Septagon / Re: Site suggestion?
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:58:52 AM »
Can I make a site suggestion/request?

If you edit your post within like, 30 seconds of posting it, could it not show as "edited"? So often I find a typo or something after I hit "submit" but I dread that "edited" tag.

Is that even possible?
Completely and easily possible. Consider it done.

I'll submit a support ticket for the mod. They should fix this shit, as I paid for the mod.

I'm still thinking over exactly what to give you guys besides the Pestilence nameplate. With so many of the cool kids having custom nameplates, there needs to be another little gift for you.

Spoiler
Probably an icon like what the staff has, but don't bet money on it.
What's the cut off point? First 25 members or any members joined in September?
I'm going to say September, yeah. Again, don't exactly bet on it, but that's the range I'm going to probably go with (maybe).

Updated "Most Racist" award

Where's my award at?

for..............?
Tightest anus

That'll work

You are seriously ok with this? It could be for something else ya know :/
Most pro or most pink?

Wait, idea!
I nominate Groot and Rocket Raccoon as "Best Duo"
I still don't understand why, if the alt is supposed to be the character, he would name himself Rocket Raccoon. He was absolutely confused as to what a Raccoon was in the movie.

I suppose its the name that just stuck?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_Raccoon
Yeah, but it's like those promotional posters for the film that each featured a character. Peter Quill's has "Star-Lord" over the top and Rocket Raccoon's has "Rocket" because those are their names/code-names (it's not that weird to have a code name).

IDK. I'm just nit-picking. :P

The Flood / Re: Podcast Related Question
« on: October 21, 2014, 04:17:58 PM »
I'm still not particularly interested in the whole podcast thing. Seems like the main reasons to listen to one is either because the people participating in it are in a position that is extremely interesting, or because they're very eloquent and well opionated. Unless this ends up taking an unexpected turn, I can't really see myself just listening to a bunch of other forum members just talk about stuff.

I've never listened to a podcast.
Ever.

Are they even popular still?
I still see the term pop up frequently, so I guess so. And I've listened to podcasts before, there just needs to be something interesting about them to get me to watch.
What there needs to be is personality. The peeps talking need to be engaging with whatever topic. Shit isn't a news article it's basically a radio show on the internet and it has to be entertaining while it informs you.
That's what I mean, you need people to actually know their shit. You need people who deal with something (semi-)professionally and actually have an uneducated opinion on something. That's the kind of stuff that makes people want to watch. I'm not particularly interested in taking 1-2 hours out of my day to just listen to random people talk about random topics. You need something special.
I agree. I'm listening into the test podcast right now and they just spent 3 minutes talking about frozen cream.

frack me.

Topics and news need to be chosen ahead of time so that it doesn't turn stale, which I believe will be the case next time (the topics chosen, not being stale). IDK, it's workable right now but not really all too interesting.
Was it at least funny?
No. It seemed...dare I say forced?

I don't know, though. Stuff like that would likely be edited out before it was presented, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm getting the unfiltered version of the test podcast.

News / Re: Project Oversight: Destiny, Part 1
« on: October 21, 2014, 12:08:08 PM »
So, I am going to propose something here.

I'm currently doing the write up for the next section of Destiny - originally aimed at covering PvP, Marty O'Donnell, and the Destiny community.

However, I'm going to be honest. Destiny's multiplayer is by far one of the most forgettable PvP experiences I have ever had the misfortune of playing, and that is translating to it coming off as poor in the writing. So, I am likely going to gloss over PvP for now and focus on more important issues for the game.

If anyone has concerns or would like me to cover PvP, let me know.
I can't even play pvp without getting kicked, so I won't mind at all.

I changed mine a bit ago and haven't seen any changes. Is it not fully functional?
They unlock for normal users in stages. Heroic + 3000 posts gets your custom nameplate (as long as you're wearing Imposter), Mythic gets you a custom title, and the one beyond that gets you custom bar/border colors.
Not going to reach the 3000 mark anytime soon.
Just think about how rewarding it'll be when you get there, though.

Septagon / Re: Front Page UI Design Contest?
« on: October 21, 2014, 12:05:27 AM »
Isara is working on a redesign, and I have been considering the new look for the front page as well. If I have my way we will have a large top stories/events fader and a side list for accepted news stories, with other widgets and block space for the growing community.

Expect the forum index list to be moved to another page.
Why not have it come down from a drop down menu?

Anyway i must give my thanks to Isara.
If you're on a mobile device, the list will be on something similar to my website's menu (view on a phone, duh).

