Cheat looks...charming
Oh wow WTF is that supposed to mean?

You're almost there, guys.

Did she say she was going away? Or just disappeared?
She gave me a reason a few months ago, but...she's been gone much too long to consider her part of the active staff right now, and I certainly can't rely on her to assist with site repairs/tunes. So yeah.

IDK if I posted why they're not here yet, so I'll repeat it here.
1. Isara isn't here. She was a huge help with the coding and she's currently MIA. Because of this, I've been behind in all areas of my work on Sep7.
2. The developer for the plugin that I've been modifying is being a little shit and ignoring me after I reported a few bugs (several which are major, like editing privileges not being functional for non-group-owners and QUOTING). I've developed a JavaScript quote system for the plugin, but there are still holes I have to patch up before it's even in the alpha stage.

I'd be able to make a workaround for something like that, yeah; but it's not a feature out of the box. The downside with temporary prefixes like that would be that they would disappear if you edited the OP after using up one of your allotted prefixes.

It's their own choice to expose that information.
Do you even know why all of this shit is happening?
I accidentally exposed my IP in screenshot I took of Fake Foman having a mod skin and now it's the talk of the fucking town!
Everyone is posting their "IP address" just to mock me as usual.
Yes, and that was kind of stupid to do. But all you needed was to PM me and say "hey Cheat, I accidentally forgot to remove my IP in this image" and then I'd edit out the image from people posting it. No need to thrash about like this, mate.

Daily reminder that you people didn't vote for Strict moderation when you had the chance.
if you report the post with 'Spoiler - Reason why (if it's not obvious)' then there are enough mods around to see it within a reasonable timeframe.
If by reasonable you mean 10 minutes - 3 hours then sure. It's totally reasonable.
You know it's not a full time job right? And that almost all of the staff actually have jobs/lives and the like?
I'm just checking because you never know.
Of course. That's why I proposed (earlier in the thread) that there should be more staff members to cover the people at work. That's pretty common sense if you ask me.
Picking monitors is one thing, picking moderators is another.
Entrusting someone with all of the information and tools that a mod gets given isn't something that should be done lightly.
There is a finite number of users on here who would be suitable for the position and most of them are in the roles already. There are a few others that are worth considering but even so, we will never have enough moderators to provide round the clock coverage of every little thing that happens on here, that's just the way of the world.
You're telling me, that out of 1028 total members (most of which aren't active I know) only 5 people are able to handle the enormous duty of moderating an internet forum. 1 of which is barely active anyway! Well you got me beat there Psy. if we can't fix the problem entirely why try to fix it at all?
Considering most of them are dead accounts at this point, if we have an active userpool of around 150 users then that's a bit more of a realistic comparison.
Minus the 10 people already on staff and you are down to 140.
Then take away the shitposters, then discount the people who flamewar incessantly, then the drama vampires and you start to have a much smaller number of people who could do the job. And then an even smaller number of people who could do the job well.
You would whittle that number down to 5? Only 5 people who are competent enough to handle an internet forum? Also if you seriously think 150 people is the user base then I can see why the ban and warning times are so small.
I've said in this thread that I would be open to considering expanding staff, but it won't be this minute and it won't be rushed if it does happen.

Stick to the rules 24/7, 365 days a year.
"The forum staff reserves the right to remove you, and your content, from the forums for any reason, without warning. This was agreed upon registration to the site." - The Rules
I'd like to point out that one of the requests/complaints was "consistent moderation." What is it we're doing here if not that, TBlocks? Yeah, I could ban Goots to kingdom come because what he did was shitty, but that would be the definition of biased, unfair, and inconsistent moderation.

Unrelated to this completely but there is a logo change inbound soon
Who asked for it and why do we need it?
Spoiler I know the answers are "no one" and "we don't", but I'm curious all the same
I am not aware of a logo change besides perhaps a slight color change with the blue.

Not sure what's going on with load times, but it's always been true that having a bunch of YouTube videos on the same page make it load slower.

So if you didn't make this change, the rules wouldn't need to be updated and staff time wouldn't need to be wasted. Alright.
No. This makes it easier to see when a thread is marked NSFW and nothing else. The rules haven't changed and porn still isn't allowed.

I know this is horrible timing and I do intend to talk about this more, but something serious came up and I can really only check in every so often on my tablet until tomorrow.
I'll be going over the thread when I get back.

It isn't the forum drama that drenched the site before you had joined was a problem since it had first formed.
No I am the very cause of that rule. I am also the very cause of penguin party.
Everyone said it's my fault that happened and I take full responsibility for it. If anything it's made things worse, not better.
You're not that important, dude. It was a lot of things plus common sense that lead to that rule being brought into existence.
1665
« on: August 30, 2015, 12:45:43 AM »
That rule exists because of whiners who make a big deal out of people calling them out.
Staff members generally don't care.
That's why.
It's tru that we generally let staff call outs slide; and that's really only because they have the perms to take care of themselves if needed.

