News / Anarchy (3/6/15–3/8/15)
« on: March 05, 2015, 06:02:44 PM »

Anarchy will be starting up in a few hours (at Midnight CST, ending at Midnight on Monday), so I'd like to once again remind you of the stuff that is not allowed:

Quote
1. Illegal stuff.
2. Semi-illegal stuff (loli porn)
3. Releasing personal info about other users
   — This includes anything not publicly available nor posted on Sep7agon
4. Stretching the forum body by creating an obnoxiously-long thread title

Breaking the above rules will get you kicked out of Anarchy. If you do something illegal, I'll also report you to the authorities, so don't be stupid.

There is no nameplate to get into Anarchy this round. If you're a registered member, you are invited. Users who do stupid things and break the Anarchy rules will be blacklisted from Anarchy and be unable to participate.

Thanks. :)

There won't be a nameplate this time; everyone can get into Anarchy at the start. If you do something that warrants expulsion, you'll just get a board blacklist for Anarchy and won't be able to participate anymore.
When is it starting?
Midnight CST.

wasn't it easier to boot people by assigning a nameplate, or did you work around that?
It's still a nameplate, but it's a blacklist instead of a whitelist. The whole thing just makes it easier for everyone (you don't have to apply for the invitation nameplate, and if you do something eject-worthy, you're given the "blacklist" nameplate).

I wonder if we'll ever have the origins of the Xenomorphs explained; maybe that was the point of Prometheus-- it's up to our interpretations. Still, a lot of things don't make sense.
Might just be me, but I thought it was pretty heavily implied that...

Spoiler
Those snake things that infect/kill/change people were the precursors to the face-huggers and were designed by the Engineers as bio-weapons to kill an entire species on a single planet (Earth's coordinates were on that ship IIRC).

Uh, not sure if you are serious...

Nah, I'll sell it once it's done for profit; I just want to see if I can do it and make it look good.
...Why wouldn't I be serious? I've repaired and swapped parts out of iPhones before. I had already ordered the gold midframe, too, so all I'm waiting on is the parts to come in. 8)

« on: March 04, 2015, 04:33:38 PM »
Pretty sure LC tried banning him.

He could, but Cheat could still post, admin hax.
Aye. I had the "lite-banned" under my avatar but it had absolutely no effect on my posting/pming abilities.

And no, I can't report my own posts. I mean...if I really wanted to, I could use some of my alts or, for some reason, change the permissions and code to allow me to report my own posts...

But that's dumb.

You're failing to load the CSS. Try hard refreshing.
You might want to say how to do a hard refresh, until you mentioned it another thread a couple of days ago I thought it was something more complex than just Ctrl+F5.
Oh, yes; sorry.  :-[

News / In response to recent issues raised
« on: March 04, 2015, 01:32:50 AM »

So as you all may have noticed, a few people have raised their issues with how things are here and to be frank a few of their concerns are more than valid. There are no rule changes as of yet; only the responses to those rule breakings are being augmented.

One of the guidelines issued to the mods back in October was overall neglected, which dealt with repeat offenders (http://sep7agon.net/index.php?topic=9003.0). Tough love was necessary back then, and it's looking like it's necessary again now. That being said, to suddenly have everyone on edge fearing a ban for screwing around a bit isn't right either, so to keep things workable, repeat offenders who will be subject to this system will be those who have either:

1. A cumulative total of warning points exceeding 200%
or
2. A total of warning points exceeding 100% in the last 30 days

Users who fit either of these criteria will receive a One Week ban, minimum, for each serious rule violation.

The permaban process, streamlined
If a user decides that they aren't going to stop misbehaving, they are going to get themselves on an extended vacation much sooner than before. The rough plan is as follows:

1 week ban >> 2 week ban >> 1 month >> Perma

Harsher punishments
Serious offences will be being upped in percentage, stuff that might have only got you a 20% will now probably earn you a lite-ban. This is in response to the generally lax moderation style not working as well as it would seem; we won't be suddenly turning into nazis, but it's becoming clear that certain users aren't getting the message.

What to Expect
As of now, you can expect to see a drastic decline in "watched" status and an increase in "lite-banned" as we work toward beating the bad behavior out of you. Hopefully, after a time, we can get the community to behave a bit more and the need for bans will decrease.

The Goal
I don't want to turn this place into a hug box or an echo chamber by banning anyone who happens to disagree with the mod squad (we're already apparently circlejerk central) but I also don't want us to continue to alienate members by being too lax with moderation.

We're not a large site in comparison to B.lind by any means, so we need to find a happy medium between objective rule enforcement and subjective understanding of context. I can't help but feel part of the issue was a few members skirting the rules and being immune to any sort of moderation. I think we need to take a look at those kinds of things as well, but that might be a discussion for another time.

One of the reasons that Bnet fell out of favour was the staff not listening to the userbase, they ignored them and gave non-answers and told people to mute the ones who were harassing them etc. We'd like to avoid this, so this part of the announcement is to promote people airing their grievances. You can do so either in a PM to a moderator or in a thread in Septagon.

The second part is an appeal for people to report things that break the rules more. If you see some users flaming away at each other and shitting up a thread - report them so it gets seen by the mods.

The Flood / Re: How sexist are you? Time to find out!
« on: March 03, 2015, 06:12:54 PM »
I think this test is sexist for assuming all women are the same.

Seriously though, a lot of these questions are wack. How am I supposed to answer some of this shit?

For example

Quote
Women exaggerate problems they have at work.

I'm only given an agree or disagree. There is no correct way to answer this. People are different, some women exaggerate their problems and others don't. The same can be said for men.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Nobody actually means this shit they say.
But can you at least see how we might come across as assholes to newcomers? They'd have no idea calling someone a nigger, jew, faggot, etc. was par for the course and "all in good fun."

Try hard refreshing if this is a legitimate problem. Try blending your face if you're editing the css.

I think imma upgrade to the 6 soon.

Should I get the +?

Might as well get an iPad at that point.
The regular 6 feels just on the line of awkwardly big, IMO.
This. My 6+ is dangerously close to being tablet sized, but it's still not as nice a size as the iPad Mini. If you have or might get a tablet, you'd be better off with the 6 (cheaper and more phone-sized).

You do know that the first-off-the-line iPhone 5 models had a battery issue, right? Apple replaced my old phone's battery with a brand new one for free (even after I was out of warranty), so if that's the phone you have, I'd look into it and see if it's still offered.
How's the battery on the 6?
Don't know. My 6+ battery is incredible; it outlasts my iPad Mini and I can go a smudge over 2 days without charging it with normal use.

It's an incredible phone and the battery life kicks ass (and it lasts longer than the 6, IIRC), but sometimes I regret not buying the smaller 6. The screen is almost too big and it's a bitch to carry on the treadmill, unlike my previous iPhone 5.

So, I suppose it's up to you. I carry my 6+ in my front pocket every day (sitting down and standing) and it hasn't bent at all, so I wouldn't put much stock in those "bend feature" claims unless you wear super skinny jeans and have huge upper leg muscles that would flex and fuck your phone up or something.
