Wasn't there a survey that showed people from the 3rd world/developing countries felt happier than those elsewhere?
I'm putting that down to "ignorance is bliss". If you never knew how good life could be and for how long, you wouldn't really care or complain about your own life very much. Same way Facebook makes people depressed. Knowing that someone is having a great time on their summer holidays with their SO while you're at home doing eff all might get you in the dumps, but if you never knew you wouldn't give a flying fuck.

Drifting back towards books and religion, Metro 2033 got a good few points on religion oddly enough. Not in any in-depth-analysis shit, but enough to satisfy given the whole scenario that the book portrays.
yeah man. I actually did a big paper on the Christian symbolism that one can find in Glukovsky's world in my last year of school.
Given that Russia is largely athiest, I thought Artyom's and the supporting characters' thoughts on religion was just a cover to let the author get away with such criticisms without punishment from the orthodox (christians/catholics?) there. I swear I heard somewhere they are linked to Putin somehow, and we all know how lenient he is to opposition... Then again, this could be my cyncism talking here.

A lock-in?
A lock-in is when a pub is officially "closed" and the doors are locked to stop people entering, but still serve drinks to those already inside for an extra hour or so.Technically illegal (something about serving alcohol past certain times, blah blah blah), but fuck they are good fun.
At least, I hope that's what he's referring to and I haven't mixed up the words.
It's not really like that in America.
We can serve alcohol till 2 or 3am in most places.
Damn, that sounds nice considering you have to wait 3 extra years for it. Don't get me wrong, in the UK there's plenty of pubs/nightclubs that serve until they close at ridiculous o'clock in the morning, but IIRC the pubs need extra licenses to do that. Doesn't stop them though, the laws are hardly enforced regarding this (and depending on how rural you are, the legal drinking age is... "lenient" by several years too). Now I'm really clueless as to what Rocketman is doing if it isn't a true lock-in. Rocketman, what sort of lock-in is this?

Well, let's see...
-"UFOlogists" and other crazies that have been saying they're real would be less laughed at...only a little bit, though.
-Proof that we aren't alone (and unique) in the universe. This would be a MASSIVE fuck you to most religions which have nothing on them (think of aliens as "non-canon" in the Bible, Quraan, etc).
-A truly outside perspective on everything, assuming we break the communication barrier. New perspectives on philosophy and science come to mind as being the most interesting . This follows on to...
-Possible technological advances (considering that our local area is devoid of other life, it means that at if aliens appeared at this current moment, they would have had to have advanced transportation technology to reach us), assuming it's somewhat compatible. Great for us if it's mechanical/electrical, a tad difficult if it's defying the laws of physics.
However there are many reasons why people don't want them to exist...
-Disease. We (or they) could get totally wiped out by something as relatively harmless as a cold.
-Motives and intentions. War of the Worlds-style aliens is the most feared, obviously.
-Alien (the literal definition). Differences in humans causes conflict as it is, what do you think would happen if a fucking Argon-based squid monster from space appeared and tried to integrate?
Personally, I'd like for aliens to exist in some form or other simply because it's interesting to attempt to imagine something potentially unimaginable. Also, there's some chance life exists elsewhere in the Universe, although the chances of contact are vastly lower, which is where most of these reasons fall down on.

I can draw, but tbf I think I'm only half decent. I have an encyclopedia of useless knowledge at my disposal, however.

Even that's more believable than this horseshit.

I wonder what would have followed afterwards if they failed to reach/return from the moon.
Would the later Apollo missions go through? Would the USSR still try?

I like most genres of music, but I love alternative and electronic stuff. Here's the artists I listen to mostly. Beck He moves through a lot of genres, so I'll do a song from each radically different album:

Personally I'd ignore the curved shit and get that Acer 27". I've got an LG IPS monitor, great for PC and console, although they don't sell those anymore which makes me doubt the quality of it...

I know he's sorta taking a break or something atm, but Deci. For his own damn good, rather than breaking any rules (though he did fuck up a Skype chat IIRC).
Everyone else is safe under my gaze, though tbh I'm pretty indifferent so I reckon any small incursion would lead to bans all round.

It's a shame whenever I get into a feminist argument I'm too drunk to link to this stuff here.
Then again that could be a good thing depending how you see it.
Doesn't matter how drunk you are or how good your argument is, when it's with a feminist they shout you out completely. Last time I "debated" with a feminist "friend" on facebook they deleted all my posts, their status, and removed me as a friend.
Try living with one. Great banter between her and the Bulgarian who had his own relatively moderate views on things.

Wait what?
Scotland is practically the part of Britain that has the same stereotype of Ireland yet more violent, and you have a curfew...
Does it apply to fried mars bars though?