« on: August 30, 2015, 12:07:43 AM »
Here is a better question. What's the point of groups when that's out?
Cheat's gonna do some NSA bullshit in there with groups.
Uh, no. I actually already explained that I have to be a member of the group to view topics. I can force my way in, but it's really obvious if I did.

« on: August 30, 2015, 12:03:40 AM »
No, the monitor wouldn't have extra perms Without extra permissions it's seems like a largely redundant solution.
It's a vulnerability because it would allow users to basically delete and edit posts to their heart's content within their own threads, and that doesn't promote open discussion. I would've have said it doesn't matter, because if people don't like it they can make their own thread. But I'll leave that point alone.
However, could it be possible for someone like myself, who has an active interest in updating his thread constantly, to "apply" for mod powers in their own thread? A mod or member of staff could look over my behavior and deem if I'm worthy of such permissions. If it was abused, it could simply be revoked, and I would be punished accordingly.
The goal is to never have this happen again. It was devastating to me, even if most people just shrug it off. I know there are others like me, and I don't want them to experience that.
We're still talking about the punishments and Icy isn't finished drafting up the rules/explanation yet. I just want to add my two cents in here: if the punishment isn't severe enough, it's not going to successfully deter these kind of people from doing it. I know a 2 or 3 month ban might seem ridiculous, but games launch every 2-3 months. Someone could simply do this, get banned, and return just in time to ruin another game.
I would be open to users applying to have deletion and locking perms in their own threads. That's a fair idea, to be sure.

Appointing a general monitor who frequents gaming would be a better choice, and I will be considering expanding the staff in a week or two, after I get a feel on how much adding the two monitors helps out with the workload. Would the new monitor have any special powers in Gaming?
Otherwise it feels like a waste of time. Kupo was pretty active in that thread, it's not like he could've done much.
It's severely vulnerable to abuse, as is. How?
Also, have you decided on the severity of the punishment regarding future spoilers?
No, the monitor wouldn't have extra perms; the ability to delete posts is a strong possibility, though, and is being considered. It's a vulnerability because it would allow users to basically delete and edit posts to their heart's content within their own threads, and that doesn't promote open discussion. We're still talking about the punishments and Icy isn't finished drafting up the rules/explanation yet.

I removed it. There's no need to test the prefixes. You can see them in action in the News board or in Gaming, and it's simple enough to select them from the drop down menu.
You're a fun killer Cheat. You killed the fun.
No, I'm locking the thread now. That killed the fun.

2. It's also possible to enable thread authors to have extended privileges (edit, delete, and lock). This is also something I'll be considering and also testing in future Anarchy events. It's severely vulnerable to abuse, as is.
i already suggested that shit months ago and you declined
REEEEEEEEEE
Because it's prone to abuse. The only power I could reasonably see giving to topic authors is deleting posts, since they can be easily recovered by an admin.

Ok, so after reading through this thread I have a couple points to talk about in regard to moderation tools.
1. Yes, it's possible to appoint board-specific mods/monitors. All forums usually have this feature, but it's extremely limiting when it's put into practice. Appointing a general monitor who frequents gaming would be a better choice, and I will be considering expanding the staff in a week or two, after I get a feel on how much adding the two monitors helps out with the workload.

Prefixes for official, spoiler, and NSFW topics have been added as a function on the forums for all members (except for the official one). To use them, when creating a topic, select the appropriate prefix from the drop down that is above the Subject line.
Note: while the rules haven't been updated, members seen abusing these prefixes and attaching them to topics that they do not apply to will be warned and/or banned. Use them as they were designed, please.

BTW, I'm working on adding prefix-functionality to the forum (for topics that include spoilers as well as topics that are NSFW), so this kind of thing can hopefully be avoided.

Aye. This is probably a good idea to implement for new releases across the board. What would you say a fair period of time would be? 4-6 months?
As for punishments, well, I really do think this would be tough to moderate unless you take intentions into account. Someone who forgets to put spoiler tags around something once shouldn't be punished the same as someone maliciously and deliberately throwing out spoilers. Perhaps +15 to +20 warning points for a first slip up and +50 to +60 (basically 2-day lite-ban) for someone malicious?

Aight. Removed some rude and off-topic posts. Not trying to censor you guys; just make sure to attack the argument and not the people in the thread, k?

Here are the options in regard to this issue:
1. Keep as is.
2. Set quote limit to 1 and remove all nested quotes, eliminating this issue.
Number two was tried for a while, but it was removed in favor of what we have now. I've looked into limiting the nested quotes to 2 or 3, but it looks to be a great deal more trouble than it's worth.

Spider-man should start on Tony's side like in the comics
cuz that was executed pretty well TBH
and then defect to cap's side
and have some character development between him and buck
that way when Rogers dies at the end of CW Spidey and buck will be best buds for future movies
I don't think that would work well until Spidey is established, because him revealing himself was a pretty big thing. Having Spidey immediately known as Peter is kind of lame.
I doubt that's going to come into play. The "secret identity" trope is non-existent in the MCU.
But it's a pretty big plot point in all the Spider-Man comics... But however they do it, I hope they do it well and don't rush the character/plot with Spidey.
