News / Re: Choose Your Mods

Did you ask all or any of them if they actually wanted to become mods?
Next in line gets the option if they don't want to be a moderator. I'll be sure to PM the candidates and talk to them about it before they get the orange text.

They [the images] could be hosted offsite, Google Cloud Storage would work, keep the images under 80kb and it would accrue minimal to no cost.
True story; you're right, and it turns out there's a simple plugin for it as well.

That's going on the list.

It's basically impossible for this place to get nuked. Cheat himself would have to do it, but he's a pretty level headed guy.
What if he isn't able to afford the hosting at some point? That's the only situation that I can think of that will get this forum delete.
Several other sites I host for a fee are on the server already, so that takes away a sizable chunk of the cost out. If worst comes to worst, you'll have to deal with ads and maybe a day or two offline forum if I need to change hosts.

You must not live where I do, then. Fat people are everywhere here in Missouri.

Septagon / Re: Interchangeable themes?
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:41:57 PM »
I think that will be happening.
If we get a B.old look my life will be complete.

That's the goal!  :D
Adding a second theme is probably one of the last things planned, since the many modifications, plugins, and bug fixes would have to be duplicated along side of the original layout. Once the site settles into stability and most of the features are added and working correctly, then we can talk about themes.

Septagon / Re: How to stop getting notifications via email
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:39:24 PM »
You have to manually turn notifications on or off for a thread.
You'll see that option at the top of the post.
meh, that's going to get very annoying very fast. Especially when I'm on mobile. Surely that should be fixed.
You didn't mention mobile, are you using the Tapatalk app?
Not at the moment, but I set it up to where I could use this forum. My phone hasn't stopped buzzing from the combination of Tapatalk and email notifications.
That's weird, you can turn off notifications on Tapatalk by simply going to the settings. As for the email notifications, I don't know where those could be coming from because you have to manually mark a thread to receive notifications on it.
Go into your profile and there should be a menu item for notifications. There it will have settings as well as the threads you've set to notify. You might have it set to notify you of every thread you post in or something.

How much control do you have over the site? Like complete access to the HTML stuff?

I can access everything.

I feel like the empty space on both sides of the page could be done away with. Also, if it's possible to have a sub-forum of the Flood for Religious/Political discussion, that would be superb.
The empty space stays for now. Stretching he body wrapper is not very nice looking with this site design. The serious discussion forum will be made soonish (after I put in Likes).

Ctrl+V image upload/posting would be cool for screens and what-not (with crop)

Also, I agree don't stretch the main container it looks good the way it is.
I have no desire to host more images than we have to (avatars). Got to keep that bandwidth low. ;)

Gaming / Re: Anyone here play Pokemon?
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:05:55 PM »
I'm working on a playthrough of W2 just to have Pokemon from Unova.

Can't wait for Alpha Sapphire
I had to buy Black 2 off of ebay just so I could transfer over all my event Pokemon (and their clones). And whoever had the game last left their profile on the cartrage, so now I have a Genesect and a few other wonder card rarities.

Lucky. I am missing so many event and other legendary Pokemon.

I need to get me a Manaphy.

I have a bunch of Manaphy or Phiones on my Heartgold cartridge, I'm just waiting to get the pokemon bank thing so I can start moving them into Gen 6, when I get to doing so you are welcome to have one :D

I bred so many of them .-.
On that note, I have many legitimate wishmkr Jirachi that I cloned from the Colosseum bonus disk if anyone wants one. They're level five and haven't been touched.

Septagon / Re: Max users at one time.
« on: July 28, 2014, 06:59:24 PM »
I'm expecting the site to grow pretty large. Better get those coding skills prepped.
If things get big he'll probably have to put ads on to pay for the cost of a bigger server. Unless you guys want to just donate, but I don't see that happening.

Ads are fine. As long as they're placed like they were on B.Old.
Ads (or, well, ad) will probably be necessary in the near future. I think everyone is familiar with the sidebar-style advertisements Bungie had, so it'll probably go there when they're implemented.

I keep on getting this error every time I load up a new page, I have to refresh it in order to get actual page.

Anyone else getting this error?
I am currently adding several more users. This might keep popping up for the next few minutes until the limit resets.

