Gaming / Re: Jesus Christ, why is the Witcher's autosave so fucked?
« on: June 04, 2015, 08:38:08 AM »
But I digress, this wouldn't have been an issue to me if the game was actually competent enough in autosaving me during a quest.

Maybe if you weren't incompetent and manually saved in the first place, or hell, the second time after you died the first time at a convenient point you wouldn't be in this mess reliving 2-3 hours of the quest again....again.

The failings of an autosave system aren't the reason you have to go back twice. It's fair enough if you forgot or something the first time, but you realised the autosave system sucked, and relied on it the second time?

I'd assume it would have to be similar to how they calculate if you were drinking under the influence, i.e. breathalyser/blood test and if it's over 0.35 (for the UK, can't remember the units), you're "drunk".

Though I can see that being an obstacle if you were about to have sex, when suddenly...
"Hang on a moment, could you breathe into this for 10 seconds? I wanna be sure I'm not being raped/raping you."

Both of those scenarios mentioned are legally grey areas, but in reality both would probably favour the female in court (if straight sex is going on here). It really seems to be based on the word of mouth when really that shouldn't be the case.

Spoiler
I came into such a problem myself at a party. I could have had sex if I'd obliged, but the girl was completely wasted whereas I, while also drunk, was still "in control". I refused on principle, and that seems to have been to the right path to go down as the next day she had no memory of the events even beforehand.

What would (you?) do to accomplish this?

Staying out of the way of dangerous people and "vault politics" would be a start.

Cheat is not going to have enough money to build a vault that can fit Kinder in it.
I thought he was the door to the vault...

This "vault" is essentially Kinder in front of Cheat's house facing the blast.

While watching the poor farmers work the land, he notices one area has far better produce. He ask's the landowner 'ere, how'd you do that? to which a simple reply is given: "I spins 'em 'round I do and put cow shit on 'em". Dan is speechless, but thinks carefully about what he'd said.

His mind is then drawn to attention by the completion of the tradevessels, and eager to figure out what's goung on in the world sends one to England, Spain and Sweden, each laiden with the assets of the country as a gift of friendship. Unfortunately, it's only Peat 'n' Wheat, but Dan will figure out what we can get out of this ground stuff for layer trades. While pondering about this, one crazy lad named Brendan who insists he's a Saint or something steals an empty one in hopes of finding new lands. Dan is angered by this, but patiently awaits his response...if he comes back. Then Dan remembers that Germany's recently published "map" thing is a bit muddled on where Ireland is, so now he's grumpy again

What's actually happening:
-Improved agricultural methods have increased food production and reduced the likelihood of over farming.
-Trade ships completed
-Extending diplomatic relations to ENGLAND, SWEDEN & SPAIN.
-St. Brendan intends to find the new world (America), expecting a response in 3 years' time.
-Initial research into MINING. Results expected soon-ish, when Dan leaves the pub.
-Census of population in 2 years.
-TBLOCKS, YOU DUN FUCKED UP THE MAP

Stats for me to keep track of:
-996 dormant trade vessels
-15,000 active service personnel
-500,00 population (as of pg 7)

yeah at that point though... even if it was safe to go outside I'd be afraid of being hunted down.
no, there would be a white knight who would arise from the feral crowd and defend your honor from the other sep7a-ghouls. kinda like being the main character of a weird fetish-porn version of a fallout game but, you get the idea.

i wonder who the white knight would be ::)

Eh, I reckon those who did would get steamrolled preeeeetty quickly.

As for myself, I'd be more focused on self preservation than this stuff.

Telling a friend that may be hiding depression to stay off the internet, a huge means of escape for those people, is incredibly insensitive and cruel.

A better idea would be to stay away from negative areas of the internet. I mean, with the knowledge you have of this place (for example), why would you endure such toxicity here when you could temporarily hang out in someplace more reasonable, or at least limiting your interactions here to PM's with trusted people here?

I'm interested to see what people can identify of the thing shown shortly after the deathclaw/protectotron bit >.>
Looked like a crab of some sort.

Honestly I thought it was a non-bipedal Mirelurk type thing.
Ahh now that would make sense.
How they're going to explain the change from them is going to be a bit weird...

Fallout 3's Survival Guide nails them down as a radiated successor to the turtles IIRC though that largely is towards to the King's rather than the normal 'lurks, while in FNV the only 'lurks in-game are Lakelurks (a greener reskinned Mirelurk King from Fallout 3).

How they changed to a 4/6 legged stance in under a 500 mile distance is beyond me, unless they are actually some totally new unrelated creature.

The second someone mentions reproducing the human race, instantly all the males of this site would be fighting each other for it.What happens then is either we end killing them by accident/in malice, and the remaining survivors would die out.

Or...Cheat would probably implement some sort of aptitude test to see who gets what (to put that nicely...)

