Like let's say we discovered definitive proof of alien life, what do you think would happen? What would change?

Describe alien life.

Micro-organisms?

Or full grown specimen

Example: Garrus

Did we just have a message conversation or did their ship find our planet?

That's besides the point. My other question is why did they leave their planet.

A) Their explorers like us
B) They planet died

History has lesson to teach us about 1st encounters.

The less advance race is either in-slaved or exterminated

If they achieved space exploration of galaxy were the less advance species

Simple decision tree

1) Do they have holes in which we can stick our penises?

Yes? Stick penises in the holes

No? Shoot them with guns to make holes.

There'd be excitement for a while, a lot of conspiracies would get fucked up the dick, but it'd eventually peter out and life would return to normal - assuming they can't visit us, that is.

Effective communication with a life form that developed on a completely different planet would be nigh impossible, I'd guess, as well. I don't know what on the fuck they hope to achieve with that Arecibo message.

Seriously? What the fuck do they expect extraterrestrial organisms to make of this shit? The average person on our own planet wouldn't be able to understand this shit, except for the red human figure. But even that would be completely alien to the aliens.

Yeah, but still, there's no knowing that they'd be able to make anything of that, either.

Nobody tries to see these things from the perspective of lifeforms completely unlike anything on this planet.

Oh I'm sure clever aliens would be able to figure it out

I can make out the depiction of the solar system, and I'm pretty sure the blue spirals are supposed to be DNA

The image uses references to objects they can infer aliens would understand (the satellite which it comes from, and the depiction of a solar system). They even use the satellite as a scale to compare the depiction of humans to.

It's been a good 50+ years from my understanding and we haven't picked up anything from beyond the reaches of our solar system. Maybe we're not doing it right, or maybe, just maybe, intelligent life on, or above our level is extremely rare and takes huge lengths of time to develop - just look at how long it took for humans to arise from life here.

It's definitely not common, that's for sure, because we'd be overwhelmed with signals.

That particular message was sent to a star cluster 25,000 light years away, it'll be quite some time before it reaches its destination

Also have to consider how stars far away wouldn't pick up our signals, any stars beyond like 100 light years aren't going to be getting anything from us

I wasn't specifically referring to the Arecibo message.
