Eh. I don't really like TF2. I don't get what everyone gets so excited about it.
Because Spy and Engineer are best class. That's why.

I have a quick fix (or at least a bandaid) for this, but it'll have to wait until Isara is done upgrading the site.

That's just...Wow.

And they had to shut down the comments section on that video! That's incredible. Who the fuck would let this advertisement through? I mean...surely it was shown to several important people before it was given the go-ahead to be posted on the fucking internet...

Septagon / Re: Give users the ability to lock their own threads.
« on: December 26, 2014, 10:57:06 PM »
I really don't see why this would be a problem and I've yet to see the staff give any good reason why it shouldn't be a thing
The only problem I see with it would be giving the OP the power to essentially stop the conversation prematurely. Sometimes threads take off and if the OP happens to be a troll, they could easily just lock their own thread.

The requestable lock creates a barrier so that doesn't happen. And really, with so many Ninjas and Monitors online all the time, you're not going to have to wait very long. You could also just make a post saying "lock please" and then report it; that'll send an alert to all the Ninjas and they'll take care of it.

You guys are clearly full of shit, I haven't seen a single porn site yet....

Ughhh fine.

I go to exhentai and trawl the place for reaction images. I've shared some with Latsu. You might have been in the Skype that night.
I saw a few of those involving anthropomorphic animals. It was fucking weird.

Ban yourself.
Nah. I like to read but I don't like paying money for reading material. Some of the stuff on there isn't actually that bad.
>fan fiction
>isn't that bad

You gonna have to give an example son.
It's honestly not that difficult to find something decent, no matter what category you're searching in. Idiots with bad ideas for stories generally don't write anything over 30,000 words, so if you set your search parameters above that then your chances of cringing decrease rapidly.

For your health. ;)

Gaming / SSB or Alpha Sapphire?
« on: December 26, 2014, 07:06:55 PM »
So, I have some extra Amazon money and I need a new game to play on my 3DS. I've played and enjoyed the original Sapphire and I'm also a fan of SSB Melee. I just can't decide on which game to buy.

Halp?

She works with the site code and to access those sections and edit them, she does need admin access and obviously the way to get that is to become an admin.

She's not a mod, she only moderates when no one with mod powers can come online, if such a situation arises.
But technically she IS a mod. She has all of the power, if not more power, of a Master Ninja, which pretty much means she can do whatever she wants. A clear example of that is pinning her "anime recommendation thread" in the Flood, a thread that clearly does not need to be pinned.
Don't forget the part where she deleted the comments she didn't like and threatened people that don't like anime to not comment.
This too, it's the first time that I have seen a moderator use their power to help their own personal interests, and that should not happen. I wish I was able to pin my threads so they received more attention, but that's not how it works.

I wasn't there, I can't verify if Nuka's comment was actually contributory to the thread or not.
However if it didn't derail it, then I don't see why it would be deleted.
I'm not necessarily talking about the deleted comments, I'm talking about the thread being pinned in general. It was completely unnecessary and unfair for everyone else who doesn't have the luxury of pinning any thread they want.

But now that I think about it, the deletion of joke comments in The Flood is also borderline abuse of power. Shit, I also got two comments that were deleted in that thread. One was a lighthearted weeb joke and the other was questioning why the thread was pinned in the first place. If she was expecting 100% serious replies then she should have made her thread in Serious, not the Flood.
I actually approved of the anime board discussion being made in News. I was curious as to what people thought about it and if they wanted one or not.

I'd rather the base game be fixed before they add more to it :/
Yeeeaaah, I'd rather the online actually work before adding in more shit.

Except it doesn't take away from that at all. ODST has no multiplayer, so the only teams that work on it are the campaign teams. This would affect nothing in multiplayer.
And if a company had infinite resources, I'd agree with you. But that game has some major issues and they've persisted even after the 2 or 3 patches, so I don't understand how that wouldn't be the number one, all hands on deck priority.

Nah, drinking isn't for me :P
Quit being so Verbatim, guys.
Never needed to be intoxicated to have fun, and I don't particularly enjoy altered states of mind (from experiences with mixing flu medications that made me very fucking loopy).

