amen breaks can't even be used in drum and bass, the amen break's main genre, anymore without it sounding really generic

No doubt. In a sense, learning about the amen break kind of ruined a lot of d&b for me, becuase I didn't realize how pervasive it was. Before learning about it, one of my favorite electronic albums was The Propellerheads - Decksanddrumsandrockandroll. I think all but one track of that album was the same beat.

IE: psybient/down-tempo/goa etc.
