 4 before they shoot you?

Allowing ccw's and therefore guns in general just makes them more widespread. Criminals aren't stupid, if civillians ate allowed guns to defend themselves, criminals will get them too, as well as weapons not available to a law abiding citizen.

I'd have to go with ArmyMen: Lock n Load or World At War.

Massive time-gap between the two, didn't really have war games between my PS1 and '360.

So having no stick at all solves the problem?

Criminals aren't going anywhere. Running from them won't accomplish anything.

Nor has giving concealed weapons to everyone helped, and now you deal with misfires and accidents which aren't avoidable either.

I recall a recent story about a child reaching into his mothers handbag for an ipod and accidentally firing the gun inside, hitting the mother and father. Fortunately the shot wasn't lethal, but there's countless stories of it ending badly.

At least with a knife accidents are less likely, and secondly I'm more inclined to fight an assailant brandishing a knife than a gun and I would argue far easier to do so.

NO
ON
Why not?

I would feel a lot less safe walking down the street knowing that anyone could have a ranged weapon on their person that I can't even acknowledge.
But you feel safe walking around unarmed past a group of thugs?

No, because I can just walk to the other side of the street. Can't do that I someone has a ranged weapon.
>implying they can't follow you

Who knew thugs were crippled?
>Implying we can't run.

I'll have you know we aren't all confined to mobility scooters.

But to get back to the topic, no. To have limitations on the carrying of knives over 7 inches (IIRC) without a valid reason, but allowing weapons far more dangerous to be concealed by anyone is just retarded.
LOL

What're you gonna do if they're near your bus stop? Hide in the bushes and run to the bus when it gets there?

You guys seriously need to grow a pair of balls.

You gonna belittle the joke more, or refute my actual point?
How about you explain why it's dangerous for someone to carry a pistol to defend themselves?

Because getting a bigger stick than the other guy's doesn't fix the problem, it makes it worse.

An overall unbalance is bad, but local unbalances are good.

e.g. A one sided map is bad, but a map with various flanking routes (each being one sided to one or the other team if a conflict arose there) is better.

Same applies to weapons and vehicles. One team has better tanks, the other team has better AT equipment. One team with a great SMG is balanced by the other team having a better long range rifle, that sorta thing.

So yeah, an overall imbalance is pretty crappy and fun for only the victors, but localised imbalances or class-based ones make it a more enjoyable fight.

No.

It kinda sucks. Don't want to lose it to some random person I barely know, but I can't lose it to the people I do know. Oh well, I've been in Uni less than 6 months and I've already done more in that time than the 18 years before, so it's only a matter of time.

I'm not bothering.

MHQ has already followed it's development long enough for me to know it's shite. So far the predictions and criticisms were correct.