I don't want to sound mean, cuz the trailer is cool, but could someone actually explain to me how Fallout is appealing? I want to get into it. I REALLY want to, but I just can't really do it and I want a reason to play it.

The modern ones, I assume? Decent shooter mechanics with the fun addition of limb damage and a sort of turn-based strategy where you can freeze events for a period of time to aim or set up a set of shots, similar to Red Dead Redemption. It has a really unique environment and atmosphere, as well as a compelling backstory.
I don't like the gunplay, is the thing. I have about 9~ hours in Fallout 3 and I just...couldn't get into it. That's over a few saves, too.
Is there a mod to remove guns? >_>

It's an FPS. If you don't like shooters, or it's particular style, you're not going to like Fallout.
The thing is I LOVE shooters, I just can't get into fallout. the mechanics for shooting feel...weird.
The lack of actual iron sights might be the problem, particularly since you only played Fallout 3. If on PC, there's a mod for that, if on console...buy F:NV. As much as I love Fallout 3 and it's what brought me to this point, NV is definitely the better of the two (and it has iron sights).

Medieval economies are fundamentally Malthusian, if you don't make suitable investments in agriculture then your population will be forced down to subsistence-level farming until its number reduces or agricultural output increases.

You coulda just said I need to bolster my food production, but I've incorporated that as mentioned in the point below. I'll get down to the improving agricultural methods further down the line, hence why I've got the 5 page deadline.

Assuming the 'Mericans get busy in the night I'll going afk from here-on, and will address whatever shit arises when I return.

I may be preemptive about it, but...

I VERY MUCH FUCKING LIKED IT

Plus, no '360 or PS3 versions which (hopefully) means not a lot is holding it back. Also, no overpowering filters on anything (so far) like Fallout 3 and NV had all the time/ in certain areas.

Other notable shit:
1:44 - New looking Protect-tron looks like a 60's bot:
Spoiler
1:45 - Is that Mirelurk NOT bipedal?
2:18 - MAHOOSIVE modifications available, for armour and weapons (judging by the random stuff surrounding that laser rifle on the wall including some sort of stock on the far left)
Possible hints of Enclave presence around what with Vertibirds and Eyebot, but as the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 and FNV in general show it might be stolen/modified tech.

Visually it seems more in-tune with the older Fallouts - Vertibirds, T-XXx armour look more rounded and bubbly, deathclaw waaay more hunched back with curved horns:
Spoiler

Dan O'Connell arises from his slumber, realising he may have to ease off on the Guinness what with 7 years of his tenure all a hazy blur. Thankfully, no riots, everyone seems to be where they are, including himself, so he's clearly being doing well.

Ireland wishes to extend trade routes with Spain and England, right after ol' Danny shouts at some people to build cargo boats to trade...("What the hell do we trade? Oh yeah, Peat and Wheat")...food and fuel. Excesses of course, Ireland needs it for it's rising population. Dan announces to his people "Be good Catholics, and make Mary and Jesus proud. Have LOTS of children! Also, grow more food, and that sorta thing".

What's actually happening:
-Construction of 500 tradeships underway
-Initiation of talks with neighboring countries England and Spain (Dan had one look at Wales and thought "Nah" for the time being) for trade, perhaps further talks if necessary.
-Population boost, expected to reach 1 million in 10 years (If food production rises to support it)
-Rising production of food, possible threatening of fish stocks and over farming if left unhindered for 5 years.

I wonder, if the "institute.jpg" found when you inspect elements on the page is the hint towards the one in Boston, we might get to see Androids.

And I mean, proper ones I hope with things on par of terminator/those techpriest people that Psy knows/is, not just that smarmy old guy saying "Yeah, he's an Android, fake blood and guts and shit". Also, The Institute itself. Apparently unparalleled technology to those found in the waste, even to the BoS, perhaps even the Enclave/Remnants? Think of the weapons, armor, and other stuff that F:NV touched on like that New Vegas clinic which gave augmentations.

One thing I might not like, is the accents. I may not have massive knowledge of American accents but I know Boston ones are going to be two-kinds-of-crap in the game. Either you have a "good" Boston accent which sounds bad, or you have a bad Boston accent, which sounds bad.

I see no point in them.

That said, seeing as they are pointless I see no reason to get rid of them.

Although I do hate how the media clamour over them when they do anything that I dunno, normal people do like getting married, having children and dying. That isn't exactly their fault, but the fact the public show high esteem for these now powerless people so the media still shovel royalty shite on the news is baffling to me.

Quick question, will there be external environmental or social/political factors involved?

E.g. 848 pages from now I suffer from a famine, France suffers from an overthrow of it's elite 896 pages from now, Cromwell decides to ban fun in 500 pages, the seas around Ireland and Britain are treacherous for ships 500-ish pages from now, etc etc.
Stuff can happen inside and outside your own borders, like I can send an entire Armada up the English Channel and take Britain, this would probably make you hostile towards my country,

No I mean stuff that happens randomly and is independent of player's choices.
