News / Re: Community Feedback

Change the mail icon to somewhere else on mobile site. Already been mentioned before, but noteworthy.

Iconsistency in the rules regarding avatars/images and text posts. While images have to removed/spoilered if above PG13 or offensive in some manner, anything we say isn't. Personally I want the "it's allowed as long as it isn't illegal" stance.

That's about it really.

Septagon / Re: Stupidity of the forum rules.
« on: September 02, 2015, 04:58:26 PM »
I thought the calling out rule was put into place because of Kinder
It was the Kinder, Comms, Noelle triumvirate
I remember Noelle having a few call out threads, but not in any negative manner. Kinder on the other hand was all about the to the death flame wars.
Yeah it was mainly to avoid the situation that shitted up the ProBoards forum

towards the end it was just non-stop calling each other out between those three
I wasn't on ProBoards so I guess I wouldn't know. But if there's one thing I gotta say, it's that the majority of some people's more malicious shenanigans were behind the scenes in PMs, skype, and outside the forum.
Then I guess the rule was reasonable then. The malicious shit should've stayed where it was instead of jumping into a fan.

But OT it's pretty obvious when a callout is in jest rather than to insult a person, so it's fine as it is.

The Flood / Re: On the topic of GMO's
« on: September 02, 2015, 02:53:17 PM »
There are a ton of advantages to GMO's, but there are noteworthy disadvantages.

-To stop GMO plants killing off native species, they are sterile. That results in dependance on the company producing them to buy more seeds. This could be mitigated if the GMO market had more competition, but I assume patenting gets in the way here.

-Have to be kept segregated in case of a mutation that kills them off or allows them to breed and spread to native species. This is related to the last point.

Another general disadvantage is that the ones who have access to GMO's don't really need them, as in they would much better suited for developing countries. More of a distrubution problem, but eh.

Essentially GMO's are the next step from selective breeding. Animal and plant food sources were never the size they are now without some good ol' human intervention, so why suddenly modifying them with better positive results without as many negative side effects is considered bad by some is quite ludicrous.

Avoiding the situation entirely.
Spoiler
But seriously, I don't get into anxious situations unless I'm forced to, and then usually I keep it together until I just... don't feel anxious. Not really sure how to explain the last bit.

« on: September 01, 2015, 06:31:17 PM »
Electrocuted myself twice from the mains, once when I was 2 and another 3 years ago. They say amps are what kills you, but 240 volts isn't a picnic either. I've also nearly been run over on my bike (my own fault). Oh and I choked on cornflakes once.

Really I haven't been that much at risk from death - mostly just risk of seriously injuring myself.

Wait a minute... They're re-releasing Noshahr Canals?

That map was a spawncamp bonanza on any gamemode (ignoring TDM because fuck that gamemode in particular). Why of all the re-hashed maps did they add that one?

It sounds like they're implementing the TDM part of it into Dragon Valley in some way. Not te full Noshahr, just the TDM bit.

Uh...huh...

...but that doesn't mean it's okay to CATER to sexist endeavors. I'm not a sexist, so I won't play sexist games.

I agree with that sentiment. At least if there's something overdone in that regard in a game, I try and avoid it or if it's unavoidable, get it over with as fast as possible.

Oh, and I found a female character that has massive breasts that isn't for the purpose of objectification - or for any reason at all, actually:

Ellie from Borderlands 2

She does get some rather revealing stuff in DLC as part of a mission, but the quest itself corrects it.

Yes, otherwise I get splinters from the wood or cold feet from the stone flooring.
Your floors seriously need redone if you're getting splinters on a regular basis.

Yep, they're old as hell and weren't properly sanded or treated, supposed to be carpets on the floor. I'm sure as hell not paying for it though.

The Flood / Re: Why are we so sensitive to pain?
« on: August 31, 2015, 03:58:06 PM »
Generally what Luciana said.

If I leant against a hot stove without realising, without the pain receptors I wouldn't realise I'm damaging myself. Death is just the extreme of damaging myself to the point of non-existence. Say if I got set on fire, without pain I wouldn't rush to save myself:

In the case of an animal being eaten, a response of "going numb" is a sort of planning-for-failure type evolution, which is contradictory. The pain, being unbearable, is going to make the animal desperate to try anything to stop it, and something desperate might work to help it break free, and continue living.

I should be able to make that (isn't the 6th Sunday?), just need to find myself a 24hr code lying around.

EDIT: Found a 2-day code, got my plans sorted, should be able to play both Halo Reach on Saturday and BC2 on Sunday, although the latter for a short while as I got a flight to catch early in the morning.

While I'd never deny that there is sexism in certain games, I would argue that they rarely influence someone in the real world, and in most cases it comes down to personal choice (I can, and do play GTA and FNV without interacting with the prostitutes, and the benefits these added features give is not needed to complete the game, rather a negligible advantage) or because it's a useful mechanic in-game (The Saboteur's kiss-the-girl-to-evade-capture is akin to jumping in a haystack in Assassin's Creed. Why they didn't just do that, is a good question). Just like violent video games don't make me go out and kill people, sexualisation in games doesn't make me a misogynist, or even wish to take part in these "features" if given the choice.

I'm not defending it (most of that stuff makes me uncomfortable while playing), I just don't believe it translates into real life.