Septagon / Re: What're the measurements for nameplates?
« on: October 20, 2014, 05:58:27 PM »
It still doesn't change that this person isn't involved in the site. This person is a regular member and in order to get the speacil features normal members have to have over 3,000 posts. Which this person doesn't have.
It is not really a custom nameplate, just a special one. I am pretty sure Class had it near the beginning of this site.
Yeah, a bunch of you crazy kids did some nameplate tests for me and that was one of them.

Do these Ebay ads give us more money?
Just started putting them up, so I have no idea yet. They're not pay-per-view, though, so I don't think it's a good long-term solution.

I'm actually applying for another ad service right now and we'll just see.

I've had that same ad for 2 days straight.
It doesn't rotate (yet).

eBay is way less advanced than Adsense, so I'll have to collect all the relevant banners and put them into a random function. It's a whole thing. :-\

And if you are thinking of making an ebay account anytime in the future, please use that banner to get there. I believe I would get a percentage of your earnings (at no cost to you of course).

Aren't you happy I've started putting five bucks a day away now?
The "save sep7agon fund" project is officially a go?

No. But ever since this ruckus started, I've been putting five bucks a day away in case Cheat has to open up for donations.

There isn't a fuckin' chance in hell I'd let this place sink, not if I had it in me to stop it. So, if things hit the fan, and donations are needed, it won't hit the fan for very long.
You're a good man. If it were to come to the point that donations were necessary to save the site, I doubt many would contribute as much as you would.

I have to think about what this place means to me. Because it does mean something.

I walk a very fine line, borderline, technologically dumb hermit, and technolgy addicted regular person. A middle ground. I avoid social networking sites for the most part, and all the other technology based addictions and distractions. I don't text, have no cell phone, don't watch TV, and aren't abosrbed completely into a computer screen all day.

So this site, this one place, has always been my internet home. I have nowhere else to go that I would feel comfortable with. And I'm sentimental. I've made friends here. Had good moments with people. Learned new stories, new perspectives. I get a portion of my news on events in the world here.

This is my true home for everything internet related. And although it isn't the place I originally started in, Bungie has gone down a road that goes against everything I stand against. Social media and the pushing of products. Their site used to be a place for more than just a video game. You could do more than just talk and discuss their video game.

I mean, I've met artists. Muscicians. Hell, even a fucking glass blower. Do you know how much of a dying art glass blowing is? And on a gaming site, of all the fucking places, I met one. I've met different people from across the world all with different stories to tell, and new outlooks for me to study.

This place has given me so much. And I owe a debt for what has been given. So I will not let it sink. And I have the ability to keep it going if it's going under. I have the ability to help, to do something. So long as this place is alive and well, then I will stand up for it because I owe a debt for what's been given to me here.

If this light goes out, then I go out with it. So I will repay my debts to what I've been given here over the years, and if I can help to keep what this place is to me alive and well, then no matter how poor I am, I will find money to keep it going, because it's worth it, and money well spent.
I'm not about to stop you from donating money when the time comes that we open up that option to you guys, but you really don't have to give that much. Hopefully we can get ad advertising solution that isn't obnoxious and actually makes me more money that it costs to keep the site up. But like I said before: we can keep running until June or July, so there's no real reason to hurry and dump money into the site just yet.

I am going to be applying to some more advertising sites, so I may (will) be putting the filters back into place for a bit while they crawl the site.

Nope. You can't fool me. I'm not even bypassing the motherfucking filter.

Dude, take the word fuck and copy and paste it onto notepad right now. If you don't see a line between any of the letters, that's how you know I'm not bypassing the filter and that I'm telling the truth.
Haha, okay. You're obviously an alt of Cheat trying to get me to bypass the filter. Well, you have to get up pretty fracking early in the morning to fool me, Cheat!

Someone's buttmad that I foiled their plan  8)
Better luck next time, buddeh.

Hi,

It does look like you have this disabled and that your filter strength is up to strict, so this definitely shouldn't be getting through. If the next time you see it, if you could use your browser to 'inspect element' and grab the ad calls starting from go.adversal.com then I can forward it over to ad ops for investigation.

Sincerely,

Kyle Smith
Adversal Support

Do this and post whatever you find in this thread the next time you get the ad (note, it'll be at the bottom as I have disabled the top ads for the eBay one).

Why does this person have a custom nameplate and color when they have only 200 posts?
That would be Cheat's cousin.
So why does that mean this person has privileges that others bellow the 3333 posts don't have? Cheat did say that you have to have +3,000 posts for those features to unlock. Cousin or not this person is way below the post count for that stuff and they shouldn't have those features unlocked when the other people with a similar post count don't. Last time I checked this person isn't a mod, an admin or any other type of site involved person.
Those features aren't unlocked for him. The pink and the "pro" rank are his default and the nameplate isn't imposter.

Is it fair? Eh, maybe not. But the guy bribed me with food and $2 cash. I was powerless to his charms.
