staff is still understaffed

has the staff made a damage control draft to act as a chaff to fend off accusations of a gaffe when someone new will join the staff?

Spoiler
i'm sorry

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
Tbh fam I think threads shouldn't be locked if an OP just asks for it.
I've been fighting against it for months now.

So why are you guys against us honoring an OP's request to lock their threads? Just curious.

A thread's discussion value doesn't end just because the OP wants it to.

I know in a few instances, the staff has chosen not to lock a thread that the OP requested because it was clear that the OP was doing it because he was being proven wrong/disagreed with.

In other cases, like with Roman's thread, it was done because the thread had simply become a place to fling jokes and such, with no clear topic of discussion. It really is a case by case basis.

which is bullshit tbh

you make the thread, you should be able to end it, period

if you want the discussion to continue, you can make another thread

why do people disagree with that basic logic

if you make another thread, the OP doesn't have to have his name attached to a discussion he no longer wants to be a part of anymore

describe to me the problem there, because i don't see it

yeah and he's wrong

that doesn't really address my point either

thread's aren't your property--so what?
nothing is your property

Worst-case scenario, it's just needless threads spamming the mains. And besides:

thread's aren't your property--so what?
nothing is your property
A thread is not OP's property, so it's not their call to lock.

"property" is an illusion

there is no reason the OP shouldn't be able to lock his own threads

with that logic, nobody should even be able to create threads except cheat

otherwise, it's kinda like taking a shit on someone's floor

OPs should be able to lock their own threads--the end

Firstly, no need to spam this thread.

It's just too easily abusable. It's a recipe for disaster, similarly to strict moderation.

I also can't see how OP not being able to lock their own thread would possibly imply that they shouldn't be able to make threads either--they're two completely different things with no relation to each other.

If they're so concerned about the permanence of the Internet, they should reconsider what they put on it. Staff is under no obligation to create an 'I'm losing an argument or said something regrettable so time to lock' hugbox.

You're contradicting yourself trying to argue that there's no such thing as property, yet OP's should be able to treat threads as their own property. You can't have it both ways.

Learn what "spam" is. Double-posting is not and never has been spam.

We voted in strict moderation already. You lost. And magically, the site hasn't endured any sort of "disaster".

Everything is abusable. When shit is abused, you start banning.

That is why we have mods. They ban things. That is what mods are for. They ban things.

how many times do i have to say it

Because if you're making that shitty "property" argument, you shouldn't be able to create a thread on Cheat's property.

If you're allowed making threads on someone else's property, you should be able to lock it.

Not that complicated.

Who said that's what it would create?

And again--if people are gonna abuse it, BAN THEM! Are you that dense?

Except I can--you just don't understand what property means. Apparently.

We assign what is and isn't property. It shouldn't be arbitrary, like you want. It should be based on reason.

There is no logical reason that threads created by users should not be considered your property.

You're wrong.

Threads should be considered your property, for all intents and purposes.

No logical reason for them not to be.

Make another thread if the OP locks it.

If it gets abused, fucking ban the cunt.

Basic, basic, BASIC logic.

If you can't end it, you shouldn't be able to begin it.

What is difficult about this?
Nothing.

ain't nobody got time fo' dat, verby

I really can't think of a reason besides it being abused, because of course it will. I personally don't have the kind of faith in people to expect otherwise. Locking threads isn't a common enough occurrence to bother with a button.

Fix the unnotify button please. I commented on the Fallout 4 megathread once in the first few pages, and now whenever I log in, all I get is a notification for that thread and nothing else in the "More alerts" menu, so I have to look back a couple of pages to see replies to stuff I actually care about. Clicking (UN)NOTIFY hasn't helped.

Ban meme-posters; they're unconstructive and I don't like them!

I also can't see the current method of moderation as particularly strict. Aside from general silliness and personal issues, everything appears laid back and lenient. Perhaps that's due to the relatively light rules or my own newness, but I thought I'd comment.
