Septagon / Re: Should there be a Sep7agon Youtube channel?
« on: October 07, 2014, 01:57:41 AM »
It already exists >>
Linky?

I think I found it, not sure if it's official though. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcf_97ErJ2BMhGd_OjYaMLQ/feed
Thats the one, I made it.
Is it public or just admins n stuf?

I'm not sure there's been a decision on this.
If you're waiting for me to make a call, I don't mind letting community members upload content. The account is controlled by Yutaka, so you'd have to work with him.

There's a nifty shop mod that I was half-considering installing that would be an excellent motivator (you'd earn "credits" to buy nameplates with).

The problem with this is that it would most probably cause lots of shitposts with no discussion value.

EDIT: Cheat I hate to say I told you so, but when we first started considering an Anarchy board I believe I said it would tear this place apart. If you still want to do it it needs to be forced Anonymous all the time.
Or how about instead of no rules, we keep the rules about bashing other members in place there? Nobody wants to be a target, I think I would know.
That...is not a bad idea. I'd probably have to allow myself to view the IPs of those posting if we're going to go that route, though; I have a feeling some people would try to bash others as anonymous, regardless of the rules.

Something to think about, at least.

Perhaps I need to rethink Anarchy if we're going to hemorrhage members like this from the drama that crops up... ???
If we're gonna keep having Anarchy, this is going to be an inevitable consequence that you should be aware of. That whole issue of members being personally attacked with no repercussions thing is kind of bad.
Well, shit.

I'm going to have to think about this, but right now I'm not really feeling good about the aftermath of Anarchy. I'll let you guys know if I decide to scrap the board.

I have to assume that you're talking about the stuff that went down in Anarchy when you say "circle jerk," but I am having a hard time connecting the dots, trying to figure out how that made the OP want to leave.

Why would you go back to that garbage?
this place is a fracking land fill. If you like it here then that pretty cool but honestly I'm sick of the people here. (You, Vien and luke and Kiyo and Psy are great)
At least on the b.net, the new kids are too stupid to circle jerk and bash each other into the ground.
Sorry to see you go. :(

News / Staff Change
« on: October 06, 2014, 11:18:16 PM »
I'll be fast about this.

Mr Psychologist and Kiyo have swapped moderator positions. Kiyo will now serve as a Forum Ninja while Mr Psychologist will be a Master Forum Ninja. This should be the only current change with staff (that I can think of).

Septagon / Re: So is loli allowed on anarchy?
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:12:32 PM »
Our servers are in the US, and so (as far as I can tell from looking it up) it is not illegal, so long as the content is not photographs/actual depictions of a real child.

So yeah, it's allowed in Anarchy.
Well there ya have it, folks. Cartoon kiddies getting railed by the elderly is allowed. You're welcome.
Quote
Yeah, I just looked up a few more sources and it's a grey area.

I'm going to go ahead and ban outright it from Anarchy for the rest of this round, to be safe. We will check it out in greater detail before next month.

It is about time someone else got Mythic. I have been lonely.
*Hugs*
I thought you would have Mythic with me a long time ago after Cheat reworked the system. I wonder why it took longer.
Because people like you more.
It's because you hadn't reached the post cap for Mythic yet. It's quite high.

I'm Cheats long lost relative, giev me pink bar pls
I'm also Cheat's son who he put up for adoption. Do I get a pink titlebar?
I'm Cheats cousin, aunty, uncle, son, daughter. you name it and I'm that lol
Seems legit.

4543
And why do they get a pink titlebar?

You're only the 3rd person to make a thread about my identity. This is exciting!
. . .

Why the FUCK do you get a pink titlebar?
He may have bribed me with food and money. I don't really remember all that clearly...

News / Re: Staff Poll
« on: October 06, 2014, 02:50:46 PM »

Half of those voting options are a joke.
Hopefully not me =/
Especially you. This poll is a joke even if it doesnt change anything.
All jerkers should be left out.

The reason why Mr. Psychologist and LC are getting the most votes is because they've consistently displayed good ethics and character not because of circle jerking.

Whereas users like Vien, who, while funny, posts as a roleplay (You don't want staff members posting nearly naked elites as "their thing"), Nasty, who himself said isn't mod or monitor material.
And Death, who I talked about on the first page of the thread.

But yes, most of those options aren't from a circlejerk.
Although Cheat shouldn't really take polls into account where mods are involved.
Look at Kiyo, whether she has antagonised people or not, she's done a good job of being a mod, yet she has less votes than Nasty.

The community itself isn't a good judge on character for the most part.
Eh I would say that the community does have a right to say who their mods are. I don't believe in that theory that mods are supposed to be hated. Look at b.net the majority of the mods who are active i.e. bobcast, Duardo, Recon, and Slayer are generally liked by the majority of the community. Cheat like any site owner wants to keep his community happy and is trying to do so with this poll.
I see what you're trying to say, but I never said mods should be anything but good at moderation.
Actually, I didn't even say that.

I said what you don't want for mods.

Apart from Kiyo getting bashed, all I've seen is pointing towards you (current mods) being cool guys that do a good job.
So Cheat is doing a good job.
He just needs to make sure he plays with his head, over his heart here. Or bad things will happen.
I've never been very sentimental.

