To add to this, females are fucking weird in regards to what they view as a date and not. The QT I work with went with me to the parks and we saw Spiderman in theaters and walked around for hours just talking and having fun. But her only reason for those not being dates was because I didn't use the word when asking her despite those two instances being literally no different from what we did when we actually had a legitimate date.

The problem with going on dates instead of just getting to know someone is that there are expectations on either end. Dates imply you're trying for something more than just friendship and a lot of the time it puts more pressure on people than is necessary. It's tricky for women too though. I've been to quite a few movies and dinners that I thought were just hang out sessions only to disappoint the girl by not making a move or picking up on signals. Not all male/female interactions are sexually or romantically charged my guy.

One of the girls I work with has begun to open up to me about her personal life and there are people who have worked there for years who haven't been able to get two words from her.
Relationships don't need to be complicated and they don't need to be deeply personal to get worth from.
Obviously this could lead to more personal and intimate relationships, but just knowing someone counts on you to make their day a little less shit is a great feeling.
Sometimes I walk past her to get to the area where I'm working. What would be a good thing to say to start a small conversation as I'm walking by?
Just a hey how you doing. Talk about work, see where it leads. "Do you like working here?" is great because it generally opens up to their personal life quickly and you can lead into more interesting subjects. Everyone likes to complain, allowing people to vent to you and expanding upon it is the easiest way I've found to get to know someone.
