That being said, it's still one of my favorite anime and even the new adaptation with its awful animation is still pretty stellar.

I agree completely. Definitely the best anime available.
You guys should give Abunai Sisters a go. It expands the core conceits of SAO and elevates them to a new sublime level of visual entertainment.