I will tell you that I already had a change or two in mind in terms of staff positions before I put the poll up, and that it hasn't really swayed my decision that much.

Before we begin any of these big projects to expand our site, I feel we need to make sure we have everything in order with who's here - including the current staffing debate and other problems that still are open.

Don't want to build an expansion when the foundation is cracking.
I agree.
Also if we are going to expand we should probably increase staff as the user count gets higher. More users means more people to look after.
That's a given and it will be done as our activity grows. Right now we have enough, I think.

RC speaking words of wisdom there. We need to keep growing at a steady pace so that we don't eventually die out and things stay interesting, but the place just wouldn't be the same with potentially heaps of new users joining.  The sense of belonging to a community is what makes us stand out from the impersonal forums sporting hundreds of users where most don't even know each other.
That's the thing. We need to keep things interesting and try to stay alive and not turn stagnant. I have doubts that we would ever grow to the size of Bungie, and that's not really what I am aiming for; I just want us to keep being awesome.

Also if you plan for this place to get big, Anarchy will probably have to go at some point.
Why? The way I see it, Anarchy is our main draw.

In a word, advertisers. If this place gets big then you'll get a bunch of newer people who are unaffiliated with Bungie.net. Think an IGN or Giant Bomb.

How would it look to potential advertisers and investors if it was widely known that both of those places had unmoderated sections in their forums where users could pretty much post anything except for child porn? They wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as they have today.
This is a serious possibility. Right now, we can support ourselves with the ads we have. If we get too large, we'll need a VPS or a dedicated server. That would cost more money and if that were to happen, and we had that many people, yeah...Anarchy would have to say goodbye.

The plus side is that the rest of the forums would be populated out of our ass.

If we ever get some content creation that takes off (YouTube vids, more recent game reviews, etc.) we could stay strong for a good long while.

Also, as long as Bungie.net sucks we should be reasonably fine.
Hmm...I don't like the idea that we ride off of Bungie. I think we should stick with them for a bit, absorb the better members and just become an independent gaming site.
Well yeah...that'd be great. The problem is actually doing it.

I can manage the site and troubleshoot the forum errors like a boss, and I'd like to think I'm a decent community manager, but we're going to need some extra hands if we want this place to keep getting awesome.

The YouTube thing for one. I hate making videos. I'm more the photoshop/illustrator type. We should start putting together some kind of video something to draw interest to the site.

Our reviews that we have are awesome and I can see that growing.

I can't really think of anything else we need to branch out to, but I'm sure there are other places and things to do to bring in traffic.
Heck yes, let's do it. Go on a recruiting spree! Go to your college class and find some trusted fellows who know their way around a computer. I could make that video/be the youtube guy. I would then send the videos to a more capable member to edit it and make it more pretty. L
Hm..Let's get an AD in gameinformer. I'd be willing to chip in to the cost.
I think we have a YouTube channel that someone made, but we need someone that can edit video, yeah.

I mean...I have a degree in graphic design, so I could do it, but I'd rather pull teeth than deal with video editing software (also not a fan of flash for this reason).

T-shirts were also a thing I was turning around in my mind, and that is something that would be awesome if we ever decide to go out into the real world to an event of some kind (or just wear it to Walmart or something; whatever).

Why not a Machinima on Halo? I'm very good friends with the owner of Machinima Union and we could either get him to help or even help with the Halo Archive's Machinima stuff once the scripting finishes.

Also, should we make a new thread for this?
Yeah, I'll split the topic and move it to Septagon.

Machinima would be great. I know we have some writers here (you, yourself, if I'm not mistaken).

Alright, Tee-shirts, that's a start. I'd totally purchase one and wear it to midnight game premiers and what not. Designing that shirt should be relatively easy. There's online companies that allow you to give them a design and they'll make the shirt for you. What I could do is buy like 20 of these shirts with the selected design and send it off to some members of this site to wear around?
Yeah. As long as the shirt uses one or two colors only (one preferably) they are super-cheap.

So Cheat, what exaclty do you want Sep7agon to become? I assumed it was just a forum, but it looks like you've got bigger plans for it than just that.
I want to keep the community as the base. That's important to me. But I also want this place to become a resource of good reviews and enjoyable content.

In the far distant future (a galaxy far, far away) I am developing plans for a quazi-community-groups feature that would allow the private groups from Bnet to migrate over here and host their forum within a board they would control.

lol also just realized we're like complete opposites
Yeah, lol. I have the high bars in all the right places.
how can you be antisocial and histrionic at the same time though? sounds kinda contradictory to me, but i'm probably just misinterpreting it
I'm probably more histrionic than antisocial, but they don't necessarily contradict each other. Antisocial just means you have a harder time emphasizing with people, and histrionic means that you crave attention. They're not incompatible.
Basically you're a narcissistic attention whore who doesn't know how to properly socialize with people.
You were right up until here. I'm not the most empathetic person, but I'm definitely sociable. Like Cheat said, antisocial =/= asocial.
Read again.
I wasn't saying that you can't socialize, just that you don't do it very well because you're way too self absorbed.
Hm, I can agree with that. It's not like my self absorption isn't completely warranted, though.
I don't really socialize, either, but it's less of an anxiety issue and more that I just don't have any desire to go out and make friends. I don't know if I would call it self absorbed, though...