It depends more on how often the members are clicking things and drawing resources from the database.

I fixed the issue of the max_questions by adding some more database users to spread the load, so on that end there shouldn't be an issue. If it happens again I can add a few more users.

The only problem I see happening is with the bandwidth. I supposedly have unrestricted bandwidth for my hosting package, but there's this undefined line in the sand called "normal use" that they can get you with if you cross it and start "affecting other users on the server." File sharing sites and the like usually get hit with this, but there's no mention of internet forums.

So... it's possible that we could get throttled down, but I am not sure how likely it is. If it does happen, we may have to jump hosts or consider some serious bandwidth-saving options.

Like B.Old?
Not sure what you mean.

Notifications would probably be the first to go, as they suck a fair amount of resources, followed by uploaded avatars.

I mean the old Bungie. Because it, I believe had a file-sharing system. Could be wrong, though.
Oh, no, I meant like megaupload or the multitude of other sites that let you upload a file for free for others to download. That type of site was used in the example of things that often exceed the "normal use" ceiling. I don't think we have that type of traffic to worry about it, but then again I also can't predict how big the community will grow.

The salad ingredient list is tomorrow. I'll put you down for it.

Apparently this forum has 9 guests, but why is this allowed? And can they see everything?

Details needed basically
They can browse the forum and see profiles, but they can't interact with the forum at all until registering.

To be honest, I was never a fan of locking out a forum from guests completely.

It's about time you showed up.
How do you have a custom title?
Uh if you mean the "Respected Posting Spree" that's based off of a combination of Karma and Post count
The prefix = what users rate your karma, so negative points equal "Bad" as your prefix, positive points equal "Respected" as your prefix.
You won't see this prefix until 25 posts (keeps someone from making multiple fake accounts and spamming someone with "-1" karma points.

The rest equals post count, so far it's
1. Newbie
2. Member
3. Posting Spree

Cheat hasn't released full details, the ranking system is supposedly much deeper than just post count.
Ah, gotcha, that's awesome. The bars should change colors so we can get our blue hats again! :D

Also, how does the Karma thing work? Because I can't find any way to like/dislike posts.
They do. You can. Trust editing unlocks when you become a member.

Aren't we going to need more than two mods?
We will see. 4 staff members seems like a good start, but if we need more, then more will be added.

Sure, why not would make the place more lively.
I'll make a topic on Bnet tonight once I fix a few issues (like top nav on mobile).

That is awesome that you are making a game. Are you doing it as a project for a college course or simply because you want to do it and learn from the experience?
Nah, just to screw around, have fun.
That's still an awesome way to learn and get better at coding. :)

The Flood / Re: Bad member rating
« on: July 28, 2014, 02:43:37 AM »
I've seen a few people with title of bad member. Is that given out especially by mods or automatic for certain criteria?
It's automatic and means that you've dipped a bit into the negative in Trust. It has no effect on posting in the forum, though; it's strictly cosmetic.

The Flood / Re: Your edgiest/contraversial opinions?
« on: July 28, 2014, 02:41:04 AM »
A lot of my opinions regarding various conspiracy theories are quite controversial.
Yeah, like your whole plane idiocy that has zero proof. Top lel
Actually there was some proof to support that theory. I also never stated it was fact, and said that I did not believe it. I simply made a thread discussing the possibility of it. Disregarding things before doing any sort of research on it yourself is honestly quite foolish.
I've watched a bunch of conspiracy documentaries about 9/11. I'll admit, some of the stuff they present is interesting.

It's a closer race than I would have expected.

Going to offer any hints, or just be elusive?
There's only one person without any votes. Nobody has a sizable lead.

The Flood / Re: Game of Thrones [TV]
« on: July 28, 2014, 02:27:26 AM »
Is Game of Thrones actually worth getting into? I have never been a huge fan of the medieval genre, I like fantasy and sci-fi type stuff more. If it is on Netflix I may check out the first season.
I hate medieval stuff, but I found it surprisingly addictive. There are way too many sex scenes in there, though. After a while it seems like they're just doing it to show off their ability to do so.

YouTube

Pretty much.