I like being around drunk people, though; they're pretty entertaining. :)

Gaming / TF2 Server?
« on: December 24, 2014, 10:35:55 PM »
So, we're kinda doing pretty well with these ads and as long as they don't stiff me for my first payment I'll have some extra money leftover after server, domain, and premium update package costs. So I'd like to see if anyone here would be interested in using a Sep7agon server for Team Fortress 2.

It'd probably be open only to members or require a password or something, so that would give us a lot of control over the maps and games and such. Anyway, let me know what you think.

The Flood / Re: Discuss the Mods/Site Staff
« on: December 24, 2014, 02:25:53 PM »
That, really, should be the remit of Serious: politics and religion. The fact that we don't have a clearly defined boundary between the two fora leads to the Flood being sapped of things which could promote decent discussion, because somebody thought it fight the ambiguous criteria for Serious.
Right. Because a thread like that, and threads like many others that I've thought of, wouldn't belong in Serious under the current remit, but you'd have to be snorting coke from your own asshole to think the Flood is any safe place for it to be. So the only other option is to not post the thread at all.

Which really kinda sucks, and it's not... "fair", at the risk of sounding a little jejune.
Which is exactly the problem.

Aspects of the moderation and the ambiguous nature of the Serious board has led to the Flood becoming even more of a cesspool. While this thread, however, is proof that people can discuss things if it interests them in the Flood - it's quite clearly not enough.

If I had to choose a direction for the moderation to go, it'd be stricter. At least initially, while the relationship between the Flood and Serious is sorted out.
Serious was originally just for political and religious discussion, but it kind of mutated into "anything that isn't a shitpost goes here". And you're right, that does make the posts in this board of a lower quality overall.

So if you're suggesting moving everything but the religious and political discussions into the flood, I'm all for it. It would certainly raise the quality of the threads here, but I worry about how popular Serious would become when it only contains those two subjects...

The Flood / Re: Are the mods here too strict?
« on: December 24, 2014, 12:45:43 PM »
We can only communicate as much as possible. An example was allowing everyone to see the "Warned" title  to show that we actually gave out warnings frequently. Of course, then people used it as an accessory and just shitposted to get it.

It became less of a punishment.
To me, that was a big mistake to remove that. Because if you're willing to shitpost just to get it, that just goes to show how much contributional value THAT user has, if that's how they're gonna treat their forum. That's why if they continue, BAN the fucker. Permanently. They're obviously not fit for intelligent discussion/posting.

I mean, I hate to blame Noelle, but that whole trend sort of was her fault, but she was just being vindictive. And just like the sheep that a lot of this community consists of, they followed it.

I don't fucking know. I just don't think it has to be this difficult.
This issue was more or less resolved with the removal of custom options upon a formal warning. Having those go away for a while isn't exactly an accessory like that "watched" state was, but at the same time it didn't impact a user's posting ability unless they were lite-banned.

Moderating is subjective soo....
It probably shouldn't be. You should all have this objective standard for rule-breaking that you all agree on. Leave no room for that subjective bullshit that just gets in the way.
The punishments are the most subjective aspect of moderating. We do try to go by the forum rules as much as possible, but as long as moderation isn't automated, you're always going to have some subjectivity and bias. It's inevitable.

The Flood / Re: If you want a successful thread, don't post in 'Septagon'
« on: December 24, 2014, 02:49:29 AM »
I just did some little calculations with the average amount of responses a thread in each forum gets.

The clear winner is 'News' (due to the extremely limited amount of threads), with an average of 30.44 posts per thread.

Then comes 'The Flood' with an average of 22.33 posts per thread.

Next, comes Serious with a disappointingly low post count per thread of 21.83.

The Gaming board isn't really surprising, given its uninteresting premise. It comes at a whopping total average of 20.58 posts per thread.

And then far, far below all of the others, comes the Septagon board. Septagon has a pitiful post per thread count of 11.94.

Thoughts about this?
The board is for discussion about the forum itself as well as bug reports, so it's not surprising it's a little empty in there.

But I know you're just trying to be cute, so... 8)
