I'm cynical in general, so I don't have high hopes. People are fucking stupid.

Expect Yutaka to draw out his words veeerrrry slllloooowwwwly, but other than that and some expected awkwardness from the new experience, it wasn't half bad.

It'll be up tomorrow, or so I hear. ;)

Septagon / Re: Sep7agon.net running unbearably slow
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:08:19 PM »
Enabling AdBlock seems to have fixed the slowness, it is now running normally. I wish Google had not ditched us.
It seems to be doing that since I bitched at them, so it may be their ad server having a seizure from them messing around with it.
Mind if I keep it enabled for a day or two then? I will disable it occasionally to see if it is fixed, but it makes using this site unbearable.
Nope. Go ahead. With all this redirection shit going on I'm not expecting anyone to suffer through the ads until they're fixed.

Scheduled maintenance of the server. ;)
Just wanted to make sure that it was not just me....

Very well then. It is kinda making it difficult to post here because I can barely click on anything.
If you have adblock, try toggling it on and off and see if that makes a difference. The maintenance shouldn't be affecting your computer's performance...

Ok, I've placed the ad tag in an iframe and disallowed it access to top navigation, so it shouldn't be able to redirect anything anymore. I think. Maybe.

Anyway, let me know if you're still getting them. I know for a fact that ads will still load inside the iframe (I tested it) but I would like confirmation about the redirecting issue.

Septagon / Re: CHEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT
« on: November 19, 2014, 06:01:00 PM »
For those of you who are able to replicate the redirect (I've yet to get it yet, ever) please try using Sep7agon on a different browser for a day and let me know what happens. I'd test this myself but...well I'm just not seeing this malicious stuff personally and I can't force it to show up on my end.

I know this is pretty basic, but also consider running an anti-malware and anti-adware program to check for anything that may be hijacking your browser. The previous ad network we used was massively shady, so it may be that a few of you picked something up from that and it's coming through on the ads here.

Dump your temporary internet files if you haven't done so, and clear your cache and remove all your cookies. When you're done, you shouldn't still be logged into the site.

Septagon / Those of you getting redirects
« on: November 19, 2014, 04:00:38 PM »
I need the following information from you:

Code: [Select]
1. Your operating system
2. The browser you're using when they appear (if multiple, say so)
3. The URL of the redirected page and a screenshot if you can manage
4. If you see an ad before you're redirected, include any info on that as well.

I'll be sending these guys the URL to this thread, so keep it clean and only post once with your info. Questions can be PM'd to me or posted in another thread about these redirects.

The message they sent me
Hi Cheat -

Thanks for reaching out again. We’ve been researching the issue, but have not been able to replicate it in the wild. Once we are able to replicate, we can use debugging code to identify and eliminate these malicious ads.

Can you provide any additional operating system and browser information or ad call debugging code?

We take these issues very seriously and are working diligently to resolve the issue.

Please let us know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Thanks

And in 1936 the Germans developed the AT-ST walker.

That mismatched perspective, though...

Dude, that's an old B&W photo, you can't dispute that. It's pretty rock solid evidence.
The shadows don't even match up...  :-\

The cameras were crappy back then, problem solved
Yes, you're probably right. :P

The Flood / Re: Cheat, how close am I to Mythic?
« on: November 19, 2014, 01:19:24 PM »
Just wondering.
A long, long way from home.
How close am I to Legendary?
Well, one of the publicly known requirements for it is 3000 posts, so... Might want to worry about that first.

The Flood / Re: Cheat, how close am I to Mythic?
« on: November 19, 2014, 01:15:34 PM »
NOT AS CLOSE AS MEEEEEEEEEEEE

Spoiler
You're a bit closer now.
did you hit legendary before me?
I don't know.
I think we hit it at the same time roughly, but I spend more time here and have some more posts, so I'll hit Mythic before you.
If you don't get it today, I'd be amazed.

I justify any piracy i might or might not do by going to the movie theater regularly.

The site has been running quite slowly for me the past couple of days. I figured it had something to do with that server maintenance stuff, I never suspected it was the ads.
Might be a bit of both.

News / Re: Apply to be a Monitor
« on: November 19, 2014, 01:43:10 AM »
The worst part is that we have too many members qualified for this position. Good people will end up getting passed over in this round but in time and growth hopefully they'll get there someday.
If that's the case, I wonder if a thing like "Mod for a week" or something could be implemented?
Some sort of test for members or just to mix things up in the staff occasionally.
It might be an interesting thing to do when you want to gauge a member or just try to give people a chance they might not have otherwise.
Oh, you have no idea how tempting it is to do "mod for a week." That chaos... :D

Just kidding. Yeah, it's not a bad idea, actually. Although I'd probably use Monitors as the temporary mods, since that roll is already the in-between of regular members and Ninjas. It's something to consider, for sure.

Here's what I sent them again:

I've had several people complain about the ads that come from your service redirecting them automatically and sending them to a new website that tries to get them to install a fake plugin or program.

Most likely malware.

I've emailed you multiple times about this and posted on your Twitter account as well, but I've not heard anything back about what's being done about this. I'll be including a large image with four separate redirect screens on it so that you can see what's going on.

To be clear: nobody is clicking on the ad. It's taking them to a new page automatically as soon as it loads, and it's doing it several times per day.

Please fix this issue. Your legitimate ads are awesome and clean and I really, really want to continue to use your ad service, but these types of malicious ads just have to go.

I'm ace. It doesn't give me any grief like the other non-hetero orientations might, so I'd probably opt to stay ace. 8)

Septagon / Re: Ads aren't loading.
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:08:55 PM »
When I look at the tab Sep7agon is on, I see it "refreshing" over and over.
The ads try to load, but all I see is a white bar in the ad space, then it disappears. Flashes over and over.

This isn't all the time. They'll load on other times.
but the constant refreshing is annoying.
Hmm...

I'll just disable them until tomorrow. They still haven't gotten back to me about this and it's rather annoying. >:(

EDIT: but to clarify, it's an issue with the ad provider and it's out of my hands, really.

Ok no problem. Just letting you know whats up.
Yeah, I was experiencing the same thing. I have a feeling they're ignoring me now, since it's been over 24 hours since I sent the last email...

Time for another email. :P

I used Firefox exclusively, but then all my tabs were lost somehow and I couldn't get them back for some reason. Then...it happened again like two weeks later and I switched over to Chrome because I didn't want to deal with that bullshit.

Alright how do we sign up or whatever?
Not played customs in a long time, wanna make sure I get in.

Have people actually got fun custom games to play?
Fat kid, etc.
There will likely be infection games, but there's going to be some standard FFA and team games as well (I can't stand a custom game night filled with nothing but infection and gimmick games).

And to sign up, just show up in the party when it's time. Post here if you can't get in and I'll invite you.

We should play some racing customs. Those are always a blast.
I enjoy those, so I'm all for it. :)

Why is the MVP of this site not on the podcast?
The time of day was the suck and I had stuff to do. I'll try to make it to the next one, babe. ;)
No, I mean the real MVP. Me.
