There's a strong argument against AdBlock as a form of theft. It definitely hurts content creators and feeds this pervasive idea that we should have free and unlimited access to all media.

fun fact- the non skippable, intrusive, annoying ads are actually the content creator's fault, you get to choose what ad types pop up when you upload a video if you are a partner. the only problem is that only having skippable ads cuts your revenue because the skippable ones pay less.

If ads weren't intrusive and irritating, do you think even half of the people who currently use adblock still would?
Do you think adblock would even exist if adverts weren't the most irritating cancerous way to make money online?

A few simple examples being
-CLICK HERE NOW YOU HAVE WON A FREE VIRUS DOWNLOAD ENJOY GETTING MEATSPIN'D ON YOUR DESKTOP BITCH
-Silent Screamer ads hidden on the page. You are happily browsing/watching away then suddenly a deafening Cilit-Bang advert starts to play and you have to find where on the page it is hidden to mute the fucking thing.

and my personal favourite

'No matter how hard you click the back button, you can't escape the rape train' adverts. You click one of those and you have to kill your browser to get rid of it.

These three alone were the reason why I went and got adblocker. I don't give a shit about a little banner ad that isn't going to whisk me off to some filth/virus/shocksite and is just plugging the latest garbage MMO. What I don't tolerate at all is an advert that tries to control your browser; Autoplay videos, redirects, pop-ups etc can all burn in hell.

Does it hurt youtubers that I like? Yup, and I feel bad for them. Do I sometimes allow ads to play on their videos? Yeah, but that includes about 2 YTers out of 150 odd subscriptions. Does the terrible guilt of cockblocking advertising companies stop me from sleeping at night? Of course it doesn't. An industry built on lying and misrepresenting their products to get people to buy them isn't one I give a flying fuck about.

At least with Adblock I can selectively choose who I do and don't support, as well as it extending further than just youtube (this website being an example

I dont really know how I feel about this. Sure I dont like it when people use Ad Block, and I think people will use that rather then spend money to keep people from getting money...

But I hardly make any real money on YouTube anyway. After a couple month, I have enough for a new game and thats about it.
